Love the Army blower! Maybe put retractable wings on the outside of the blower? might be able to get more snow channeled into the blower. More snow weight might help stuff the blower better rather than just pushing it as you drive

I put in an impeller kit on my snow blower this winter. Basically you bolt hard rubber pieces on the end of the interior impeller which closes the gap between the housing and the blades. Made a huge difference in how far the blower throws snow and keeps the chute clean. I’m sure you could manufacture something for the beast you have.
@billvandorn5332
@billvandorn5332 Жыл бұрын
I've seen a reasonable amount of editions as you have suggested and they all seem to to greatly improve the second stage of the blowers quite well! When I do it I'm going to leave a very small gap between the Rubber and the housing so it's not constantly scraping. Did you do the same or did you go flush to the housing?
@greggv8
@greggv8 Жыл бұрын
@@billvandorn5332 I'd make them to almost touch at the closest point of the housing. I should do that to my snow blower but in a typical winter where I live I might need to use the blower twice. Then at the end of winter I forget all about doing any modifications. I just want to dump StaBil in the tank and run it a last time before putting it away.

@petejansen1534
@petejansen1534 Жыл бұрын
@@billvandorn5332 I left perhaps a 1/16 - 1/8 gap and only because there were bolt heads. With a blower that size, I wouldn't worry about scraping. The rubber will wear and they'll have a tight seal. I've heard of people using conveyor belt material. I bought mine from Amazon, but I don't think they'll have any the size they'll need for that monster. Mine are at least 3/8 " thick. for that unit go for the thickest material you can find.

@@petejansen1534 I've heard of people using mud flaps from tractor trailers. The next time I see one on the road and I can safely pick it up without getting run over, I'm going for it

@thisolesignguy2733
@thisolesignguy2733 Жыл бұрын
your next add-on for the snow blower should be some mudflaps on the sides of the blower to help guide the snow into the blades. An easy add and it will make it throw more snow out the shoot. You could also add dolly wheels instead of feet to it, then you can go as fast as you want :)

You may find that when it's REALLY icy you need to back down the road, spreading sand before (behind) you drive on the ice, so the Army truck doesn't pirouette off the road, flinging sand where it used to be. The tire chains will help, of course. Very expressive snow dance, Riley, and it seems to have worked! There will be those skeptics who will say the snow was coming anyway, but we know better.

A little trick my grandfather taught in Minnesota is put the sun visors down on both sides. Hopefully, u have a strong heater and blower. Those sun visors will trap the heat between the windshield and the sun visors, preventing that area of the windshield and helping prevent the wipers, most of the time, from freezing. It does take a little experience. If u forger to put the visors down, it may be too late. Then u have to get out and scrap the ice off. Just try and remember to put the visors down on ever vehicle u own during freezing rain or snow.

The GAC governors work better if the magnetic pickup is set against the teeth of the flywheel, make a mount tighten it down until it touches the flywheel and then back out 1/2-3/4 turn and lock it down. You can also adjust the actuator arm by moving it on the splines, I use Woodward and GAC controllers on all my diesel generators
@AmbitionStrikes
@AmbitionStrikes Жыл бұрын
Yep! I figured out I wasn't getting a strong enough speed signal and moved the sensor to pick up the flywheel teeth. Worked great after that.
@FreitagsSwag
@FreitagsSwag Жыл бұрын
Also, depending on what model governor you purchased, you can set an idle/full speed engine speed on a switch or one of your buttons that would work well for your use when you get to a deep or heavy wet snow you can hit it and get some more speed out of the blower, also may help to extend the side walls a bit to feed more snow into the augers

@BobHannent
@BobHannent Жыл бұрын
I'm confused at the idea of throwing sand on a gravel road. I'm very familiar with spreading salt, and sand for icy train rails but sand on gravel seems like it'll have limited effect.
@magnificentshine1
@magnificentshine1 Жыл бұрын
@BobHannent they can't get the ice off and out of the road bed. So throwing very small sized gravel onto the slick road will give whoever drives on it traction. If they used salt it would melt then freeze again, plus that gravel spread is probably WAY cheaper per ton then salt.

13:06 How about building a small rolling platform for the blower so that you can move it easily without the help of the skidd steer? I mean, the small rolling ones are already a good start, but how about making one thats made out of metal with larger wheels that you can even use outside? The sand spreader on the back of the army truck surely adds more balance to the truck since it still has to carry the heavy blower at the front. For the problem, that the blower takes up too much gravel: How about adding some wheels, similar like the feet, just wheels that can spin, on the blower that can be adjusted in height so you can set that the blower "floats" about half an inch or so below the ground? It may leaves some snow but at least dont throws your road down the hill.

If you take a galvanized culvert and cut a hole in your pressurized wood at the bottom to run culvert perpendicular to the opening through the bottom of your sand pile. Then use a propane torpedo heater to shoot the heat into the culvert keeping sand pile thawed. You could put a timer on the heater to come on a few hours before you're going to load up.

With the ability to warm the sand pile above freezing, maybe you can eliminate the need to mix in magnesium chloride or salt?

PS- your era LMTV did get tiny amount of rust proofing compared to earlier models... but barrrrrrrely... AKA- your salter will EAT YOUR TRUCK ALIVE. clean it well... shoot underside with some goopy mix of waste oils to coat it and later in summer clean it all off and do a COMPLETE underside and up to at least half of cab/bed height or complete seal with a Polyurethane-ish bed/deck coat such as Duraback or similar to seal out water/oxygen/salt, so it cant rust.

If you can slow down the spinner as those sanders are meant to be in the back of a pickup truck which puts the spinner about a foot off of the ground. Also, a good speed to sand is 25 mph or less. I used to plow for the state I live in, you may need to back down the hill if it gets to icy.

Suggestion: Mag Cl is hydroscopic, the chemical reaction that takes place is heat is given off when moisture is absorbed. Once the chemical reaction is complete and max h2o is absorbed the heat given off will stop and material will freeze. Voice of experience, a 15000 yrd pile of sand I had froze. Alternatively, use about a 3% to 5% salt or carbohydrate product (mollasses), both are less corrosive than Mag Cl. Check it out on the googly machine. Regardless, wash your sand hopper and the end of the season & spray all metal surfaces with lubricant. Love your channel, and as always you two know how to entertain with no drama.
