Field of view on the Amcrest is wider, not narrower. Colors are far better, less washed out, and less glare. Easy choice for me. Thanks for the video!

In the night comparison, there is clearly another, off-camera, light source in the Yi sample, as evidenced by the harsh shadows.Also, in general, the Yi appears to have significantly lower effective resolution, probably due to digital de-noising. You get this same "plasticky" effect if you overdo noise reduction in image processing software. I'd rather preserve the full resolution and detail at the cost of some additional noise.
@LifeHackster6 жыл бұрын
The only thing I can think of is that the Amcrest's IR LEDs were probably on and also should be the same on the sample footage of the Amcrest...Both cameras are good but the Amcrest is just too bulky and settings are not as user friendly as the Yi...I've done this video 10 months ago and I have never tested Amcrest after this..but I have a handful more of the Yi cameras...I might need to revisit Amcrest one of these days...

I read their statement again and even though I was incorrect about accessing your contact list I still have a problem understanding why a security camera app is used to provide the manufacturer with some much information. If they are all like this then I guess a non camera connected system is more to my liking.

Yes. To prevent privacy issues just get a PoE camera (just have installation to do) and just don't connect it to the internet. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGKTYZeulKuJnrc

I'd like to manage the cameras from ivideon software. So I need IP camera functionality. What camera should I get. I bought two of the YI 720p gen 1 cameras and they are great, but they are very limited in functionality. Knowing this, should I get more YI cameras or go with something else? Suggestions?
@LifeHackster6 жыл бұрын
If you want to use a third party software, then Yi is not the camera. They have proprietary software. I think with Amcrest you can do it because it is ONVIF compatible but I haven't tested or checked it...

Amcrest works with everything, has direct IP functionality

How would you compare them with Reolink? And any of these 3 got WDR? wide dynamic range like in xiaomi? And IR cut like in Escam?
@LifeHackster5 жыл бұрын
The C1 Pro and C2 Pro of the Reolink has better video quality. This is the last time I have reviewed the Amcrest so I don't know how their 4 or 5 MP dome cams compare. As far as I know they don't have WDR.

Just curious, but can the Yi Camera see down more? My Amcrest doesn't seem to be able to tilt downward as much and it is on the top of a bookshelf. Also, hope you are faring well after Hurricane Harvey.
@LifeHackster7 жыл бұрын
The Yi dome camera is limited on that too that is why I decided to install it upside down in the ceiling. Just try positioning it in the lower shelf. We dodged the bullet as to Hurricane Harvey...no major damage at the house. It is a very damaging hurricane....Thanks for asking.

I have the YI camera too and it's amazing! I currently also own a D-link but it's only 720p, speakers are not build in and the camera lag big time over the app! Night vision also isn't as good and price when i bought it was much higher and thought it has since dropped it's still a pretty much inferior product to the YI camera. The 2 things i wish the YI camera would have would be a RTSP support and auto send alert to email.
@LifeHackster7 жыл бұрын
I like the Yi camera because it is simple to set up and simple to use. At this time, there is no email alerts but its notification via the app is pretty much real time. You can download their PC app/program: yitechnology.com/yi-1080p-dome-download and you will be able to view your cameras on your PC.
@humanshieldz7 жыл бұрын
Oh not email alert sorry i mean the alert 6s footage to the email. D-link has that. I feel that it's a good thing to have cos the footage on the app disappear after few days. The PC app doesn't work for me yet cos i'm not in US. I'll compile some requests and email it to them. I'm using their YI 4K action camera too and i'm loving it. Post sale support has been excellent for me so if they keep this up or make it even better, they'll go very far.
@LifeHackster7 жыл бұрын
Oh I got you on the email thing. Yeah, I was looking at their action camera too...and the only issue I have why I haven't bought it because it has no LCD screen... :(

Can either of those cameras initiate an audio conversation from the house? Meaning, if i am away, can my family initiate a conversation with me from the house/camera or only the other way around?
@LifeHackster6 жыл бұрын
No on both. The camera that I have tested that has this feature was the Yi Home 2 which they haven't been selling lately.

Yes, you can do it with the Amcrest.
@ruizironworks76126 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, I just reread your question and you being away from the house would have to initiate the conversation by turning on the microphone so your family can hear you and turn on the speaker so you can hear your family.

Ed Schmitt look for an APP called tinycam pro, you will need to purchase it on amazon market. it will allowed you to view your Amcrest cameras. The app is based on IP cameras and will support amcrest. There's videos on KZbin how to. I hope that helps bud.

I sent yi dome and foscam r2 back. Amcrest shows the best. When I left my house yi dome and r2 kept disconnecting. When I use amcrest I am able to watch my cams all the time. That's the reason I wanted them so I could watch them while I'm away.
@LifeHackster7 жыл бұрын
Good that the Amcrest worked for you. I haven't had any problems with my Yi dome yet...
@AFiB19996 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike, do you still have this issue? I have the Amcrest and Im going for the YI. I just want to make sure works great. I dont like Amcrest due the software issues. I had so many issues with them in the past. Other than that. Amcrest is good if you pair with a good software such as Blue Iris. One of my gripes with Amcrest is not able to see in the browser anymore. Also, account lock. One of the big issues for Amcrest, The CSR are not helpfull and rude if you get a hold of them. So Im dumping them and selling all my 16 cameras :(

Your comparison videos only showed video with no motion. Yi records at less than 1000kbps while Amcrest records at over 4000kbps. That makes a huge difference in quality of video which you can't see unless something is actually moving in the video.
@LifeHackster7 жыл бұрын
Not really...I don't see any major difference..checkout the amcrest - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hH6ZooGip8eJetEm53s and the yi 1080p - kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGG5ZJudeZ6ZoLsm48s
@SKG-eu6jq7 жыл бұрын
Again, those links show video with no motion. Amcrest can actually go up to 8192kbps. With 8 times the data rate, there's no question the video will be of drastically higher quality, it's not a matter of opinion. 8Mbps is considered the minimum for a clear 1080p video (you can Google this). 1 Mbps won't even come close to cutting it. I actually have both cameras and the Amcrest blows away the Yi. . If you're not seeing this., you might have the bit rate set low on the Amcrest (the Yi doesn't let you select the bit rate).

how many versions (Chinese only?)? what about the APP? multilanguage? can it be used in Europe?

My Yi cameras are all US versions...even the app is in English and pretty intuitive. I'm pretty sure it can be used in Europe using their adapters etc. and as long as there is Wi-fi.

I had it for a day and it worked great, but then I read their privacy statement and sent it back. Did you read it, I found it to be invasive and scary. Let me know your thoughts after you read it. Mark M
@LifeHackster7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've read it...that is actually good that they disclose everything that they are doing and it is all about marketing. We need to read google, facebook's too because they basically do the same thing. Search something in google, ebay, amazon and every ad you see in Facebook will be about what you searched. I've been using the cameras for more than a year now and I haven't noticed anything yet and I will definitely be the first one to make a video and let you all know if there is something "fishy" that I can link to Yi's business practices.
@markmorrison32297 жыл бұрын
So are you convinced that they can't access your contact list on your phone, that is my big concern. thanks
@LifeHackster7 жыл бұрын
They shouldn't be...I haven't seen any marketing info from them from any of my family's phone which are on my contact list...
@markmorrison32297 жыл бұрын
But what about accessing your contacts, isn’t that something they say they will do and you don’t find that scary. I have more than just names in ny contact information and wouldn’t want anyone or any app to have access to that information. If that’s not correct please tell me I’m wrong because I really lived the camera.
@LifeHackster7 жыл бұрын
Can you send me a link on where they stated that. I looked at the one that a user posted in the Amazon reviews and it is basically the same privacy policy on any other camera or apps which is mostly they use for marketing purposes.
