Many thanks for the video! For my part, I had the Norns Shield a few years but ended up selling to get an Organelle M. It is cool, but I kept having issues with Norns: issues upgrading cos I was on older Firmware, patches getting lost, noisy output because mine was early hardware, random audio glitching sometimes despite using a good PSU, and I also ended up frustrated because it's sort of more like a low-powered computer rather than an instrument due to to the lack of buttons and so on? I also never got used to the UI and constantly grabbed the wrong knob (quite a faux pas), but that's my own issue. So I now use an iPad with Organelle, the Organelle as the more instrument like one with keyboard, footswitch and even MIDI, and the iPad doing way more powerful processing duty than a Norns ever could, even able to run full Eventide plugins and so on. Regardless, I think both are good in their own way, if you can actually find them to buy these days!

I like the Organelle with ORAC as a sound source for some of the buffer oriented Norns scripts. Made a little album using this method with the otis script and global tape recorder on the Norns, then loading that audio in to grainchild to "compose' with.

yes! a mixture of both is just amazing. I'm also slowly realising that organelle really excels as a sound source and norns compliments that pretty great with it's mangling capabilities.

where's that album? sounds neat

If Norns was able to chain scripts like Organelle can, that would be a gamechanger. I just got an organelle (I'm a Norns-fan) so still figuring it out

Wholeheartedly agree! However, check out emplaitress and gridkey mod on norns as you can basically throw sounds into any audio mangler script without external source. Also if you know just a bit of lua you can write a command for any synth engine and use it as your voice :) not exactly chaining but still worth a shot

Well, all well and good, if you could buy a Norns (in Europe) ! Unfortunately, the Norns shield (kits) are not available anywhere. At least I can't find anything on the Web. If you have a hint....

hey! yes, try reverb as I've seen some there and I think most are from Europe :)

They often appear on Etsy in the EU I found

For me, the clear difference is mostly the interface choices.. I see them both as 'platforms' for sound artists / musicians & both share extremely similar specs.. I personally prefer the Organelle because more keys & knobs means more potential for complex patches.. Here is my street friendly setup: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5fUgpaqYtiqfrcsi=ji86KY0826FPvCaP

hmmm I slightly disagree on the potential for complex patches. from my own experience I think that because norns has a different interface structure, softcut, SC engines and parameters that are integrated to each and every script there is far more options for a deeper and more integrated patch. The number of knobs dont really play a role here, as I see it. Also by spending some time on each system, in my personal experience I have come by far deeper scripts on the norns side than on the Organelle side. that is not to say that Organelle does not feature deeper scripts (Orchack, Orac etc). in the end it all comes down to how the end user finds enjoyment out of every device.

@@tworoundrobins Afaik there is nothing on norns that deals with 14 channels with independent sequencers, 4 send Fx, insert Fx, master Fx, sampling, looping, synthesis and input processing + access to all that without menu diving.. ?. I would love to see if something like that exist in Norns and how is it dealt with..

you can get both with norns fates,no?
@tworoundrobins2 ай бұрын
I think yes, however there is also quite significant difference in the hardware pf both devices

I started of with an organelle M 3 years ago and recently got a norns. Although in the beginning i head my mind set on using orac on both lately i have been enjoying the base organelle and norns patched. Clock synced Awake or o-o-o on norns into Breno on organelle at low bpm is one that keeps getting wonderfull results. Do you have any recommendations for nice combo's?
@tworoundrobins Жыл бұрын
uuu have to check out that combo. sounds like it could work wonderfully. I usually do them the other way around, having a sound source from organelle and using norns to mangle whatever audio is incoming. I'd really recommend trying out cinematic piano into ndls, organism into glitchlets, or genny into rpls. but anything can be combined really :)

I, personally, would like more hand gestures. Hopefully the explosiveness of them will drown out the noise of some of your more entitled viewers.
