If you're intending to build a high-end PC meant primarily for gaming, the 7800X3D seems like a good bet, though its kinda hard to say for sure as the 7800X3D hasn't been released for sale yet, but numerous media outlets have been hypothesizing how the X3D will be a beast of a gaming CPU...in any case I think this motherboard paired with a 7800X3D will make for a good gaming PC that should last several years, and give you a good CPU upgrade path too!

Hey @@ALKtech I'll keep my trusty MSI RTX 3070 for a while longer that I luckily got for an okay price at release and before everything got ridiculous with the prices. VRAM is sparse but I'm still happy with it. Before that it was a GTX 970. And until last week I ran everything on a 6700K with 16 GB RAM, SATA SSD and 2 Hard Drives. It was about time. I still cant believe the speed of my WD M.2. Its...stupid fast. :D So...I upgrade hesitantly. But if I do, I want it to pay off. Without getting on the enthusiast level though.

@@jonnze8949 I personally run a RTX 3070 for my primary rig that I game on at 1080p - have it paired with a 5700X and it serves my purposes just fine, in spite of the 8GB VRAM. If you ain't in a rush, wait for AMD's RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT to arrive, and with some luck, prices for new graphics cards (especially previous gen) may fall even further...and perhaps you could then splash out for a nice upgrade to fully realise your 7800X3D's potential!

I use Lightroom, photoshop, Topaz and other photo editing software to load (large dumps) and edit photo files that can be 50+,MBs, in addition to gaming. Which CPU do you suggest between Intel and AMD? I have the 3080Ti. It's been a long time since I've put together a PC and currently researching this stuff and have some idea of the products but wanted to get some feedback from those who have been on top of this stuff. I am not too concerned about price to performance because this build will be around, as long as it last, for years to come. I'd like a rig that works and games. Btw, I am still using my build from November 2012 (2600K and 980Ti), so that should give an insight on how long I stick with a build. Thanks...
@ALKtech
@ALKtech Жыл бұрын
Oh wow...how on earth have you survived with a 2700K for that long with those productivity apps 😂 Are you using your 3080Ti with the 2700K at the moment? Given your productivity workload and intention to game, I'd recommend going with a i5-13600K, which seems to be the value and productivity king at this point in time. One argument against it is how the LGA1700 platform is sort of, end-of-life once Intel's 14th Gen Meteor Lake is released, where AMD's AM5 platform might make more sense if you'd wanna do a mid-life upgrade. That said, since you mentioned you'd likely stick with a build (untouched) for a long time, going down the 13600K might be a good option - you could also pair the CPU with a Z690 board for cost savings!

Thanks for the tips.

I was you. I was stuck with a GTX 960 and Intel i7-4790 built at home that was high-end... 8 years ago. The 960 is especially bad. This build could only run games in low settings and to make it worse I work with tech digital art with 2D, 3D procedural and rending, VFX, game engine like UE5, and many of these are optimized or have features that require an RTX for good performance. Render time and laggy system because of many heavy apps open were a huge bottleneck. I build a new system with Ryzen 9 7950X and 3070, and also got one of these new Samsung 980 2TB SSD for fast I/O, and the difference is a night to day. AMD is good in my case because it's all strong cores design which is better for 3D rendering than Intel's mixed approach which is better for more general work. DCCs also have better video encode support for Intel (AMD with graphics is still kind of a new thing yet) but I would hand the work to the GPU encoder, anyway. It costed me a leg but the cut in render time alone makes it possible to increase quality and double my work. And honestly, 5 of these 8 years suffering with a laggy workflow and a dry gaming experience because of low settings was not worth the savings.

If the system does work with one stick of RAM, plonk in the other, and see how it goes!

@@ALKtech yikes... AMD really just priced themselves out unless you're getting a 7900+ CPU. Does not make sense to buy the new hardware when you're getting a 7600 or 7700, especially before the platform matures and GOOD (6000+) DDR5 comes down in price. I would like to see some proper benchmarks like HWUB 50 game average, at 1080p/1440p and 4k with realistic settings, not 1080p LOW. Probably more tests will pop up once 4000 Nvidia and RDNA3 comes out. I don't think the new gen CPUs will be flying off the shelf so best outcome is to wait for Intel, Nvidia and RDNA3 to come out then make an informed decision with proper realistic FPS numbers. I reckon Intel has knocked it out the park in the midrange market if their true MSRP price leaks are true. DDR4 + Mature Mobo platform, also means you can upgrade to a premium DDR5 kit down the line if you want more performance or just skip to Zen 6 / Arrow Lake. However, if you're looking for a workstation monster, I think the 7950X will be hard to beat, at that kind of money, the platform cost should not be a prohibitive aspect of the decision making, considering they will support AM5 to 2025. (most likely 2026, like they extended for AM4)
@ALKtech
@ALKtech 2 жыл бұрын
@@marki9648 Totally agreed on the points that you've raised - in fact, Intel's lifting the lid on its 13th generation Raptor Lake offerings as we speak! I had the opportunity to lay my hands on a Z790 board from ASUS that sports DDR4 support (video's live on my channel now) - while I didn't have the chance to do any benchmarks with a 13th Gen processor, if the 13th Gen offerings are able to match or even beat the Ryzen 7000 series for the most part, it'd be clear which company would be taking the lead in sales for the coming months!

If the answer is no, I'd stick with the TUF GAMING! In fact, if you're going with the TUF GAMING board, I'd use the money saved to invest in a better AIO cooler - while ASUS's website doesn't state that the LC 240 supports AM5 - AM4 coolers SHOULD work with AM5, though I must say I haven't tried this myself just yet! Is this board good enough to make full use of 7900x for a good long life? pls reply

This board will handle a 7900X just fine, and probably give you some headroom to upgrade to Ryzen 8000/9000 series in the future...provided they're still on the AM5 socket!

I think 14+2 power design is not enough for future generations of cpu. Maaaybe it could handle well 7000 series. What do you think? Keep up good work.

Thanks! Kind of hard to say about the future generation of processors how power hungry they'd be, but given that AMD's had a good track record of having older boards that support even the latest processors (i.e. AM4), the 14+2 setup here should be adequate, but maybe not for the highest end Ryzen 8000/9000 series when they do arrive? Your guess is as good as mine!

the cpus would have to need way over 250 amps for the VRMs to not be enough, the 7950x cannot even hit 200 amps unless you overclock using some crazy cooling so it will be more then enough for any new cpu. So if AMD released 9950x and it pulled 350W then maybe, but that wont happen

@@ALKtech it will be enough, 70A power stages will handle anything that can fit into the AM5 socket as the thermal density will be the limiting factor, this board also has huge coolers

So there is no way to run x16 5.0 on the GPu with x4 5.0 on an m.2 at the same time? If you use a 4.0 gpu in the x16 does it disabled all 5.0 slots? Or can you do x16 4.0 for gpu and x4 5.0 with m.2 ?

The PCIe x16 slot for a graphics card and the primary M.2 slot can both operate at PCIe 5.0 speeds concurrently!
