I like the direction toward ambient you took with the Beatstep. I've been grooving with basslines but I will explore the more cosmic applications since I saw this video.

I had watched a ton of videos on modular and thought wow be awesome to make some ambient space music, looked at prices... This seems like a legit way to go. Originally looking at the beatstep just for a drumpad. Packs a punch for sure.

This is fantastic. I got a Streichfett last week and I'm looking at ways to sequence it without using a computer. I'm controlling it with an Analog Keys right now but it doesn't sequence MIDI. A real pity the Beatstep isn't the solution either!

The Streichfett synthesizer gets MIDI notes from the Arturia Beatstep. Audio comes out of the synthesizer, and gets recorded in Ableton Live.
@pmaughmer4 жыл бұрын
Could you load up a VST and use a synth with the beatstep and use the knobs on the beatstep to get a similar result as to what you're doing with the waldorf?
@FadingCanvas4 жыл бұрын
Sure you can, but the software which is running the VST needs MIDI capabilities for this.

3 questions: - Can it trigger " ACCENT" ? - Can it save sequences? - Can it run 2 parrallel / random 1-8 sequences?
@FadingCanvas7 жыл бұрын
No accents, yes you can save sequences, only 1 can run in parallel. The thing is quite limited. Take a look at the Beatstep Pro, Zaquencer, or Social Entropy Engine.

So I got the beat step and have just plugged it in, I get the midi thru other stuff (ie my drum machine or mikrokorg) but am having a difficult time getting the beat step to go on it. How do I begin?
@Littlepeanut9149 жыл бұрын
So ya. Nvm. For lack of better words, I had to break my midi outputs hymen. It was too tight. Had to loosen it up a bit and then give it a good shove.

I have both of these devices and decided to try this, but got absolutely no audio response from the Streichfett. I have the Beatstep's MIDI out connected to the Streichfett's MIDI in. Both are powered (one outlet, other computer) and I have tried the audio out on multiple devices (amp, interfaces, headphones). Any insight?
@FadingCanvas4 жыл бұрын
Aaron Wicklow are they both setup on the same MIDI channels? Check the manuals how to do this.
@CrazyItalian74699 жыл бұрын
what did you use for reverb?
@FadingCanvas9 жыл бұрын
I used the default reverb in Ableton Live. The Streichfett can do it too, but it gives a little noise at low volumes.
@mjkoop5559 жыл бұрын
いいね!
@Littlepeanut9149 жыл бұрын
Yes. This was so what I was looking for. Have you tried sequencing the Waldorf with anything else? I want to use a drum machine but can't spend any money so I'm having to go mad scientist (you can call me mad professor)
@FadingCanvas9 жыл бұрын
I have sequenced it also with Ableton Live. But you should be able to sequence it with any kind of sequencer as long as it generates notes and can output MIDI. Generating chords would be nice, I don't think a drum machine can do that.
@Littlepeanut9149 жыл бұрын
I like this beatstep. I'm sold on the Waldorf lines.... hurry up and wait game begins
@blueworm999 жыл бұрын
Great sound, any effects in Ableton?
@FadingCanvas9 жыл бұрын
Thanks ! The only effect used in Ableton is the reverb, I use it in stead of the one from the Streichfett because it gives some noise on low sound volumes.
@Tallpaaaul8 жыл бұрын
Hi first off amazing! Can you talk me through all the connections in linking the two and to PCs or laptop? I was thinking of buying a Korg sq-1 to sequence my streichfett but beat step looks very capable
@FadingCanvas8 жыл бұрын
+Paul H The SQ1 would to the job too ! I think I had the Beatstep connected to Ableton Live, which routed the MIDI signal to the Streichfett. Line out went to the Motu Ultra Lite, and back to the PC into Ableton.
@Tallpaaaul8 жыл бұрын
+Fading Canvas thanks for getting back to me man! Do you think having beatstep and sq-1 is redundant? I also have monotribe, volcas, streichfett obv and I plan to buy the two dreadbox modules hades and erebus. Guess am trying to say should I buy two beatsteps or sq-1's? I will need two to have two units on the go I suspect can also use my bass station as midi controller I guess
@FadingCanvas8 жыл бұрын
+Paul H The SQ-1 wasn't there yet when I bought the Beatstep. It can only sync from an external source through USB. So I think you'll be beter off with a SQ-1, you'll need a lot of syncing I guess. Alternatives are the Beatstep Pro and a Zaquencer; they can do sequencing of multiple tracks. Always buy one first to see if it's any good, you can buy one extra later.
@Tallpaaaul8 жыл бұрын
+Fading Canvas thanks for all the words mate appreciate it!
@WhoresOfBabylon8 жыл бұрын
+Paul H Beatstep is a very crippled step sequencer although it`s still good as a midi controller. SPend a bit more and get A Beatstep Pro it`s much much more capable
@valentinladin80477 жыл бұрын
Hi, what reverb plug in did you use? Or is in the on board reverb?
@FadingCanvas7 жыл бұрын
I found the stock Ableton reverb sound mucht better, I used that.
@chandlergray38409 жыл бұрын
Would you say this is a good tool if you just use the synths and sounds of the DAW, or do you need a drum machine for it to be worth it?
@bubbanderson9 жыл бұрын
***** It works great generating sequences with your DAW or any other software synths/drums. Plus you can flip it into controller mode and use the knobs to control the software.
@Dehumanization0019 жыл бұрын
Could i hook a Akai Professional MPK MINI into this though usb midi an play it without any pc?
@FadingCanvas9 жыл бұрын
I don't think that will work. You need a keyboard which has a MIDI out connection. Another option might be to use the iPad, but you might need some kind of MIDI interface on that.
@pizzamanmep8 жыл бұрын
+Dehumanization001 You would need something like the Kenton MIDI Host but its almost 200$ so its probably worth getting just another keyboard with MIDI OUT.

Nice demo, does beatstep can chain patterns ?
@FadingCanvas3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for listening! Can't remember about the pattern chaining. I think the Beatstep Pro can do it. I always download the manual to figure out what a piece of equipment can do.
@coolstef47673 жыл бұрын
@@FadingCanvas I also read the manual but not found that. I want to know before buying it because it is the main feature I need ! Thanks for taking time for me.
@FadingCanvas3 жыл бұрын
@@coolstef4767 I can find it in the manual of the Beatstep Pro, page 66. The regular Beatstep can’t do chaining. The Behringer BCR32 MIDI-controller might be interesting too?
