Well, a guy went ahead and forgot he bought this 1960 AMC Ramber about 5 months ago. It was just delivered and I'm out of room. So I've got to quickly get it running, clean it up, and Jam it in the tree row for later. It appears the car has been sitting for around 8 years based on maintenance records. Any ideas of what to do with this thing? Let me know.

As soon as I saw those door panels I thought " factree", then you said it! But I lost it when that passenger side door opened!!! 😂😂The look on your face. " oh shit".....😂 " nothing to see, just goin ' to bingo" 😂😂😂😂😂 " I'm takin' this to work!" 😂😂 My grandmother had a Rambler. When it was raining, The faster you would go the faster the wipers would go. Always thought that was odd. This was hysterical! I'm going to watch it again!

Talk about memories, wow. My uncle gave my dad a 1959 rambler cross country station wagon that needed a motor rebuild. My brother rebuilt the motor and never got it running. Dad made a deal with my brother in law who worked for a Napa dealer to tow the car to Mississippi from Alabama and rebuild it right. Then my Bro in law could pick either keep his 52 chevy or the 59 rambler. Bro in law kept the 59 wagon because he had a big family, sold the 52 chevy to buy parts for the wagon. Dad ended up with nothing. My brother loved that wagon, fixed it up nice. Drove it for close to 20 years and then bought a 60 model rambler wagon to replace the 59. The old 59 finally ended up wrecked, messed up the front frame area, couldn't be fixed. I remember the push button trans and also it was an enclosed drive line. They don't make them like that anymore. I rode in that car many a mile. I was 13 when he got it, I'm 63 now. Brother in law sure loved hem old rambler cars, his dream was one day to a nash metrorpolh&

Dad would get off work at midnight and come home carry us half asleep to the wagon. Had the push button automatic trans. When that died moved up to the 72-73 Ford wagon with the 351 V8.

They don’t make em like THAT any more. (Thank god)

Reliability was their goal. Styling for the older generations. My grandmother had 2 a square body and one like that one. Always check the oil and add gas as needed. The wipers ran off the cars vaccum. The slower the engine runs the slower the wipers move. Dangerous in a storm. Just to cut the cost of mfg by the cost of an electric wiper motor. I believe they were bought by Jeep. I'm sure the Jeep inline 6 was a rambler motor

She won 1st ,or 2nd place in many car shows.Everyone loved her. She was requested twice to be the brides and grooms wedding car. Nanni was a hit! I had restored that then 30 year old car to like new condition it wasn’t hard to do. Her 232 str8 6 pumped out plenty of juice with nary a complaint. I was a fool. Don’t you be!

Rambler time! Wow, my Grandma had a 1960 white two door wagon with push button automatic transmission. It was located on the upper left of the speedometer. A blue interior and us kids rode in the back. Well built and very reliable. She said it was a good "Mountain Car" because of the ground clearance and handling off road up to her brothers cabin in the Santa Cruz, Ca. mountains. I sure enjoyed watching you drive and the door flying open in the rain. Cool. It's like you were making a movie with a vintage car and will it run type of theme. I remember my Uncle Hap had one of these, he drove it for as long as I could remember. He had a farm and his truck broke down past his fixing, he was also the town mechanic, plumber, engineer, machinist, welder, car repairman electrician and tax collector! So he did what all good mechanics would do, he cut the top off past the front seats, welded the back window in, lots of caulk and it became a farm truck. He used to pick us up to go fishing, drunker than Cooter Brown, I watched this and can still smell that old car. Beer, cigarettes and dirt. Don't think it was ever cleaned! I drove it many times on the farm to pick up "workers" at the gate when Uncle Hap was a little too spirited to drive, did I mention he also was a moonshiner? I was about 8 when he first let me drive it. This is sweet and I'd love to have one just for memories!

Watching your channel has brought back memories of my Dad. He never owned a new car. Always bought junkers and never went to a garage or parts store. He was the ultimate self taught backyard mechanic. If he needed parts we went to the junkyard or manufactured his own. This of course was in the 60s and 70s before you had to plug your car to a computer. He didn't have a timing light or dwell meter. Tune up by ear. Used same technical techniques you employ on you junkers. Didn't have an engine hoist either I once watched him use a tree and a winch to pull an engine from a 63 Falcon.

I had the 1961 Rambler Cross Country Station Wagon. Rebuilt the engine, twice. And every other part. The left front wheel fell off, I tried to rebuild/repair the threaded ball joints but it Ran strong. In 1977 those ball joints were no longer available. The front wheel fell off! I sold it, the old guy that bought it wired that wobbly front end together, actually I had all ready wired it back together. He drove it every day for three decades after that. When I was in high school my dad bought my sister and I an old, old, OLD Nash Rambler to drive back and forth to school. The thing hit 20 miles an hour floored by the time we got to the end of our street, which meant we had to stop for the stop sign. It was harrowing and the most fun we ever had. Things sadly came to an end the week after graduation when we hit a bump and both wheels shot off in different directions and broke the steering jigamacallit. My dad suddenly decided it wasn't safe to drive and scrapped it. Ahhhhhh memories...in the corners of my mind...😳😂 I binge watch this channel. Guy's hysterical.

In my teens I had a 63 Rambler Classic. The wipers ran off of vacuum on the side of the carb. If the engine started running rough I knew the hose came off. The wipers were turned on by a foot switch on the upper left area next to the brake pedal. It had a V8 think a 287? Great car

Pull out (not twist) the wiper knob to activate the wipers. The little pedal up above & to the left of the clutch pedal is the washer fluid pump.

Great video, In my experience , the AMC in line 6cyl engines of the 60's shared a lot of parts with the Chevy engines of the same era. How about, an Offy 3carb intake ,with headers, lump heads and CDI distributor. Your approach is very refreshing. A lot of " car guys" take themselves way to seriously

I happen to have a Rambler. My late dad bought it brand new in August 1962; it's a Rambler Classic 4 door sedan, Custom package which was the medium package in 62. 400 was the top of the lines for the Ramblers on all 3 models: American, Classic & Ambassador. The Ambassador was their V8 model car that year, sharing the body shell with the Classic but with different trim and taillights. In 62, Ramblers came with dual chamber master cylinders. The only other makes that had dual chamber brake master cylinders were Cadillac and Jaguar. A tip to anyone restoring one of these: if you have a manual transmission on a 58-62 Rambler with the 196 six, the engines from an automatic car will not swap with a stick shift. The input shaft on the transmission won't fit the crankshaft of the engine; the engines used 2 different crankshafts during those years. By the way, if you happen to come across 1 of these 60 or earlier models that spent time in California during the 60s and 70s, you might come across some with butchered valve covers because of shops doing PCV Valve retrofits mandated in 1966. Cars sold new in 1961 and later have a factory PCV Valve setup on the engines.

My father had a Rambler Classic (63 I think). 4 door with a small V8. It did go vroom vroom. I used to race it against other family type cars (if my father had known I'd have been walking everywhere). My first muscle car was a SC/Rambler 390 CID 315 hp. Man I really loved that car.

First car in Tacoma WA when we moved from Spokane in 1971, a 1959 Rambler. Mom got hit in that one while she ran an interSEXtion checking up on my Dad while he was popping his side-piece. She got a 1964 500 2dr hdtp 3on the tree and that ended up being my 1st car. My older brother caught me driving it with a pair of? You guessed it, VICE GRIPS, to school an work. I'm 66 years old and in 1960 I remember my dad pulling up in a "new" 59 Rambler wagon (it was one year old). My Mom grabbed me and we jumped in to go show the car to my Grandad. Dad turned the key, and nothing! We were pushed to my granddad's by one of my dad's friends in a '56 olds special.

Hey man! I had a '63 Rambler Classic 550 wagon with the inline 6. That engine had 7 main bearings and ran without a hint of vibration. That Rambler you have is a real gem. Great quality cars and they rode very well. Did you check the ashtray for the ball bearings? They made the ashtray slide without friction. If you were to restore that beautiful car, It wouldn't take much. It would be well worth it as there is a loyal following for that car. I would love that car if I had the garage space. Good luck with it!

Actually, the 7 main bearing sixes (232, then 199, then 258) didn't show up until mid 1964. So your '63 had a smooth 4 main bearing engine, unless one of the newer sixes was transplanted into it.
