Triumph TR6: Part 2 - Supporting Systems

In this episode, we install and modify the supporting systems of the 1976 Triumph TR6 in preparation for the new EFI systems and more regular driving. We will be installing a new aluminum radiator, electric fan, remaking the battery leads using more modern battery connectors as well as custom cabling, modifying and installing the new exhaust headers, and installing the freshened up and powder coated intake manifold. The new electrical system to support the existing wiring and starter will use a 500 amp continuous duty relay controlled by the soon-to-be installed ECUMASTER PMU-16.

Pace Setter Monza Exhaust (parts #88-1287 & #70-1085)

Have you installed the fuel injection system yet? What are you using ?

Yes. I installed it but lost most of the video. I'm going to reshoot some to finish the video when I have room in the shop. It should be soon.

Aww man that sucks sorry to hear. What did you use for th injection units?

I used the Patton Machining EFI kit as the base. The cars owner was looking for as complete of an option as possible for parts availability later on. This one used stand GM parts. www.pattonmachine.com/product-category/six-6-cylinder-engine/

Are the carb spacers there to allow for the upgraded headers to clear? 🤔🇬🇧

No, I am just using them for the thermoisolation and durability over the basic ones that tear apart when used once. They were just an easy option for durability and sealing.

What does the 500 amp relay do?

It functions the same as a battery disconnect or emergency shutoff. I use them on all my old cars to stop the battery drains when parked, to make sure they can't keep running after a crash, and make it harder to steal. The benefit of the relay over a shutoff in a street car is that they can be engaged and disengaged remotely easily and don't need to be accessible at exterior or battery.

You can get them online from a lot of places. The better quality ones used a lot of times in race applications are a bit spendy, but I think this one in particular was from Amazon. I had bought it for another car that I hadn't gotten to yet, so I used it on this project instead. When I do the electrical video with the PMU, I will go into detail about the whole system.

Love this … let me know if you want to sell the gas tank that was taken out … I have a 75 that I’m restoring … not sure what that tank looks like yet but would t mind having a backup
