@@PunxTV123 They already have. Intel only charged $2k for their top-end HEDT cpus, while top-end TR cost $4k. But, the 3990x has performance comparable to 2 $10k Intel server cpus ($20k) for $4k. Intel's best HEDT cpu (10990xe) competes with AMD's best consumer Ryzen cpu (3950x, also the highest priced consumer cpu at $750). The 10990xe is $1k, but it's never in stock so really the best they have to offer is the 9980xe that costs $2k. That's a $1250 difference for the same performance. So yes, AMD has raised the prices for top-end performance, but they still manage to give the customer more performance than Intel for less money. AMD also lowers their retail prices as their products age. Intel does not. Intel will charge you more for a previous generation cpu than they will a newer one if they make price changes as already pointed out. Corporations will be corporation but AMD still offers their customers the most performance for their money. *edit: fixed a mistake.

@jayh0086
@jayh0086 4 жыл бұрын
On hardware unboxed they compared the new XT series chips to the CURRENT price of the non XT variants which is up to $100 cheaper than the originally posted MSRP. But if people were willing to buy the original 3000 series chips at said MSRP then by that logic these would be a good deal once the kinks get ironed out. But since the retailers can sell the old chips for any price they want, the comparative price premium may not be warranted.

This anomaly with the 3900x benchmarks got me confused as seems to go against other benchmarks I've seen of it compared to other Ryzens of the same gen. AMD need your money and they've decided they need to charge the customer a realistic price. They have to be so careful as Intel has so much more money that they could undercut AMD in the blink of an eye and absorb any losses for years. Thing is, for every cheap retail CPU AMD sells, Intel sells a trayful of CPU's at higher margins to SI's & OEM's. Ryzen,as a platform, is still not stable enough for them except for niche products which is why they will keep buying Intel by the tray.

@Andy Young It's normal for companies to change the naming schemes. i9 didn't exist in the past, instead there was i7 Extreme. Now there is Desktop i9 and Extreme i9. Nvidia used Ti for higher performance versions previously, now they have Ti and Super, both used in the same generation of cards.

You're probably right. This whole launch is bizarre and their reasoning is complete corporate babble speak and not really even convincing as far as that shit goes. I'm thinking now that they've got market share it's time to jack up the price and they don't want customers to have price shock when 4000 can't really justify the price gap vs. performance uplift. Like let's say the new 4600 is $299.99 while 3600's are sitting on shelves for $150 and the performance difference is only 15%. The reviews will not be kind in that instance.

@LordBufu
@LordBufu 4 жыл бұрын
@@Kgrhj It's a growing trend sadly, the RTX launch was a good example of how many 'smart' people, are in today's small but overly vocal 'enthusiast' group. That group indirectly has influence over the perception tech channels have on there audience, via affiliate links and there own forums, and LTT has quite a good community on there forums tbh (but as expected seems mostly composed of vocal enthusiast (at least when i did skim there forums a few times), and no i don't directly mean that as a bad thing either). A good read of the steam hardware survey, will show that most people have a rather decent expectation of what 'cheap' or 'affordable' actually means in practice rather then theory (looking at it as an average Joe with a normal live). But if you surround yourself with a certain group of people, your going to share there opinions, the result of the echo chamber effect (especially if that group is more 'vocal', or should i say 'enthusiastic' 😉, about it). And that is not even covering the audience spread, where as certain countries might have more people that can afford to be vocal on the internet, or even purchase new toys. There quite a lot to it, and i certainly don't envy them, having to navigate that minefield to get views and thus income atm. (honestly i was readable, before i edited it, screw you KZbin comment section 😔😡)

I’m curious if the “optimized 7nm process” will also yield increased overall overclocking performance and higher stable all core clocks all around. Id be curious to see if that’s the case

There are many reports of people being able to OC new 3600 cpus higher than "old" ones from launch, using lower voltages. Gamers nexus made a video on it, even though they only had one old and one new cpu.

@ThaReal CLo That's because the millisecond adjustments of the boost clock is far superior than just increasing voltage which just nets you an overall temperature increase that gets in the way more than it helps. It's not dissimilar to undervolting on Vega. By simply reducing power and thus temperature the automatic boost will hit higher clocks with less power. So that lone grants Intel nothing but owing to the fact that they don't have good enough software to auto-boost. What determines which is best is the overall performance and features. Intel isn't looking good and it's almost impossible to recommend to any degree at this point.

Linus left out an important option regarding StoreMi 2.0 at 8:50, which is that sometimes you need to have multiple versions of software for it to work on different hardware configurations and AMD might have had time to build just some of those but didn't want to keep everyone waiting.
