In a bold move, Lawrence initiates a surprise attack on the Ottoman railway between Damascus and Medina, causing significant damage and disrupting Turkish operations. He continues to launch guerrilla strikes and ambushes, keeping the enemy off balance. Meanwhile, American journalist Jackson Bentley brings Lawrence's daring deeds to the world, making him a household name and a symbol of resistance against the Ottoman Empire.

I saw it in the theatre in the 80s after it had been recolorized. There was even an intermission! First I’ve ever seen that! Between the cinematography, the acting, the story, the score and those piercing blue eyes it was completely overwhelming. I saw a picture on line not long ago of one of those wrecked trains lying in the desert. It’s still there.

@@TheDemonicPenguin I don’t know exactly what they did. I know Spielberg was involved. You’re right it was already color. Enhanced or restored it I guess. It was really great to see it in the theatre with great sound for that score. Absolutely a crime that he didn’t win the Oscar that year.

I saw this in Chicago as a young teen when it was in limited original release. There was a playbill, an overture before the screening, and a real intermission. I was overwhelmed by the experience, and it's remained my favorite picture ever since. Even got the chance to discuss its merits with Roger Ebert once, who was a real fan.

@@ds1868 I worked in Tabuk for three years from 1994-97. Went to see the train lying on its side in the desert. It had 'Krupp, 1918' stamped on the underside. May not have been the same train as depicted here in the movie, but it was one of the trains still out there. Very cool.

That shot at 4:55 is magical. His white robes flowing around him like wings and the sun behind him make him look like an angel. Lawrence has been an outcast and a mockery all his life (an illegitimate child, misfit in British society, possibly gay in a then-homophobic culture, etc.) He must be feeling so much freedom and joy at finally being noticed and appreciated; the Arabs genuinely value him, whereas the British just use him to benefit themselves.

It’s always bothered me that the photographer is stabbing at the shutter release, thereby shaking the camera badly when he takes each picture, making the shots utterly unusable.
