For me it comes down to the 5700X's lower TDP. I'm wanting to upgrade from a 3600 on a low/mid tier B450 mobo which already always ran uncomfortably hot. I've wanted a 5800X but just didn't think my system and vrms could handle it. In my particular case (which I think many share) the 5700X is exactly what I've been looking for in a quick, relatively inexpensive, and safe upgrade.
@TTks124
@TTks124 2 жыл бұрын
5800x it's just a 5700x with dual chiplet cpus power limit. Nothing more, nothing less. The stock power limits are pretty much counterproductive, since the OC throttles under load...... if you drop it somewhere to 95-110w you will most likely gain in average frecuency under gaming loads.

Purple, Being an owner of both the Ryzen 5800X , 5700X, And recently a 5600 I'm very impressed with the low power usage upgrades. Super cheap performance especially with current "New" system builds being way out of my budget. Example: replacing a 1600X with the 5600 is a no brainier on my B450 Aorus M system. Even my 5800X with PBO + curve got my temps down and clocks up when all core clocks matter. Being able to get 98 percent of the performance of the X while sipping power is a win in my book.

I am getting the same result as shown in 12:31, actually even lower under normal taks, its eficient and runs cool, you can use a cheap air cooler for it as well, and also in case you really want the extra horsepower you can overclock it and get 5800x performance for free. I cant say about Intel because I don't have one to test, so you should use the chart for reference.

@@SebasztianCH My plan is to leave it stock for now ( its pretty powerful already ) and in the future if I see that I need more power I will overclock with the PBO settings, unlocking the TDP and runnning at full power, to get a bit more life out of it. I don't see the need to undervolt/downclock as that CPU in stock already runs in a lower TDP and also runs cool. downclocking/undervolting will be a option only if you are building a system prioritizing lower power comsumption, im my case I am not aiming for that much.

What needs to be mentioned in this review is the fact that a lot of B660 motherboards from $160 USD and below from Intel have crap VRMs/power limits and can't run anything higher than an intel i5. This was shown in the "hardware unboxed" review of B660's and really only the more expensive motherboards are worth it with Intel. This means the price difference is bigger than what is claimed here. As an example, theGigabyte B550M DS3 can be bought for $90 dollars and that can run the 5950x with no issue. None of the cheap ($160 USD and below) B660 boards can run an i7 much less an i9. This means that if you decide to do a drop in upgrade with a CPU you're going to need to buy a new motherboard with Intel in 2 years, while a person can buy a 5600 now and then buy a 2nd hand 5950x in a few years for a cheaper price.

My 5700x is arriving tomorrow (already flashed my B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC to the latest BIOS), upgrading from the 3700x, which is still (for me) a well rounded CPU. What attracted me about the 5700x is the new architecture's performance at the same TDP of 65w, without having to invest and configure an AIO for something like the 5800x, which I have heard has "high temp" issues. Anyway, I appreciate this review...and no, I won't be changing my AMD system to have the INTEL performance of the 12600k or other INTEL cpu's current generations. As with any PC enthusiast reviews, it all comes down to individual budget and personal use-case for one's build.

Nice :) I'm in a very similar situation. I have a 3700x but I'm going to pick up a 5700x as an indulgent upgrade (since the 3700x is still mostly good enough). I'm most likely going to move over to AM5 once DDR5 price and performance has improved so likely zen 4+/refresh, or zen 5 (which supposedly is a significant architectural change). I'd been looking at 5800x, 5800x3d and 5900x but all would require a cooling upgrade (especially the 58xx cpus). Plus I don't need more than 8 cores. The only place where the 3700x is lacking is in a reasonably modded KSP, where at 1440p it flutters below 60fps and can tank below 40. The larger CCX of Zen 3, thus unified cache, should really help alleviate that cpu bottleneck along with the other improvements that increase IPC/single threaded performance. What's nice is that I'll likely have some thermal headroom, so I can tune performance with PBO to reach my ideal thermals and noise. How are you finding your 5700x?
@WebbTech1
@WebbTech1 2 жыл бұрын
@@maxbirdsey7808 thank you...your detailed explanation of the CCX architecture of the 3700x resonates with me, though during it's (the 3700x's) tenure in my system my graphics card was an RTX 2060 Super Founder's Edition, with16 GB, 3600mhz RAM...which at 1440p yielded nice results generally while gaming: no stutters whatsoever, though I pushed the 2060 Super to it's limits in overclocking at times. Within the last month, I upgraded to the 5700x and the RTX 3070 and I couldn't be happier at 1440p! What I thought was "smooth and stutter free" at 1440p before is superseded now. Ultra settings are very easily achieved thus far in the games I play. I won't go over a detailed explanation of my PC case and it's cooling configuration, but essentially it's all air, a total of 6 case fans (excluding the wraith prism for CPU), and at load on all cores @4.6 ghz the temp peak is 71C. Not bad! There's so many directions of discussion to go into, but essentially I am enthralled now with my system. Up and coming generations are exciting, but I'm allowing time to "settle in" with my recent CPU and GPU upgrades! Cheers!

Thanks for your honest feedback and review Luke 😇👍. For upgrades, the 5700x is a great choice with a bios flash and drop in upgrade. I don’t hoe I feel about the “too little, too late” comment as the whole global situation delayed many tech releases and will high demand for pc / pc parts & laptops AMD did what every manufacturer does and pushed out as much high-end stuff as it can sell. Yes I feel now these CPUs you’ve shown aren’t as powerful as Intels 12600k offering, but for many users a drop in upgrade is a cheap performance boost and for those willing to just do a dirty quick o/c it’s free performance. so for many budget pc owners this more than enough to hold off a complete pc upgrade and allow a future GPU upgrade which can be utilised. Intel has definitely given AMD a reason to kick it up another gear and it’s great to see a bit of tit-for-tat going on to help drive innovation in the industry.

Very good analysis indeed! The drop-in upgrade factor really is a fantastic solution for both of these new chips. I can definitely see how a quick, easy, drop-in upgrade to the 5700X will appeal to a lot of people. It's what I'd be tempted to go for personally over a new motherboard and OS install etc.. I can also see how other people will happily switch platform for the better performance of the 12600K, so it's great to see both good options as consumers. The continued Intel-AMD competition is definitely good for us consumers in my opinion. Luke

With regard to Shadow of the Tomb Raider results the increased 1% lows of the Intel chip, at those fps figures, are irrelevant, as you would not be able to tell the difference between the two, no stutters etc. So effectively it's only the average fps that matters and as you say you would probably not notice the difference between the two chips, even though the win technically goes to AMD.

Very fair point indeed. I guess the only caveat would be high refresh rate users who will indeed value even the 1% low FPS closer to their monitor's actual refresh rate. But as you say, they're already high enough on AMD and Intel to make the vast majority of users happy. Luke

Can then sit on hands using a still powerful desktop until zen4 and/or Core i7 pricing becomes more reasonable.

i dont understand why the 5700x is at 3.85? it runs up to 4.6 by default and casn be overclocked to 4.7-4.8 its on reddit ..people achieve that but you run at 3.8?

@Juri V no full load is at 4.650. not 3,8 like his also when at idle it is at 3.4 supposedly but i see it hovers a lot at 3.6 actually so full load is defibately not at 3.8 there is something wrong with the video of the poster

5700X on par with 12600K,but way cooler and way better energy efficient. On top of all that is the lower price. So... what's the point of this Intel heavy payed video? Of course nobody mention about LGA 1700 cpu/socket wrong design that leads to 12 series overheat in heavy threaded tasks. Intel still has much work to do for beating AMD. Maybe 13 gen will compete,but i also have doubts.

At first I wondered why you were reviewing CPUs that have been out for over a year. And then I realised that AMD never released the 5600. That seems like a major delay from them for what would have been a very popular CPU back then.
@RobBCactive
@RobBCactive 2 жыл бұрын
They didn't need to release the 5600, they were selling everything against weak Intel line and general high demand for PCs. The price adjustment and new SKUs are preparing for Zen4 & AM5 launch in September as well as Alder Lake. Right now even new AM4 builds can make better sense when mobo costs are factored in, given local price & availablity of Intel 12th gen. I saw figures suggesting Intel were selling overwhelmingly i7/9 12th gen. On Zen4 launch, there may be further falls in Zen3 prices, but an Intel increase is expected so the budget SKUs could stay where they are.

SIGHHHH i'm on a x370 mobo and I am struggling to pick what cpu to upgrade too (i have a 3600x now) should i cheap out and just use my pc for a few more years (5600) or go balls out and get a 5900x (5950 way too much for me). seems like no one likes the 5700x :(
@KitGuruTech

I personally think the 5900X - particularly at its new pricing - is a really good chip. Depends on your use case though, as the 5800X3D could be a good, simple upgrade for gaming alone. Or the 5600 overclocked if you want to save some money for gaming alone. Luke
