AAAHHH, music to my ears. What A Beauty She Is.. 👍🏼 NEED A Video Ride. I have owned AMC,(American Motors) Vehicles since I was 2 weeks from becoming 18 years old. For over my lifetime I have built well over 277 American Motors, Engines. Along with plenty of others like Ford, Chevy, Dodge, even couple of War Jeeps with couple of military Semi Trucks etc... Also Enhancing and solving the AMC engine Oiling problems with the V8 AMC engines that I built. . Mild lift camshafts, wild Rebuilds .I met many older guys who also taught me so much about one of the coolest Cars I have built and still Drive. I Still Own 3 of them, A 1974 Hornet straight in line 258- 6 all stock rebuilt, A 1970 Ambassador SST with a 390 V8 with 2 extra engines and three Transmissions for her. Another 1970 Rebel Had a 390, 4 speed and an extra 360 V8 with 727 transmission and couple of the M-12, transmissions from a wrecked ones and Parts for sale here and there. Put a 1972 401 from an unfortunate wreck in the Rebel, bought the whole Javelin on the cheap. Then there's the 25 years of Parts I have collected for each one wrapped and boxed for possible Use later. I have drag raced the Rebel she runs 10s not bad for over stock. These American Motors Cars are sweet and the sounds always gets looks. Oh And My Moms old fashioned car is a 1970 SS Chevelle 4 speed. Which I have the pleasant Ownership now, that mom doesn't drive because the Clutch is hard for her. So THESE PEOPLE that Have All Kinds of VINTAGE CARS and TRUCKS no matter the type/make MORE POWER to them.. BTW, that is a Beautiful Javelin with a nice burn out to enhance the smell of the air for reminding us that rear wheel drive IS STILL KING. 😏 👍🏼

I really like AMC Javelins. I'm watched this video because I saw one in the square earlier today. I live in Devon, england. The person who owned it was american. They were never sold in england so I was amazed Specs Power - 350 bhp Top speed - 140 mph 0-60 mph - 6 seconds Weight - 2 tonnes Engine - 5.3L V8 Year made in - 1971 It sounded gorgeous! The man was coming round to lots of peoples houses and showing it to them because the battery was low. Our car, a Mazda 323f, also rare, has massive batteries. The AMC Javelin comes from America, then it lived in Belfast for 9 years.

My first car was a 73 AMX with a 401 4 speed, when I was 16. We had the darkest blacktop in front of our house that summer. On an unrelated note, that car was terribly hard on tires, roughly running through a new rear set of Goodyears every 4000 miles.
@michaeldelio18702 жыл бұрын
I had a 73 in glass black with the pierre Cardin interior, and go pac. It took a beating constantly, and was polished constantly. For 4 years I thought I had a strong 401, but I sold it to my friend who was going to trade the motor for a new 401 crate motor, only to find out my 401 was a 304😥 but it was a rare car to have, even in 1984

Plan to update this scene soon. The car now has OEM rally wheels with the rear wheels cut and widened to10 inches so they are tucked under the rear quarters - looks smooth! The rear springs have been replaced so those rat rod shackles are gone, original SST grill is back on the front along with original valance panel but with a custom molded in AMX front spoiler. Rebuilt the entire front suspension and did some engine fine tuning last year. This car is not driven much unfortunately so I am selling my other "fun" car with hopes of getting this on the road more often!

A neighbor had a AMX when I was a kid. I remember you could hear these cars from inside your house. They had the power to spin the tires. When my neighbor was spinning the tires and laying down the rubber the AMX was making a lot of noise. It pissed off another neighbor who came out of her house and said, "You Showoff." Too bad AMC was closed down when Chrysler bought them out. Now that both the Chrysler and Dodge brands are not doing well they could bring back these cars in a modern day form, and revive AMC at Chrysler.

For those asking about the 401 basic build: 1972 "dogleg" heads and block, forged Federal Mogul pistons, Reed valve springs and Cam (105-TM272H-TM276H-110A3), Ford style roller rockers 1.6, Edelbrock Air Gap intake with 770 Holley Street Avenger carb. Exhaust is headers with custom built stainless steel 3 inch dual into Summit Racing brand high flow mufflers. If you can find Hot Rod magazine volume 51 #6 (June 1998), I built this motor based on a AMC 401 article in that issue. Tuning on this car in the video was dialed in during Fall 2016 and is now tight!
@stinkfinger5 жыл бұрын
Found your video looking for specs on the Reed cam I have in my Jeep 401... the same grind as yours. Similar build too: Air-gap, 1.6 rollers rockers, forged TRWs, 1971 51cc heads, Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. Your car sounds sweet... just like my Jeep!

Exhaust starts with headers then into 3" pipe back to Summit brand Street/Strip racing mufflers then 3 inch up and over axle out the back. The pipe was bent custom by an excellent local shop! Going over the rear axle with that large a pipe was difficult as this Javelin has been equiped with Adco front and rear sway bars. Subframe connectors were also added which makes this car tight! Tranny is a 727 TorqueFlight 3 speed auto with shift kit and custom built torque converter.

What 4bbl are you using? I'm an original owner of a '72 AMX w/401. I have the original motocraft carb hanging in my garage. Replacing with rebuilts wasn't the answer, they were in worse ship than my orig carb. Orig was good but wore out. Some day I'll have an expert rebuild it. Have now an Edelbrock carb and car runs well. The Edelbrock is a replica of the Carter AFB used on many of the best rods in the 60's. AMC had as OEM the AFB on the '68-'70 Jav/AMX. Your car's glossy paint job looks great!

This car has 71 tailights. If I remember correctly, the gear ratio is 3.54 - I will have to go look it up! Gotta post new a new video - I changed the front grill and front lower valance panel back to original SST (non-AMX) over the winter. Also changed the wheels and put in new rear springs to eliminate those ugly shackles! Get yours posted!

@ClemensB1982 This has a stock optional "Twin-Grip" rear end which is not a true "posi" type unit but does work well. I do know these have a clutch type set up in them. I did notice improvement when I changed the fluid out years ago (special additive is required). I believe the Twin-Grip was an option on Javelin/AMX and standard with the AMX "Go-Pack" which is probably what your car is with the 401? Maybe check the numbers on your differential or tag and make sure it is a Twin Grip type.

I had a 1970 Rebal Machine and if I remember correctly it had a limited slip rear end. Bought new price around $3500. I was 18-19 at the time. Didn't realize what I had until it was too late. Would have loved to have worked on the engine in it. Stock had the highest HP AMC ever produced at 340 HP. With the technical experts today no telling just how much it could produce. It had a one year only intake and heads. I'm afraid they're so far out of my affordability today. Guarantee you if you show up at a car show you'll be the only one there. Last time I looked there's only around 500 registered as drivable on the national register. I can only dream about what once was. I'm hoping that in the not to distant future I can find a 70 AMX.
