I once traveled from St. John, New Brunswick to Calgary, Alberta by train. I was 7 and now I'm 71 and I still remember the magic. This takes me back not many years to a Time of Wonder. Thank you so much with this beautiful reminder.

My father was a conductor for BNSF and stated he and the engineer would trade off seeing who would fall asleep to the sounds. My Dad never fell asleep until just before his retirement. He passed away on August 20th 2024. I miss him and his railroad stories. This made me think of the good times 🥲 love you Pop.

I love this so much-I’m 84 and have such comforting memories of sleeping at my grandmother’s house -she lived close to a railroad-and hearing the train whistle coming from way down the tracks and listening to the clickety clack of those wheels as they grew closer and closer and then moved off in the distance-

This is so peaceful and relaxing for me. My grandma also lived across from the train tracks and I remember sleeping there and hearing the trains go by. She said that in the past if you shared some food with the hobo's they would put a mark on your fence which meant you were a kind person and that the other travelers could get something to eat there. I miss the good old days.

This is awesome. It takes me back when I was a boy of 9 and we emigrated to Canada in 1952 from Scotland, We came in early spring of that year and the snow lay heavy on the land. I agree, wholeheartedly. This train is a mystic wonder with "rhythmic wheels" accompanied by a sound caboose. I'm wondering what the people are thinking about on this scenic adventure through mountainous whitecaps amidst evergreens. Do their thoughts reflect an emotional ebb and flow, as the onlookers peer into the polar glades?

Don't know about the rest of the world but a few years ago "sakte TV" (translates to "Slow TV ") just exploded in Norway. There are so many of them now it's crazy. Many of them hours and hours long. Different train rides (this one f.ex has one for every season), famous boat rides like "hurtigruten" and a few others, a walk through the mountains, even an 8 hour long knitting evening were they start with shearing a sheep and end with knitting a sweater. All in real time, called "minute to minute". For the 10year anniversary for this concept they even filmed a "live" clock with people "constructing" the time with planks for every minute that ticked by for 24hours 🤣

This is amazing. Last year I happened to stay in in a rural farmhouse and trains went by in the night - and coyotes howled allow with it. It occurred to me that I was experiencing something beautiful that will surely be lost to time within 10-20 years - a sound of wonder that enchanted generations, that inspired so much of our culture - especially American music. Thankfully vids like this will keep the experience alive!

Idk if anyone will read this but I’ve had a really rough two years. I have a lot to be grateful for but I find my self more in pain over things that I simply value more than what I already have. Things I can’t control or can’t have for some reason seem to be what’s crippling me. And these things aren’t material possessions that I long for, they are legitimate human needs. Like socializing, romance, connections, things of that sort. I’ve had a bad string of luck in regards to these things and it leaves me feeling more alone and empty than I ever been. If anyone reads this. Please say a prayer for me. Because idk how much more I can give of myself. I’ve done it for so long and there’s nothing left of me. That is all. I love who ever is reading this and I hope you have a phenomenal day. I also hope you achieve and find everything you’re looking for in life.

Who doesn’t love trains? Very cool video. Thanks for the upload. In 1970 I traveled across the US from California to New York by train. The trip took four days. I think most folks don’t know how FLAT much of the country is. When we reached the East Coast and swung north we finally entered rolling hills and trees and I began to feel like I was in familiar territory. Back to the coast of southern New England with the tang of ocean air. There’s no place like home.

This is so beautiful, and brings me so much peace, as this may be my favorite sound.. my dad had friend with a cabin way up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and he let us use it.. there was a valley down below and you could see the little train making its way and hear the soft sound of the clicking tracks, the distant whistle. There’s a train somewhere near my house , and I get to hear it every day and night. It’s a piece of a beautiful memory 💕💕.

Reading all the comments describing people's stories of why they love the sound of a train and memories this sound invokes for them made me think I should share my "love of train sound memory" as well. I was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois, USA. I went to college for one school year in Rome, Italy. I would travel throughout Europe by train using my Eurail Pass that school year. I'm a terrible sleeper. I can't get my body to fall asleep until it's too exhausted to stay awake so I usually can't fall asleep until early morning hours. However, whenever I traveled by train to an overnight destination, the sound of the train and the rocking back and forth made falling asleep a sinch! I LOVED to travel at night for this reason. Well, that's my, "love of train sound memory" story! Sleep well everyone and thank you for the upload OP!

Does the conductor or has the conductor "partied with people on the train" while the train is in motion? If so, was the song, "Do the Locomotion" playing? If not, both are violations of ethical train behavior according to expectations in respect to safety protocols. You are a 55 and I imagine this happened a while back.

i took the train from washington to baltimore recently and honestly… there’s nothing quite like hearing the tracks and the horns and feeling the train rock as you go to sleep. this is wonderful thank you

Do you sleep soundly when the train sounds its horns? Many say that is a loud sound, which would mask the tranquility of wheels upon tracks.

wanna show my appreciation for this video! i suffer with a long term case of severe anxiety and depression and this makes it quite difficult for me to get to sleep on most nights. sounds of trains going past, sorts of engines etc really help me relax and slowly sooth me to sleep. just the sound of trains hitting the tracks every two seconds is beautiful. thankyou!❤️

This might be because you're spiritually battling your inner self and should gravitate towards the light, either by praying and keeping a light on, or by praying and keeping a light on. The train is great, though.

It's 5am and sleep has been eluding me all night due to anxieties. But wow this video puts me in the right place. I remember taking a train south at night as a kid, sleepily wobbling with the train as it glided down the tracks. Backpack full of snacks at my feet and a blanket across me and my younger bro's lap while my parents talked to each other, reminiscing the day. Twenty years later and I am still amazed by how tall trains are, it still feels great stepping into them.

My Nonna and Nonno's farm was right beside a railroad. I remember having her anginetti in the middle of winter while hearing the chugging of trains pass through just at the other end of the pastures. Strange how these sounds can evoke such vivid memories that don't seem too important in the moment.

Same for me, my Grandparents lived close to the train station, but in England. My nanna took me on my first train ride when I was about 3 or 4, I've loved trains and the sound of them ever since.❤

I was born in a country town with the railroads down the middle of town. The station was across the road. The whistle comforted me. I am old now and live in a small town with the railroad going through the middle of town. I feel so peaceful when I hear the whistle blow.

It’s actually my dream to be on a long distance scenic train ride like this. Honestly. And as I’m typing this I’m getting emotional cause this fantasy has been in my heart since I was 8 years old. And this video just brought me back to my childhood where things were stress free and I was comforted by being in a safe home and watching masterpiece-theater with my grandma. And now lol I’m living in my car and I have no one. And damn. Things are soo damn sad right now
