Do you still use your suunto ambit? Have you done a review of the 3?

Question: how would the watch assist you if your tracks aren't visible? Actual white-out, or tracks having been filled with snow. Does it tell you you're off track, and need to turn slightly left or right? And what about knowing there's a mountain hut just across this plain that's in a surprise whiteout, and you're NOT back-tracking? If you'd have a map, know exactly where you are and could plot a course using 2 or 3 different bearings, and it's a surprise white-out so you didn't bring a normal compass. If it does, would you know of any difference between the 'bearing tracking' feature on some models, and the 'bearing lock and direction indication' feature on others? My almost 20-yo Vector just broke down and I'm shopping for a ABC-watch on a tight budget. Looking at Suunto Observer, X-lander, basic Core models.

It's not that practical if snow has obscured the track. In a whiteout you pretty much have to observe your watch the entire time. A better function would be an arrow showing what direction you have to walk or ski to stay on the breadcrumb. Still, beats not having a backup at all and relying on snowpoles or dead reckoning by compass.

nxel2 Thanks 4 the support! If you can afford it get the Ambit 3 Peak. Just came out a few months ago and it's their best watch!

Hello, how long does the battery last in this mode?
@Bushchannel8 жыл бұрын
Realistically you'd get a maximum of about 12 hours, but that is always enough. I've had the Ambit on hundreds of hikes and to this day it's never had a completely flat battery. I keep an eye on the battery meter and just recharge it, it's very easy to charge with a mini power bank. The Ambits are known to have the best battery of any GPS watch, Happy Hiking!!!

why don't change the view to always point upwards?? much easy to view and follow.

Hart TakAda Yes but if you want a better overall idea of your position in relation to a map it's best if North is always at the top :-)

If you so much as twisted your ankle by stepping in a hidden hole or depression under the snow, you'd be in painful shit hits the fan situation.
