David Pack from Ambrosia wrote this song for his good friend James Ingram. He also wrote it so that the 3 friends (James, Michael and David) could sing it as a trio together. David Pack still jams with Michael McDonald, among other icons. I subscribe to David's channel and he featured this song about 6 months ago on his channel. RIP James Ingram.

Jamel, I have been asking for you to react to this over and over, explaining how these three angels of soul sounded together. I am a 55 year old, white male who loves classic rock, earth wind and fire, Commodores, and the great songs of the 70s, and 80s. This type of music is so special then, now, and forever. If you ever get the chance to look at David Pack's tribute to James Ingram after his passing, it will make your eyes tear up. The video is truly special. With all of the stuff going on in this world at this time, you can see these three enjoying each other's company because of the character of the person, and not the color of their skin. It truly is sad that we will never get the chance to see them together again. Thank you for sharing with your subscribers what I have been enjoying for many of years. This is a beautiful song expressing the emotions that most of us have experienced at least once in our lifetime, so it should bring back memories. Some good, some bad, but nevertheless memories of someone that they have loved so very much, that this song touches their heart in a special way. Stay well, take care, and God bless everyone!

It was originally recorded as by “David Pack with Michael McDonald and James Ingram” in 1985. Pack was the lead singer of Ambrosia. It only hit the AC chart so if you were predominantly listening to Pop radio you probably missed it. I remember hearing it on the piped in music at a store I used to work at. The version Jamel is playing is a re-recorded version which features extra instrumentation by the other three members of Ambrosia, plus new vocals by Pack and McDonald (Ingram’s backing vocals from the original version were used). It was included on Ambrosia’s Anthology CD from 1997. I just found a copy of the 1985 version on a promo 45 and bought it. This is like having 3/4 of Yacht Rock’s Mt. Rushmore on one record! Awesome!
