This video makes me remember a moment I've never lived before. It feels like I'm a child looking at the window and the room smell biscuits and tea. With my grandmother who's reading and drinking near the fireplace while I'm still looking outside on a sunny Sunday afternoon. No worries about any future, no worries about the past, no worries about the world just having the felling of protection and love. (I don't know why I'm thinking of this but I really enjoy this video thanks for making me travel in a moment I've never lived).

It is such a joy to me that this video has helped you feel as if you "remember a moment [you've] never lived before." I know exactly the feeling you describe, a deeply personal yet inexplicable connection, and I am so pleased to learn that other people have felt this as I have felt it. Please know, too, that the protection and love are not just imagined: they are offered from my heart to yours.

Absolutely beautiful! I love these old times ambiances. Sometimes I wish we could go back to the old times.
@ambienceofyesteryear68715 жыл бұрын
I'm so happy that you enjoy them! I completely understand the sentiment of wishing sometimes to return to the past -- I obviously feel connected to past eras quite strongly, which is why I make videos like these -- but of course (as I'm sure you know) the old times were also difficult in their own ways, and marginalized groups of people struggled and were oppressed even more fiercely than in the modern era. Based on my family/personal history, in Edwardian times, I would have been a nearly illiterate tenant farmer's daughter/wife or a servant (an honest but not very glamorous life), and I almost certainly would not have survived to my current age. But I also love many things about the past and would happily sit down to tea in this parlour if I could -- and you'd be most welcome to join me! :)
@parmym.71775 жыл бұрын
@@ambienceofyesteryear6871 Hi. You are absolutely right, each era had/has its own problems. Of course times were harder than our modern era. We have so many machines/computers etc to helps us lead easier lives. I don't really like modern houses either. I feel they don't have much character. That's why I love your videos, because for a while I can imagine I'm in a lovely, cosy room like this particular video. And yes I'd love to meet you for tea in this parlour 😊. Best wishes to you. 😊

@@hannahbg1852 It seems that we disagree in some ways on this topic, Hannah, which is fine. Please be aware, though, that my position on the hardships and flaws of **every** era is not only informed by "books and classes" (the veracity of which I have examined and trust) but also by my own family history and the personal experiences of my ancestors (as told to me directly), and the family histories & ancestral experiences of people I know, which I can assure you were not exaggerated or misrepresented. I am well past the age of formal education (even my professional-degree education ended more than a decade ago), but I agree that a well-rounded perspective does not only come from books and classes; I therefore encourage you to seek out a broad range of information from people/sources of diverse backgrounds (with respect to race, class, religion, age, disability, gender, etc.). I also hope that you will encounter enough good and beauty in the world around you now that you will not feel it is wholly "like hell"; I'm sorry that this has been your experience, and I wish you abundant love and fulfillment as your life unfolds.
@ambienceofyesteryear68715 жыл бұрын
@@hannahbg1852 I'm so sorry to hear that you've been teased and that you feel alienated from your peers; I know that can be very painful. You said that you're fascinated by the Victorian era, so I'm sure you know that, unfortunately, you probably wouldn't have been able to hold onto your childhood at that time, either: Victorian childhoods were often very short, and child labor was commonplace. My great-grandmother and great-grandfather (who were born in the Victorian era) both had to leave school at age eight so they could work and help their families survive. By the time she was your age, my great-grandmother was working full-time as a maid. By the time she was 15, she was married, and she had her first baby a year later, at age 16. I'm grateful that you can still call yourself a "little girl," if that's how you feel. By the way, I wonder if you've read any novels by Victorian authors; I wonder if those are some books you might enjoy. When I was your age, I read my first Charles Dickens novel, The Old Curiosity Shop. The main character is a 13-year-old girl, who appealed to me at the time; I wonder if she might also appeal to you. I can also recommend Oliver Twist, which centers on young people as well, or Little Dorrit, whose title character is a 22-year-old young woman. Watching television or movie adaptations is a very different experience from actually reading the books themselves, as the original Victorian audience would have done. Dickens wrote in a rather verbose style, and his novels are often quite long, but if you don't mind that, perhaps you would like them, since he is arguably the most famous Victorian writer.
@ambienceofyesteryear68715 жыл бұрын
@@hannahbg1852 Yes, I read and enjoyed the Little House on the Prairie books, too, as a child; if you ever want to expand your historical reading further, I do still recommend Dickens. Also, I apologize that I wasn't clear: of course not every child experienced a life like my ancestors' lives, and I do not doubt the experience of your family (which happens to differ from mine), but a primary focus on paid/unpaid labor beginning in childhood (and a much shorter period of formal education than the modern standard) occurred regularly among families around the world who did not belong to the privileged classes. This was particularly true in the early Victorian era, before laws regarding school attendance were enacted; for instance, as you may know, it wasn't until 1880 that England made school attendance mandatory for children, and even then this requirement applied only to children ages five to ten, who were still permitted to work outside of school hours (and indeed, hundreds of thousands of children did work in paid labor outside of school). Also, the philosophical concept of "childhood" as a time of sheltered (perhaps even playful/frivolous) dependence was only just emerging in the 19th century. This type of hardship is still part of life for some children (especially in less wealthy/powerful countries), but it is less common now than it was. I am familiar with research on the Victorian era, too, but since you expressed a distrust of books, I thought I could share my own family experience as part of my hope that you will gather stories from a wide variety of people throughout your life. I also feel the need to clarify that my beloved great-grandmother and great-grandfather were not at all forced to marry; they freely chose to marry at a young age, though of course they had already been de-facto working "adults" for several years. They had extremely difficult but very meaningful and loving lives; it seems that your ancestors were luckier than mine, but I hope they also had beautiful lives. I am glad that we could share our family stories with each other, Hannah, and I hope you will continue to pursue your interest in history widely and deeply.

My nannas farm house had all her mum and dad's and her grandma and grandad stuff still, so even though my nanna was born in the 20s the decor and furnishings were all still this style and she died only 10 years ago in 2014. So this ambience is loads like the every day room in the farmhouse. Even the cloth on the table 🤷♀️ it's like I'm with my nanna again. It's nice. And especially coz it was rural at the farm it sounded the same ie. No cars etc flying by. Just occasionally a chug of a tractor. And cows mooing and chickens outside. 😊 she used to do the table every time. Like this with the jam and everything out. Where it makes it a nicer experience just to eat jam on toast even 😊 I miss her. Thank you for the ambience.

I have no intention of removing it, I promise, and I hope you will continue to visit as often as you'd like. Thank you again.

If I had to move into a studio apartment, this is how I would decorate it. No white walls and Ikea stuff for me!

I love this, and it reminds me a lot of my aunt who passed away, but that haze totally looks like the room is filling with smoke and ruins the ambience.

I can understand why you would miss a place like that, but how lovely that you were able to live in such a charming environment, even if you couldn't remain there. I hope the video brought back happy memories along with the heartache!

I am making a working class teenager working as a maid to make her money after her parents died. This ambiance makes me think of my OC right there tending to the wealthy family during tea time and tending to their demands. Love it!

This is the perfect ambience for writing on my steampunk novella manuscript! Very inspiring 'cause I'm writing on a scene taking place in a parlor my protagonist is invited to (admittedly under weird cirumstances :D ) after hours in the onset-of-winter-cold outside! :D Thank you for this!
@ambienceofyesteryear68715 жыл бұрын
I very warmly welcome both you and your protagonist into my parlour. :) I hope your manuscript is progressing well, and thank you for your lovely comment!

@@ambienceofyesteryear6871 Thanks for the welcome and calling my attention to the british spelling of that word! I didn't know the term before, actually came across it on a documentary about the victorian era. =) I'm actually german and this is my very first original anglophone story besides a few fanfics I tried in english. It grow's in paragraphs but quite fluently. My protagonist's name is Ciarán, if you allow me to introduce. ;)
