Version 4 coming late 2020...assuming no disasters derail us.

Great lesson here. I have yet to shoot distance yet but looking forward to practicing these concepts in the future - thank you. Since acquiring a scope, I have been using the drill squares sitting and prone to push myself and find it really gratifying when successful. Last week, as part of my practice routine at the range, I shot from prone at a target of 2 MOA squares I had made using graph paper just to push myself even further. I'm finding it important to push myself as I progress but not too much as it can be pretty demoralizing if the bar is set too high too soon.

An optic, properly setup, is quite beneficial. But as an Instructor I've never seen a fresh attendee with a proper setup. I really like the old Weaver V3 (1-3x) scope. The Leupold VX Freedom 1.5-4x is good, too. Properly setup means good eye alignment with an aggressive "turkey neck cheek weld". Without a properly setup optic, it'd be better to just do irons. Besides poor setup, too many show up with heavy, high magnification rifle scopes. And the weight leaves them physically spent before lunch on the first day. I wish I had started putting little victory marks on my 10/22 for every student, struggling with their own setup, who borrowed my rifle and got the score.

Didn't you draw a 2 moa square in the upper right corner?
@AmbGun3 жыл бұрын
The five squares on the paper target are 1". So 1 moa at 100 yards or 4 moa at 25 yards. Or in reverse, 1 moa is 1/4" at 25, 1/2" at 50, 1" at 100, and 2" at 200 yards.

@@AmbGun @ 07:50 you say we can shoot at this "4 moa" square at 100 yards. It looks like you drew a 2 moa square (2x2). Wouldn't a 4moa be 4x4?

"that means putting all of your shots into this black square (pointing at 1" square) at 25 meters. That is the equivalent of doing 1" at 25 meters is the equivalent of doing 4" at 100 yards. (pointing to the angle drawing at the bottom of the whiteboard)." I gather you've noted that the gap of that angle at the 100 yard point looks to be about 2". Astute observation. Sounds like you understand IMC. That drawing is just a schematic. The angle drawn is way bigger than 4 MOA and given the constraints of the whiteboard, the measurements are not true either otherwise I'd need a huge whiteboard to show 16" at 400 yards. I hope to be doing an updated version of this series all in one video where as a student completes the AQT course of fire, and include real time instruction. I wasn't planning on implementing the Inches, Minutes, and Clicks but maybe I should and perhaps hold up various round targets that represent 4 MOA at distances from 25 out to 500 yards.

@@AmbGun Most can figure MOA when zeroed at 100yd. Where it becomes confusing is zeroed at different distances. (To me anyway) I'll keep an eye out if you post more videos in the future.

I generally like to zero so that my intermediate range apogee is about 5" high. For most rifles and cartridges this means a near zero of about 20-25 yards and a distant zero of 250-320 yards. Here's a couple videos outlining my thinking on Battle Sight Zeros and going over my desired trajectory.
