If the winch on the dozer works hook it to trees, pull it back to the shop, repair it, and have fun leveling the house. If you go the blow it up route, maybe do a public service video and level the house with a propane leak explosion. Invite the fire department to do training but there will probably be nothing left burning for them to put out. My house had propane, is now all electric and going solar.

I would like to see the dozer fixed or replaced and things to improve your property. Possibly add farm animals and your struggles and what you've learned there. I'm sure you have a long list of things you'd like to improve. Adding more solar? Finding more water (drilling? rain water collection? Dam? Pond?). Maybe thinning the forest for better wood production and improved fire safety, while selling the wood or lumber. Or even milling lumber for another outbuilding.

I want to see no rushed videos. If you don't have the time, just put up a short saying so. Unregular video intervals before rushed videos any day. And keep doing these mixed update videos, you can even include all the footage you didn't think deserved its own video. I promise your viewers are much less picky than you are as long as it's honest updates to what you are up to.

Don't blow up the cabin, You have debris everywhere & as Oliver grows up, its possible he might get cut or or some other injury from sharp metal, nails, etc scattered over the property. Probably a burn pile/bond fire would be more appropriate. If you want to blow up something I should be rock (ie for road or some other properly improvement -> Andrew Camarata). Camarata gets good views on deconstructing old homes using an excavator. I think working on a home for your family would be a better project to start in 2024. The Shopaninium is not going to cut it long term, especially with Oliver. Perhaps 3 or 4 bedroom home. That said I have no idea if you run into the same issues with your driveway with mud/snow/ice. Maybe partner with home builder YT channels for increasing channel subscribers. I recommend either Stick frame or timber frame home, not something made using shipping container. We know you're good at that! but can you do something more traditional? Hope this was useful!

As someone who owns and rents a lot of heavy equipment, anytime you rent or loan equipment, TAKE PHOTOS, detailed photos, before you fire it up the first time and when you send it back. Also clean it well, I got $3,000 cleaning bill from CAT one time becuase my operator was....well I would be afraid to see his house.

@AmbitionStrikes My fault, I should have personally looked at the machine before I sent it back. Operator using the floor as a dip cup and not clearing trash, not cleaning the tracks, etc. Any tracked machine you have you have got to clean the tracks out if they are packed with dirt and mud, ESPECIALLY in the winter. You just eat the undercarriage alive operating it without cleaning the tracks and other proper maintenance. Undercarriage runs north of $30,000. Although with your abilities and the equipment you have you might be able to tackle it yourself and save on labor.

We've raised three kids, and we know they would've loved a train experience like that one. It also brought the kid out of both of us, too. Thank you for sharing your Ups and Downs (even the frustrating/embarrassing ones). We ALL have done stupid/wreckless things, so we KNOW. Don't worry...the real fans of your channel LOVE the three of you...and are thankful for your honesty and realism. You both are incredibly smart and ambitious...and you encourage all of us to do things that are outside our comfort zone, so that we can be adventerous and live life to the fullest. Thank you, for being who you are. Never change THAT aspect of yourselves. You make us better. Keep striving to push yourselves, and live life...whenever Ambition Strikes. Talk to you all, later.

I really appreciate the honesty of this video. From Courtney's, "What did you buy?" that was off camera. Marriage, big projects, etc. aren't always peaches and roses with everyone always on the same page. So many channels make it look like someone is living a life of unattainable bliss. Then there's the smelly attic. I can relate. I put a septic system in for our temporary building the 5th wheel is in while we build our house and didn't install a vent. I keep saying when the weather is better I'll put that in...and then get busy. Every time we empty the tanks there is an "odor", and it's a 30 minute job!!! That reminds me... To the angst of potentially owing $400k. I haven't been that deep but years ago we spent $110k on a piece of land to find out it was likely worthless because of an Osprey nest, then we got a $25k bill from the state for wetland mitigation for something that was already there when we bought the land (both of those problems eventually went away), then we drilled 6 wells before hitting water. Man, that kind of stuff just weighs on you 24/7. It's indescribable. The the honesty of the water condensing unit (I appreciate that you took that video down and why you took it down). And finally the honesty of trying to be a content creator. Rather you feel like it our not, you just gave birth, your sick, etc. you have to get out there and appear upbeat. You have to create projects that people will be interested in and there's always a deadline....at the end of the day it's a full time a job.

The review of the year answered so many of my questions that I wanted to ask you guys on-line. Riley you are not a failure. Your failures become our knowledge. We all learn together and most of all your success curves our failures rate. Thank you to you and Courtney for putting out the videos of your life journey. Oliver will cherish the KZbin channel as he get older and will be able to learn as well. Dozer: What will be the cost expectation to repair vs scrape metal income from sending to the moon in pieces? Yeah, seeing it blow up would be cool but it would take a lot to bring it down. Believe me I served during Desert Storm I watched our great Army battle tanks shoot many of them. Most of the time it's just a lot of fire. Anyway, have fun and thanks again for a great show.

Rewatched the abandoned cabin video to refresh my memory… the site itself is quite awesome due to the views, spoiled by all the trash so cleanup is in order… carry off all the scrap metal first, then sort through all the junk in the cabin to recycle or salvage, dig a hole to burn what can’t be used, assuming that is allowed, then disassemble the “cabin” to salvage the material… once that is stacked and sorted out of the way, get a forestry mulcher head and clear the site and surrounding area to your liking… as much rock as y’all have on that property it would seem you could create a nice base for a foundation using gabion style wire boxes for the guest cabin, bring them up high enough and those 8 foot studs from the cabin could make 10-12 foot ceilings, use 2x6 plates and stagger the studs to get the R-Value up… I’m envisioning a craftsman style look reminiscent of the Timberline lodge near Mt Hood (WPA project if I recall correctly) Not a fan of blowing stuff up, big fan of building stuff up ; )

I agree. I grew up on a farm in NC where the landowners donated their abandoned farmhouses to the local FD for training. Partnering with the forestry service on a control burn will provide training that will be invaluable to them and us the viewers not to mention that a pile of ash is way easier to manage and is better for the environment than the trash that's in that house getting blown all over the place.

I like that you show the fails along with the wins. It's a healthy dose of reality rather then all sunshine and rainbows, so others contemplating the journey can know up front that there are risks involved. And the fact that you are still together after all that's happened, that's your biggest win. Most couples I know would have ended long before this point. As for the dozer, if you're choosing not to fix it. I'd say sell it for parts or give it away, with new owner responsible for removing it. Making sure to get a video of the new owner's recovery process of getting it out of there. Such videos normally do well in views and likes. And added bonuses to this option; no money out of your pocket, no risk of accidental injury or property damage from using explosives, it's other peoples time/labor/expense that removes the dozer for you.

If the dozer can't go to the cabin winch the cabin to the dozer! Wrap the cable around the cabin and see what happens 😁. Maybe before the destruction the yeti could grab the useful stuff and give them away for free to someone in need so everyone will be happy. Explosion may be sooooooooo messy 😂

I could imagine the rental company not wanting the liability, so it would get sold at auction as is and some company would have it repaired and run it since it is so new. I have had to fight in Court over rental equipment. I check any equipment fully and have the rental business record my concerns. We were reassembling a concrete plant back in the 90's and needed two cranes to put aggregate bins 90 feet in the air. As we were setting up for the first lift one of the booms bent with no load on it at all. One of the owners was actually filming the before during and after for this project, Thankfully! But the video was able to prove the the boom had been bent and covered up by the previous renter because was started before the crane was delivered and continued until we discovered the bend. It took almost a year to get the incident cleared up. Glad that y'all were able to get it settled. I do enjoy watching the progress that y'all have my made and show the good and bad. Off grid living is unique to each setup and there's always going to be parts that have to be reconfigured to your specific homestead. However, with that said, I think you need someone to come and do it and not do it yourselves. Maybe you can push the button. Blessings to you both. Love your channel. It is entertaining, full of enthusiasm and optomisim. Anything you two put your minds to, you put great effort into making it work, and things works out fine. Even if you have to come back and tweak it afterwards. And don't be so hard on yourself about the Cat. It could have happened to anyone. Look how much you accomplished with it. Here's a trick I came up with when my kids were very little and I needed to get some loud work done outside and out of range of the baby monitor. Put a walkie-talkie sent to voice activation next to the baby monitor inside and keep the other one with you with an earbud in. It worked beautifully

Nice recap! Also nice wall panels, when did that happen? I don't think we never saw a video of you guys finishing that shop back wall? Also, I know the dozer was a must-have for you guys, to get the road quickly done, because of the accessibility to homestead, because of the home insurance, because it was cheaper than contracting someone else to improve the road, because the winter was coming and you needed the concrete slab, and last but not least, for Riley to have some fun. I also appreciate you guys showing how much hard work building a decent road means and also how Riley has kept also this old piece up and running until now. But for me the most interesting videos has and will always be the ones where you guys are doing DIY & projects TOGETHER, how you complement each other (in life and while doing the projects), the creativity in building with low resources, attention to detail in finishing touches and also saving big buck while doing so. This is why fell in love with the channel.

Just love your channel and most of your projects and all of your honesty!! So here is some honest feedback 1. Stay true to your channel (forget the boat) 2. I watched every single road episode with amazement but I gotta tell ya Mr. Riley...You are hard on every piece of equipment 3. Spend some love on your old ford...it's worth it. Please get rid of that ridiculous electric truck!! even Ford is putting a "pause" on them. Yes I know they are electric but for a real work truck they are terrible. Looking forward to a great year of projects with your guys!!!!

Guys, thank you so much for posting this, I mean generally your videos are chronological and fun to watch, but a little haphazard in terms of storytelling. All these things that you mentioned, which actually happened which you did not let into the videos, you should actually include. They are interesting, create a story and make it more realistic. And do include your disappointments and sad moments, they are as much a part of living as are fun moments. Thanks for the great content! By the way, Oliver is so sweet!

Admittedly I was not super into the train, but it was a blast to see you breathe new life into it and make a memorable Christmas for your family! I tend to like yalls fabrication videos. The camper is what got me into your channel. But your energy in everything else kept me here. I'm sure the rental company has dealt with more intentional damage by less compliant people. And it sounds like they were able to break even. Don't beat yourself up. You guys are awesome!

That train video is cool! 😎 It will be popular again near next Christmas.. About CAT, this is lesson, how to handle rental equipment. When getting it, inspect and take photos. Before starting job at morning, inspect it. Then there will be 100% confidence when something happened and who is guilty.. If something suspicious or looks wrong, call rental office. My suspicion is, that insurance was in charge about decision to scrap the CAT.. But great, that it was insured. Waiting for new projects and lots of great videos in this year too! 👍

💣💣TNT💣💣 Hey Riley, I've rented a lot of equipment as a contractor, haha, but not a huge excavator, equipment breaks! That's why you get the best insurance as possible, I'm stoked you only had to pay the deductible... * Also I have an attorney on retainer. 😂 ** IMHO, the "train ride" would probably get better views if it's set up somewhere on your property, like an Ambition Strikes Santa's workshop...

Loved the train, not only it was fun but the detail how you two did it is motivating. My daughter and wife both have worked for car/truck rental companies and a lesson that was drummed into me was ALWAYS get the top insurance available. Second, ALWAYS take copious amounts of photos of every angle and parts of the vehicle you are hiring. You may never think you need it, but it would have confirmed immediately whether you were accountable for the damage to the CAT. Glad that the claim and the goodwill all worked in your favour. Finally, check with your local council before doing anything to the old hut. Had a similar situation on our land and ended fighting in court as they contested fire breaks, habitat and heritage listings. Needless to say the lawyers won and were able to retire on their earnings from us. We lost total control of our own land which we had owned for over 100 years, devalued our assets and were finally forced to develop the property to housing to regain most of the legal costs incurred.

I watch a number of your 'type' of ytube channels and what I specifically look for with yours is the problem resolution and engineering aspect of analyzing a project, figuring out a solution, then manufacturing the pieces (using CNC and plasma cutter as well as welding skills) and coming up with a workable THING (whatever it is) at the end. Please don't turn into the 'life of....' type channel where all you show is your family time, family growing, etc. While some of that is OK and adds an element of realness, humor, and humanity to your channel (as the viewers do CARE about your lives to an extent), don't lose focus on your title- Be AMBITIOUS and STRIKE when the ideas come or projects present themselves. I personally thought the train video was cute and fun for the time of year it was presented. I was HOPING at the end that you would have a magical winter scene with lights and the train and kids enjoying rides in it. Unfortunately the weather and tech didn't cooperate. Your title could have also been something like 'Building a Real Train for Christmas' or something like that. Still love your channel a high percentage of the time. Nothing against Oliver as he's a happy baby (or so it seems), but no need for ME (as a viewer) to see all his antics as he grows up, etc. I know many of your viewers will love that, I am ok with some of it, but don't turn your channel into that type of channel. Perhaps start another one if that type of content appeals to a large enough of your audience.

Thanks for this! Nice to see the behind the scenes and get caught up. I've been around the channel for a while and Riley's antics have helped build the channel. Now that you're parents a safer strategy might be more prudent and you have! As an ex Cat Sales Manager you certainly have given me more than a few shudders and the cab incident was 'an accident' but when the dust settles it will be coded as 'operator error'. When I was a Cat sales guy I sold a new Cat 992C, worth over $1 Mil, then. The plant supervisor with 35 years experience ran 'different than recommended engine oil' and when the cold winter conditions hit minus 30 for a week a six month old Cat Loadeer blew an engine! Unheard of. WHO is at fault? Being the 'salesman" I had to find peace - "win the argument - lose the client'. How could such a tiny thing - make a massive engine fail? But I demonstrated things with undeniable proof in the clients workshop, with a TV and a vcr set up to view - it became apparent. And we struck a deal to split things equitably... almost $300,000 in repairs (including air freight - machine was back running in 80 hours). But my point is - you might have had a Guardian Angel at your Cat Dealer - who slid some grease under those skids; (quietly trying to help a hardworking, smart, young, couple wiht a KZbin channeel catch a break?? Dunno'. Plausible.). In my experience insurance companies go for the jugular when they feel they have a strong case. But when I was in that role - the Dealership, gets a vote. Sorry for TLDR. You guys are amazing and you deserve all the praise you receive. Sure, some missed steps - but still a great journey - and you're just barely underway. Mad Respect from BC.

Hey neighbors! Thanks for the update on all those items. Two things. One you can use simple binary explosives that you can probably buy at North 40 to blow up the cabin. No licenses required. It’s commonly referred to as “Tannerite“. Think he said you’re interested in building a tower and I’m building one currently that’s over 100 feet tall. Don't feel discouraged, not all videos pull high views right away. Sometimes a video will become a hit 1 year later, maybe for no reason other than the algorithm or because someone on tv/KZbin said a word that prompted a search. Also keep in mind that while you two make videos for us watchers, at the end of the day it's your passion that 100% matters. It was your passion that started this channel, so if you feel strongly about something, just do it. Didn't get many views? so what, did it make you happy? You let us into your private lives, we don't dictate what you do unless you two ask us for suggestions. Have fun, stay safe. P.S. You two inspired my wife and I to take a similar route, we'll be buying land soon and building from scratch. The plans are already drawn up and we're just waiting to find 20+ acres to purchase. I want to see the cabin explode. There is this weird fascination of wanting to see things blow up. Courtney knows what I mean. You've shown us how much she likes fires. LOL! Only issue is cleanup afterwards. Smartest way is drag a bin up and use the excavator and thumb attach and rip it apart and shove it in the bin. Aside from that, I think it would be pretty cool to build some trails through the bush/forest that you can atv through or walk on year round. Really nice semi groomed trails. I heard you mention guest cabin. A really nice guest cabin near by. A gazebo up the hills to get the best view, have a camp fire, tent, picnic with guests etc. Fix the bulldozer. Most real men's dream are drive giant toys and wreck stuff for a reason. Bulldozers are near the top of the list for doing that. Sell it when your done with it. Get some money back and let the next guy wreck stuff. LOL! Always enjoyed your channel. Cheers!

Not having owned a dozer, but having owned equipment for a long time, don't leave it parked in the woods. Bring it up to the compound, winterize it on solid, clean ground, cover it up, take care of it. If something seems broken, it's near the shop, not sunk in the muck.

The Christmas train video was great! We loved it! Even though you guys don't know most of us from Adam, you seem like family to many of us, at least to me and the wife, and we are very proud of all your accomplishments! That excavator incident was unfortunate, but actually the $2,500 extra cost out of pocket was just a road expense in the end. I think it might be time to pass the big dozer on to the next person, and if you need a bigger dozer get one in the D-5 to D-6 range. Much easier to handle, load, get repairs done on, etc. You guys have a lot to be proud of this past year, especially little Oliver, and we are looking forward to many more episodes! And I vote for a small, well contained explosion in the old house. After you clean some of the trash out first, you don't want all the trash spread all over your property! We love you guys!
