GTX Titan Black cost $1000, released Q1 2014. GTX 980 cost $500, released Q4 2014. GTX 980 is approx. 15~17% faster. So, okay, maybe it won't be $400, it's kind of too sweet to be true (although heavily depends on what Intel rolls out), but half the 4080's MSRP at same performance is what they need to not keep loosing market share to Intel. Especially if they still won't match 4080 in ray/path tracing.

Both Nvidia and AMD leaks are shaky at best. AMD has a very consistent track record of falling short of both leaks and expansions. Those prices are never going to happen. There will be to much remaining 7900xt stock for AMD to make them completely irrelevant and literally lose money.

What kinds of magic is the 8800xt pushing to out perform a card with 31% more stream processors, 25 % more bandwidth, 40 percent more memory processing speed. The 7900Xt can clock to 3GHz. The processing uplift is 13% of 31 percent less stream processors. On paper this looks like BS.

It’s happened again and again over the three decades of GPUs. The last time nvidia revamped its architecture was with Maxwell in 2015. Most recently, RDNA nuked GCN thanks to an architectural shift doubling the frame output per cycle which improved EVERYTHING gaming wise and less so data processing wise. If AMD is targeting the AI market, which they damn well should be because that’s where the money is waiting for them, then they need to tackle how matrix operations are carried out in the same way and that would be done via lateral communication on the GPU die as well as how instructions are sent to the die via bit rate vs frequency. These gamer cards are just a bottom line to fund experiments for their data accelerators.

@@RagedGecko I think the biggest issue for me will be the limited vram of 16 GB at best. HB showed games @ 4K with all the bells and whistles in settings pushing over 16GBs. They are seeing a downturn in DYI and that will continue and having failed at the update at the high end they went with price consciousness and what you wrote of. I'm all for that, but don't pull my leg on it being a better card than my 7900 XT. I am also going to keep my 7900 XTX as well, because of the 24GBs. I like the bells and whistles.

But they can't afford an RX 8800 XT for $399, and they'd need insane quantity at a similar price to boost market share. This ain't happening. 7900XT may have about 30% more CU, but 8800XT has about 40% higher clock speed. If there's any architectural improvements, 8800XT could possibly be equal or slightly faster than 7900XT in raster and way faster in RT. As for the pricing, 399 is wishful, 7800XT was launched at 499. 8800XT would already be considered aggressive if its priced at 449.

I highly disagree with Q1 2025 release estimate. First the old target window was Q4 of 2024 then they allegedly pushed it back because RDNA 3 stock but by pushing it back they are dangerously close to BattleMage that depending on the performance might force them to aggressively lower their prices. Thus best marketing strategy would be to take the Q4 2024 release that would allow you to take advantage of Christmas/BlackFriday sales with no competition. Only reason they would not go with this strategy would be that there is no availability or their drivers are not ready. On the pricing RX 8800XT would easily sell at RX 7900GRE price point with slightly higher raster performance than RX 7900XT and with greatly improved RT performance. To me aggressive pricing for 8800XT would mean around 650-600$ range then taking that price point and inferring from previous generation launch pricing highly likely RX 8700XT would be around 500$ that would also make lot of sense if it can slightly beat RX 7800XT in raster and offer way better RT performance. In no world would company fully transfer the cost savings to consumer especially when there is still very high inflation.

AMD *needs* to up their ray/path tracing. 7900XTX may successfully compete with 4080 in raster, but as soon as the paths start tracing, it's a bottom tier. And unlike 2019-2020 period, it's no longer a gimmick for a couple of games, now almost every high-profile title has an above-ultra "ray tracing" setting in the options.

The software company knows its business. However not many gamers really care or utilize ray tracing. Some even go to say they don't care about the dry wet pavement look it brings. If the xtx can remain the consumers choice and price accordingly than it has its place and a very sturdy stance in that market. Though it does have great output. The watt/frame ratio doesn't justify the price. Imo

This looks like a midrange price reset. Nothing ground breaking performance wise but a price revelation. The die is around $80-85. And 8gb vram is what 13.00? So the kits sold at 100% margin would be about $220.00. 75.00 for cooler and $20 pcb

If the leaked specs are accurate, this will be a mid range card around 300mmsq, AMD currently prices that much silicon at 500usd. Expecting it to cost less than that would be stupid. I also think they should call it the 8700xt and leave the door open for a flagship card mid cycle refresh. A 70 class card should perform as well as last gen flagship, so that would repair their branding as well.

A sane person in the comments! RDNA3 and they pulled the XTX and GRE... I don't have much hope for them to be sensible here. If they name it RX 8800 XT, I'll already be happy. I fear for an XTX naming already. I couldn't be hoping for a sensible RX 8700 XT as their top-end next year.

@5:54 I can never not look at these reference models and not be reminded of Team Rocket haha. AMD seriously needed to be pricing more aggressively for a long time and stop launching prices just a hair shy of NVIDIA and making 0 sales then dropping prices after they get a heap of negative press. We shall see. I want to upgrade my 6900xt but I'm wary of the new NVIDIA power connectors and tbh all the 4000 series are to expensive as is the 7900xtx for the increase in performance at 4k

While I do hope you are right about the pricing I very much doubt they will be that cheap. I hope to be wrong about it though. The problem is the lack of competition in the market. Not only are consumers stuck with just a few manufacturers constantly balancing prices on what the other is doing, but those manufacturers are deliberately reducing stock right now of the current GPUs. This is so the launch of the next gen products goes to a market that is 'hungry' and thus the seller can raise the price. I'd add another $150 on those prices and you would still spin it as 'aggressive pricing'.

These price expectations are so optimistic. AMD has been too happy to charge only barely better value compared to Nvidia for years now. Now granted AMD DOES need to make profit to be sustainable, and cutting prices has proven to only go so far against a competitor with so much more of the market it’s actually less cost to them to match price cuts in return. PLUS both Nvidia and AMD are netting so much larger margins on the AI boom. I’m astounded they’re even paying attention to gaming concerns lately. My expectation is if this “8800XT” (as we assume they’re going to call it) ends up roughly on par with the 4070ti including in RT, it’s VERY hard for me to see it releasing for under $600. AIB models will likely move up to $700, maybe more. If I see a release MSRP announced any lower my expectation will shift to it still being quite cut down on RT performance relative to Nvidia…which I honestly rather expect anyway. Even if the RT is basically still 7000-series level but raster is roughly 4070ti/7900XT I’d expect a release price close to $500. The only way we see $400 is if there’s almost no RT improvement and raster only around the 7900GRE. Which marketing and competition convo aside, is about the only scenario where I wouldn’t have any point in buying one. Even if I…still probably will lol.

If this will be true and the 8800xt will be as fast as the 7900xt it will be a steal and the old performance target that we saw in the past is coming back: 300-400$ GPUs which are almost as fast as the XX80 gpu of the previous generation. Edit: all this things look quite true because if you also look what amd did with the rx 6800, is very similar, 300-400$ price range and almost the same performance of an rtx 3080. This was the old XX60s performance target which we don't see since rtx 2000

Odds are real low for anything anywhere near RX 7900 GRE performance. I expect a more realistic $399 midrange card as the 8700XT 16GB with performance being a lot closer to an RX 7800 non-XT. $499 for a Radeon RX 8700XTX with a factory overclock and 20GB of GDDR6 VRAM with performance on par with the RX 7800XT. AMD will not be releasing anything even close to a 7900 class GPU.

It's possible that for all RDNA4 products AMD may only be using one SOC with 32 CU's (2048 SP's) for the 8600 series card and simply use two of them via chiplet arrangement for the 8800 series card. The 8700 series will simply use two binned down SOC's that don't pass the tests for all 2048 SP's on the chip. If they want to AMD could even put 3 chiplets onboard for 61044 Sp's for a 8900 series card later on. I expect the price of the 8800XT to be higher in the $500 to $600 range but if it beats the 4080 Super or matches it at least then AMD will have a real value winner like the7800XT is. The real key is if RNDA4 brings AMD's ray tracing capabilities up to par with NVidia but RDNA4 is rumored to have a new ray tracing engine so maybe we will finally see some improvement there. I hope so.

Your channel name should be Mentally challenged not graphically.. I should make his channel go away in my feed after i post this but here it is. You saying the 7700/7800 die size is 30% larger is wrong. The GCD is 200mm² (about 30-45mm² smaller than the monolithic RDNA chip) and the cache makes up the remainder of the size. Cache is relatively high yield compared to GPU core dies sooooo No there will not be a massive price drop, at least right away. Also I have big questions about AMD using such weak memory for their biggest version of RDNA4. RDNA3 gets its biggest gains from overclocking memory and you are telling me they pushed clock speed A FULL FUCKING GHZ while at the same time lowering the peak memory speed. Yup no thanks. I got duped into buying RDNA3, I won't hold out hope for them to learn anything anytime soon on the GPU front.
