കാവേരി ജെറ്റ് എന്ജിന് വേണ്ടി നമ്മുടെ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞർ ഇതുവരെ സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച ടെസ്റ്റുകൾ 4000ത്തോളമാണ്. ഇത്രയധികം പരീക്ഷണങ്ങൾ നടത്തി ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞരുടെ ക്ഷമ പരീക്ഷിച്ച വേറെ ഒരു സംഗതി ഈ ലോകത്തുണ്ടോ എന്നത് തന്നെ സംശയമാണ്. പക്ഷെ നമ്മുടെ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞർക്ക് പിൻവാങ്ങാനാകില്ലായിരുന്നു ആകെ രണ്ടു ഓപ്‌ഷൻ മാത്രമേ അവർക്കുള്ളൂ. ഒന്നുകിൽ എൻജിൻ വിജയകരമാക്കുക, ഇനി അടുത്ത ഓപ്‌ഷൻ നേരത്തെ പറഞ്ഞ "ജെറ്റ് എൻജിൻ വിജയകരമാക്കുക" എന്നത് വീണ്ടും ആവർത്തിച്ചു പറയുക എന്നത് മാത്രം! എന്തുകൊണ്ട് കാവേരി എൻജിൻ തുടർ പരാജയങ്ങളായി എന്ന് പരിശോധിക്കാം.. 1 - അതി സങ്കീർണമായ ജെറ്റ് എൻജിൻ സാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യയുടെ അഭാവം. 2 - എൻജിൻ നിര്മാണത്തിനായാവശ്യമായ ഘടകങ്ങളുടെ അഭാവം. 3 - എൻജിൻ വികസനത്തിനും പരീക്ഷണത്തിനും അനുയോജ്യമായ അടിസ്ഥാന സൗകര്യങ്ങളുടെ അപര്യാപതത. 4 - ഈ സാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യ അറിയാവുന്ന എൻജിനീയർമാരെ ലോകത്തു ലഭ്യമല്ല. 5 - 1989 ൽ അന്നത്തെ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾ കണ്ടുള്ള നിർമാണം കാലം ചെല്ലുംതോറും കാലപ്പഴക്കമേറി. പലരും KALI എന്ന ആയുധത്തിന്റെ അത്രപോലും കാവേരി എന്ജിന് പ്രാധാന്യം നൽകി കാണുന്നില്ല. ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വിഷമമേറിയ, റിവേഴ്‌സ് എൻജിനീയറിങ് സാധ്യമല്ലാത്ത ഒരു സംഗതിയാണ് ജെറ്റ് എൻജിൻ. കാലമിത്രയായിട്ടും വിരലിലെണ്ണാവുന്ന ചില വികസിത രാജ്യങ്ങൾക്കുമാത്രമേ ഈ വിദ്യ കൈവശമുള്ളൂ. ജെറ്റ് എൻജിൻ എന്നത് ഒരു പൊന്മുട്ടയിടുന്ന താറാവാണ്.. ആയിരകണക്കിന് കോടികളാണ് ഇന്ത്യ പോലുള്ള രാജ്യങ്ങൾ ഫൈറ്റർജെറ്റിന് വേണ്ടി ചെലവഴിക്കുന്നത്. അവയുടെ കാലാകാലങ്ങളായുള്ള അറ്റകുറ്റപണികൾക്ക് വേറെയും!! ഈ പണമെല്ലാം പോകുന്നത് മേല്പറഞ്ഞ ഏതെങ്കിലും ഒരു രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ അക്കൗണ്ടിലേക്കാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ എത്ര സുഹൃത് രാജ്യമായാലും അവർ ഈ ജെറ്റ് എൻജിന്റെ കൂട്ടുകൾ മാത്രം പറഞ്ഞുകൊടുക്കില്ല! ഒരു ജെറ്റ് എൻജിൻ ഡെവലപ് ചെയ്യുന്നതിലൂടെ ഇതെല്ലം മറികടക്കാൻ നമുക്കാകും.ലോകത്തിലെ മുൻനിര വ്യാപാരങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ ആയുധ ഇടപാടുകളിലെ ഗ്ളാമർ താരമാണ് യുദ്ധ വിമാനങ്ങൾ. സമീപ ഭാവിയിൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ നിർമിത ജെറ്റ് വിറ്റഴിച്ചു നമുക്ക് നല്ല വരുമാനം നേടാമെന്ന് പ്രത്യാശിക്കാം. 1989 ലാണ് ലൈറ്റ് ഫൈറ്റർ ജെറ്റിനുള്ള എൻജിൻ വികസിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള പദ്ധതി തയ്യാറാക്കുന്നത്. ഇതിന്റെ സാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യയുടെ സങ്കീർണതമൂലം 29 വര്ഷം നീണ്ടൊരു പരാജയ കഥയാണ് യഥാര്തത്തിൽ നമ്മുടെ ജെറ്റ് എഞ്ചിന് പറായാനുള്ളത്. ഏകദേശം 2100 കോടി 1989നു ശേഷമുള്ള കണക്കനുസരിച്ചും ഹാൽ മാരുത് നിലത്തിറക്കിയ ശേഷമുള്ള കണക്കനുസരിച്ചു 40 ബില്യനുമാണ് ഇതിനു വേണ്ടി ചിലവിട്ട പണം. HAL തേജസ് വിമാനം കാവേരി ജെറ്റ് എൻജിൻ പറന്നുയർത്തുന്നതാണ് നമ്മൾ ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ടതെങ്കിലും പരീക്ഷണ പരാജയംമൂലം ജെറ്റ് എൻജിൻ HAL പ്രോജെക്ടിൽനിന്ന് വേർപ്പെടുത്തേണ്ടി വന്നു. ജെറ്റ് വിമാന ഉല്പാദന രംഗത്തെ പരിപൂര്ണത കൈവരിക്കണമെങ്കിൽ അതിന്റെ ഹൃദയമായ എന്ജിനുകൂടി ഉത്പാദിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ചൈനക്ക് ചെറുതെങ്കിലും സ്വന്തമായൊരു എൻജിൻ സ്വായത്തമായതു ഈയിടെയാണ്. പാക്കിസ്ഥാനാണെങ്കിൽ അറക്കൽ ബീവിയെ കെട്ടാൻ അരസമ്മതം മൂളിയാൽ ഒരു മൂളൽ അങ്ങ് പോയിക്കിട്ടും എന്ന ധാരണയിൽ ഈ പണിക്കു നിന്നിട്ടേ ഇല്ല. പരിപൂർണമായും ഉപേക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടാവുന്നിടത്തുനിന്നുമാണ് റാഫേൽ ഡീലിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ഫ്രഞ്ച് കമ്പനി സാഫ്രോൺ നമ്മളെ സാഹായിക്കാനെത്തുന്നത്. അവസാനം 30 വർഷത്തെ കാത്തിരിപ്പിനൊടുവിൽ 2018 ഒക്ടോബറിൽ (മാസം കൃത്യമാണോ എന്നറിയില്ല) എൻജിൻ വിജയകരമായി പരീക്ഷിച്ചു!

@@Chanakyan നന്ദി.. ജെറ്റ് എൻജിൻ വിജയകരമായി പരീക്ഷിച്ചതിനു ശേഷം മറ്റു അപ്‌ഡേറ്സ് ലഭ്യമായിട്ടില്ല. നിലവിലെ മിഗ് 29 ലും തേജസ് മാർക്ക് -2 വിലും ഉപയോഗിക്കാനാകുമെന്നു പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നു. പക്ഷെ ഇതുവരെ അപ്‌ഡേറ്സ് ലഭ്യമായിട്ടില്ല എൻജിന്റെ thrust പരിമിതമാണോ എന്നും അറിയില്ല. അതിനെ സംബന്ധിച്ച അന്വേഷണത്തിലാണ്.

Comparing rocket engine and jet engine is like comparing അലുവ and മത്തിക്കറി. Rocket engine :- 1) Ignites the mixture of stored fuel and releases the exhaust gases through the engine exhaust. ( The most simplified explanation) 2) Only one time use. Jet Engine :- 1) Engine sucks in air from outside and mixes a part of that air with aviation fuel and ignites the mixture.( Some percentage of air is not ignited - called bypass air) 2) The compressor compresses this air, air-fuel mixture gas at different levels to extreme high pressure and temperature 3) This compressed mixture is sprayed (at high velocity, pressure and temperature) onto the turbine BLADES. Here the blades rotate and in turn rotates the shaft. This shaft in turn rotates the original fan blades. The gas mixture is shooted out through the exhaust. 4) ഈ ബ്ലേഡ് ആണ് ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ചാല്ലെന്ജ്. ഇത്രയും അതിഭയങ്കരമായ pressure, temperature, centrifugal force(due to high speed rotation of shaft) എല്ലാം താങ്ങാൻ പറ്റുന്ന മെറ്റൽ കൊണ്ടുവേണം turbine blades ഉണ്ടാക്കാൻ. Unlike rocket engines that is for one time use, the jet engines must operate for hours everyday, 365 days a year for 20 years atleast. 5) Worldwide, this blade is built of a "super alloy" made up of 50% of mass by Tungsten, Titanium, Zirconium, Tantallum, Chromium, Cobalt, Rhenium and the remaining 50% of mass by combining NICKEL with 'XXXX'-a group of highly classified metal-mixtures. 6) Rolls Royce, General Electric, Pratt and Whitney, Safran ,BAE Systems പോലെയുള്ള കമ്പനികൾക്ക് അതീവ രഹസ്യമായി സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്ന സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യ ആണ് ഇവ. 7) ഈ സൂപ്പർ അലോയ് വികസിപ്പിച്ചെടുക്കുകയാണ് ഇന്ത്യക്ക് മുന്നിലുള്ള വെല്ലുവിളി.

ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ശാസ്ത്ര സാങ്കേതിക മേഖലകളിൽ ചില വൻ പദ്ധതികൾ പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കപ്പെട്ട 80-കളുടെ മധ്യത്തിലോ, അവസാനത്തിലോ ആണ് ലഘു യുദ്ധവിമാനത്തിന്റെ വികസനത്തിനൊപ്പം സമാന്തരമായി തദ്ദേശീയമായ രീതിയിൽ തന്നെ ആ വിമാനത്തിൽ ഘടിപ്പിക്കാൻ അനുയോജ്യമായ ഒരു വിമാന എൻജിൻ നിർമിക്കുന്നതിന്റ ആവശ്യകതയെ കുറിച്ച് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ സൈനികഗവേഷണ നേതൃത്വങ്ങളും, രാഷ്ട്രീയ നേതൃത്വങ്ങളും ഗൗരവമായി ചിന്തിച്ചു തുടങ്ങുന്നത്, 60-കളിൽ വിഖ്യാതനായ ജർമ്മൻ എയ്റോസ്പേസ് വിദഗ്ധൻ ശ്രീമാൻ "കുർദ് ടാങ്ക് "ന്റെ മേൽ നോട്ടത്തിൽ HAL നിർമിച്ചു പുറത്തിറക്കിയ ജർമ്മൻ "gnat"വിമാനത്തിന്റെ ഇന്ത്യൻ പതിപ്പായ HAL "മാരുത്" സേവനത്തിൽ നിന്നും വിരമിച്ചതിനു ശേഷം തദ്ദേശീയമായ ഒരു വിമാനം എന്നത് ഇന്ത്യൻ എയ്റോസ്പേസ് ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞരുടെയും വിശിഷ്യാ ഭാരതീയ വായുസേനയുടെയും അദ മ്യമായ ഒരാഗ്രഹമായിരുന്നു അങ്ങനെ DRDO യുടെ ഉപസ്ഥാപനമായ എയ്റോനോട്ടിക്കൽ ഡെവലെപ്മെന്റ് ഏജൻസിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ, ലഘുയുദ്ധവിമാന പദ്ധതിയും, അതോടൊപ്പം തദ്ദേശീയമായ വിമാനഎൻജിൻ നിർമാണ വികസനവും ആരംഭിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. പിന്നീടാണ് ഈ രണ്ടു പദ്ധതികളുടെയും ഭാവിതന്നെ അനിശ്ചിതത്തിൽ ആയി പോയേക്കാവുന്ന തരത്തിലുള്ള പലപല തടസ്സങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടായത്. ഇന്ത്യയെ പോലുള്ള ഒരു വികസ്വര രാഷ്ട്രത്തിനു അതിന്റെ ശാസ്ത്രസാങ്കേതിക വികസനപദ്ധതികൾക്ക് കൊടുക്കേണ്ടതായിട്ടുള്ള സാമ്പത്തിക പിന്തുണയുടെ അഭാവം, ഈ രംഗത്തു പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന വിദഗ്ധരുടെ കുറവ്.വിമാനഎൻജിൻ നിർമാണത്തിനാവശ്യമായ അതിസങ്കീർണമായ വസ്തുക്കളുടെയും അനുബന്ധ ഉപകരണങ്ങളുടെയും ഗവേഷണങ്ങളുടെയും വികസനത്തിനു വേണ്ടുന്ന മികച്ച അടിസ്ഥാനസൗകര്യമില്ലായ്മ, പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ ഉപരോധം തുടങ്ങിയവ ഈ പദ്ധതികളെ പലവർഷങ്ങൾ പിന്നോട്ടടിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് 2000-ത്തിൽ ആണ് LCA പദ്ധതി പൂർണമായും പരീക്ഷണ പറക്കൽ നടത്തിയത്. ഇന്ന് സമ്പൂർണആയുധ സജ്ജീകരണത്തോടും കൂടെ "തേജസ്‌" എന്ന ഇന്ത്യയുടെ സ്വന്തം വിമാനം ഭാരതീയ വായു സേനയുടെ ഭാഗമായിരിക്കുന്നു. പക്ഷെ അതിലുപയോഗിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി ഇന്ത്യയുടെ സൈനിക ഗവേഷകർ വിഭാവനം ചെയ്ത "കാവേരി"എന്നു പേരിട്ട എൻജിൻ ഇന്നും പ്രവർത്തന സജ്ജമായിട്ടില്ല. അമേരിക്കൻ ജനറൽ ഇലക്ട്രിക് കമ്പനിയുടെ എൻജിനുകൾ ആണ് ഇന്ന് തേജസ്‌ വിമാനങ്ങൾക്ക് ഊർജ്ജം പകരുന്നത്. വിമാനഎഞ്ചിൻ നിർമാണമെന്നത് അതിസങ്കീർണമായ ഒരു നിർമിതി ആയതിനാൽ, വിമാനഎഞ്ചിൻ നിർമാണത്തിൽ സ്വയംപര്യാപ്തത കൈവരിച്ച രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളെ സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യാ വികസനത്തിലെ നെടും തൂണുകൾ എന്നു വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.സാങ്കേതികവികസനത്തിൽ വൻമുന്നേറ്റം നടത്തുന്ന ചൈനപോലുള്ള രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങൾ പോലും എൻജിൻ നിർമാണത്തിൽ കാര്യമായ പുരോഗതി ഉണ്ടാക്കിയത് ഈ അടുത്ത കാലത്താണ്. നമ്മുടെ കാവേരി എൻജിന്റെ ഒരു പരീക്ഷണം കഴിഞ്ഞ വർഷം റഷ്യയിൽ നടന്നുവെന്ന് മാധ്യമങ്ങളിൽ വാർത്തകൾ വന്നിരുന്നു സമീപഭാവിയിൽ തന്നെ കാവേരി എൻജിൻ പൂർണസജ്ജമായി നമ്മുടെ വിമാനങ്ങളിൽ ലഭ്യമാകുമെന്നു നമ്മൾക്ക് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കാം, ഒരു ഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കപെട്ടു വെന്ന് കരുതിയ ഈ വൻ പദ്ധതിക്കു വീണ്ടും ജീവൻ വെച്ചു വെന്നാണ് അറിയുന്നത്, അതിന്റെ സൂചനകൾ എന്നോണം ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ആദ്യ UCAV ആയ "AURA"വിമാനത്തിന് കാവേരി എൻജിൻ ആയിരിക്കും ഉപയോഗിക്കുക എന്നു പ്രഖ്യാപനങ്ങൾ വന്നുകഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. AMCA എന്ന 5th ജനറേഷൻ വിമാനനിർമാണം അതിന്റെ ഡിസൈൻ സ്റ്റേജ് കഴിഞ്ഞെങ്കിലും നിർമാണഘട്ടത്തിലേക്ക് കടക്കാൻ ഇനിയും കാലതാമസങ്ങൾ നേരിടാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്. ആവശ്യമായ സ്ക്വാഡ്രൺ സ്ട്രെങ്ത് ഇല്ലാതെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുന്ന ഭാരതീയ വായുസേന ആ കുറവ് കൂടുതലായി തേജസ്‌ വിമാനങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തി പരിഹരിക്കേ ണ്ടതാണ്.ഇന്ത്യയുടെ എയ്റോസ്പേസ് ഗവേഷണം എന്നത് ADA എന്ന ഏജൻസിയിൽ നിന്നും മാറ്റി അതിനെ ISRO യുടെ ചുമതലയിൽ ആക്കുകയോ, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ISRO യെപോലെ തന്നെ യുള്ള ഒരു നാഷണൽ എയ്റോസ്പേസ് കമ്മിഷൻ രൂപികരിച്ചു അതിന് കീഴിൽ ആക്കുകയോ ചെയ്താൽ രാഷ്ട്രത്തിനു അഭിമാനിക്കാവുന്ന നിരവധി നേട്ടങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു മാത്രമല്ല രാഷ്ട്രത്തിനു മികച്ച രീതിയിൽ വിദേശനാണ്യം നേടിത്തരാനും സഹായകരമായിരിക്കും. എന്നിരുന്നാലും പല പ്രതിബന്ധങ്ങളേയും തരണം ചെയ്തു നമ്മുടെ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞർ ഇന്ത്യൻ എയ്റോസ്പേസ് മേഖലയിൽ പല മഹത്തായ കണ്ടു പിടുത്തങ്ങളും നടത്തികഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു . ഒരു ആഗോളശക്തിയായുള്ള നമ്മുടെ രാഷ്ട്രത്തിന്റെ പരിവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്കു ഈ മഹത്തായ കണ്ടു പിടുത്തങ്ങൾ വലിയൊരു ഊർജം പകരുന്നതായിരിക്കട്ടെ. ജയ് ഹിന്ദ്.

There is a major design drawback in Kaveri engine. The transmission is mainly through splined shafts instead of Curvics. that limits the turbine to compressor coupling efficiencies and eventually results in poor thrust to load characteristics. Secondly I am not sure they are using high heat resistant material like Waspalloy, Haynes or Hastealloys in the combustion chamber and HPT area. Which in turn limits T3 and overall engine performance.

I don't think hal will be able to develop such a jet . Even after transfer of technology hal is Struggling to produce the same products with the required quality in India.Tejas the indigenous jet has an American engine,isreali radar,fly by wire technology from France , composite materials from Japan,ejection seats from lockard Martin with all this they are still unable to get 'foc'for the Tejas aircraft which got its' ioc' in 2011. Tejas mk1 is already an obsolete and rejected aircraft by Indian air force.And there are other examples of the poor performance of hal like the delay and overcosting of the sukoi it's better to privatise this company

Hi Spyker, though it might sound difficult to achieve the results that we hoped we could achieve it's strategically important to have a great indigenous jet. As you said, privatisation can be an option. However, this could be more of a problem of funding and political will. If India could develop an atom bomb on its own with the right funding, aircraft shouldn't be impossible either. Meanwhile, it's important to celebrate what we have though it may not be the best.
