Im pretty sure in older cpu versions like athlon and fx, dropping the CPU with the pins will damage it but I don't think it will work with ryzen

Honestly, NEVER take the cpu out of the clamshell until the literal second that you're gonna place it in the mobo socket. Just a friendly tip, especially for all my fellow shaky nervous wrecks out there lol.

Meh, I though the cable was too short to reach but after seeing it, he might've just installed it wrong. But after all, he's not loosing that much performance since he's using B550 and PCIe 8x Gen 3. The 3070 he slotted in won't ever fully load the interface's capabilities.

As long as the pins are not damaged, it should be fine.

if the scratches are deep it can affect the temps. I've had that happen before. That's why u can never scratch off thermal paste and always use microfiber to clean and buff after removing most of the paste lightly with paper towel.

Dude why is your gpu slotted in the second pcie slot?! You do know that on this motherboard that slot is running in pcie gen3 x4

As per the manual that came with the motherboard, that's the slot for GPU and it is PCIe x16

Icydock makes a 5.25 drive bay that can hold 6 2.5in drives. I've got a full virtual lab with 24tb of storage inside of an itx case with room for a low profile 2070 for GPU pass-through. I run it headless in my pantry with the router. It was a pain to get every part to fit, but It can be done.

Threadripper you use different motherboard. So cant really call it an upgrade because you need to change the motherboard to install Ryzen 5950x.

Don't think there should be any issues. You are just changing the motherboard and installing a new CPU. Other components will remain unchanged. Depending which motherboard you buy, just make sure you update the BIOS before installing the CPU.

From the Cinebench R23 benchmark you can see the 5950X is clearly the beast.. 16C/32T comes in 2nd behind 64C/128T Threadripper.. Easy decision to switch I suppose.

@@UploadingLobster Cinebench has never meant anything to me but the W-3175X wasn't designed for a daily system, hence why mine is degrading lol.

I would say the same for Cinebench R20 as it seemed meh, but R23 really puts it to the test. Nonetheless, it is just another benchmark.

@@UploadingLobster R23 says the 3970X is 10K points ahead of my W-3175X yet my CPU beats it in most rendering tasks like Blender, I don't believe in synthetic benchmarks but I'm probably going to replace it with the 5950X as I want a simple system which doesn't require much effort.

Just got it for $350 used on a reddit hardware trading sub. Gonna pair it with a 3080 ftw3 i got for $650 on offerup. Should be set for another 3-4 years i think.... especially since the ps5 and xbox series x are totally underpowered pieces of shit that can barely pull of 4k at 30 fps. I read that this chip doesn't have the high temp problems that the 5800x does, is that true?
