He's the best mechanic in this area. If you ever need help, be sure to stop by his shop! Getting ahead of the "IT'S NOT MEANT FOR THAT" comments: 1. We show in the video that this thing, at least our unit, was so poorly built that it's unsafe even on a flat road or paved cycling path. Sincerely speaking, if you want this thing because you love AMD and want a bike, then... OK. But please, please take it to an experienced mechanic first to get a once-over for safety. Ask them specifically to look at the drivetrain and the high & low limit screws on the derailleurs. **Make sure they look at the brakes! Ours were adjusted such that they were going through the spokes on one side and into the tire on the other!** This is dangerous for ALL TYPES OF RIDING. IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE A TRAIL. 2. Taking it off just a ~5-6" drop (equivalent to a curb in a neighborhood) was enough to knock the rear shock coil loose. Keep an eye on the shock coil over time as it may need adjustment. There's a good chance that a casual rider would overlook things like the coil knocking around because they wouldn't have the experience to know it's a problem. Remember not to over-tighten the coil! 3. The wheels are so out of true that the bike, even on a flat road, turns on its own 4. This was for fun, so we did put it through torture testing for, you know, fun and something different 5. But seriously, if you just want to get out and ride and you only want an AMD bike, awesome. I'm happy to encourage riding. Just get it safety checked!

Since AMD has taken this down on their site, they should TE-do the entire project and sell a bike built with all enthusiast-grade parts. It’s obvious that people will pay for the product given that they’ll spent $200 over MSRP for a AMD-branded Walmart bike, so why not build an actual mountain bike with good parts and charge like $999 for it and give the consumer a product that is safe, well built, and worth being proud of.

You really took one for the team on this- good on you for living to tell the tale! As a PC enthusiast I don't know a whole lot about the engineering of PCs but as a former mountain bike industry R&D engineer I do know bikes- and bikes like that do such a terrible disservice to entry level riders. The URT suspension design (Unified Rear Triangle or floating drivetrain) originally dates way back to when bikes were first built. I think the first URT mountain bike appeared in '92. The problem with this particular design (aside from being just incredibly poorly built) is that with the pivot right in front of the BB the suspension wants to compress every time you stand up to pedal- to make it work you need a ton of low speed compression damping. To add insult to injury the design is such that the shock is set up to have a falling rate- which can work with a small air shock but not with a dirt cheap coil shock. This video took me back to the early days of the suspension revolution when I broke Trek's first suspension bike at their headquarters when it was unveiled- lol.

I work at a bike shop, and I recognize those rim brakes, they usually come on cruisers. They suck for cruisers. We mainly sell Trek bikes, and they do not make a single full suspension mountain bike less than $2000 for a reason; and it is because rear suspensions are one thing you absolutely cannot cheap out on. I do have to give the bike credit for having an actual Shimano drivetrain, most of those cheapo bikes are from pretty much unknown companies.

I questioned the safety of this bike on the AMD forum and of course a few fan boys protect AMD. I can see AMD wanting a single speed cruiser type bike with their logo on it sorta. They however have no business pardon the pun pedaling this dangerous contraption. You are so right that for about a hundred bucks more you can get into a real entry level mountain bike. Worth pointing out in the used market you can get a bike 10x better at the same price point. AMD should do the right thing and pull the sale of this bike before it kills someone. Or at the very least make a disclaimer that this bike is intended for entry level greenway riding only.

I tried to fix it myself but I'm inexperienced and now I'm on the waiting list for my bike to be fixed because I couldn't do it.
@bikesnblades67374 жыл бұрын
Buy chain, buy cheap chain breaker (if shimano chain). Cut chain to correct length, assemble chain on the bike according to the chain user manual using the chain breaker and connector pin or in case of a SRAM chain, using the quick link connector. Then adjust the derailleur limiting screws on your derailleur so the chain sits flush under the highest and lowest gear without overshifting, which actually shouldn´t even be necessary if you hadn´t fiddled with it before. Check if everything works smooth. If not, tighten the barrel adjuster on your shifter until it works fine. Two bolts and a barrel adjuster, drivetrain setup in a nutshell. No need for a mechanic or waiting 6 months. Go on youtube and do 10 minutes of research. It´s a bicycle, not rocket science.

Great video, mind boggling that a brand would want to risk its reputation on something so obviously shoddy. If AMD wants to make a bike, get a mid level frame and load it up with AMD driven tech. You might not make as much profit on it but it would at least be a marketing talking point. AMD could leverage their existing skills to make an e-bike with a centralize control system for electric gear change, shock settings, dropper, brake adjust, and link it all to a centralize control unit to track all the stats. It would still be a bit gimmicky but at least it wouldn't be embarrassing. They might actually be capable of adding something cool to the market. It would certainly be better than selling this 'kiddy crippler'. If you want something to be put on the wall make a miniature one, like they do with motorbikes. Who wants this hunk of junk in their house? Kind of weird to be doing this, while everything else they have going on is suddenly a lot more serious and quality. You rode it well considering, I would have got off and tossed it the second it started pulling to the right. You certainly have the baubles :-)
