Nvidia will come out with their own version. Call it DLSC, and make it only work on their GPUs. Gamers will praise Nvidia for innovation. Linux users will get another free feature that's adopted across the entire ecosystem well beyond games which Microsoft can't match but ultimately only they care about. And AMDs market share in GPUs will continue to go down. Gamers will ask where the Nvidia competing features are while already using them for free. It's like I've seen this play out a dozen times already. :(

What AMD did there is NOT texture-compression and is lowering quality significantly in hopes that the AI-upscaling can hide the artefacts. And there are so many ways to compress textures and instead of using any of those more and more even intentionally BLOAT the textures so that they can be lazier with the rest: They store an uncompressed version of the in-memory representation. "Oh, your roughness-layer is represented by 4096x4096 RGBA 12bit/channel textures with 8x8 texture-blobs cause you forgot to match the shader-resolution? - let me store that 256x256 greyscale image in that format" and then taking 50 MB instead of the actual 12 kb the texture really had. And this will only make that worse. Also any claim of 70% compression just shows that the person writing that has no clue and should be ignored. take Warzone, Eldenring or any other modern game. Textures dont even make up 70% of the storagerequirment. You could literally delete every single texture and not get such insane reduction numbers.

I hope that AMD Gaming Storage Compression gets implemented as a plugin for Unreal Engine so that the game file sizes can be much smaller.

Nvidia has already a similar one : Random-Access Neural Compression of Material Textures

Man I kept saying I was going to be fine keeping the 7800x3d for afew gens but seeing how good the 9000 is looking, I probably will indulge myself.

Appreciate AMD actually making stuff like compression open. Nvidia had something similar, but yeah, limiting your games only to Nvidia is a yikes

games store their textures as raw png because they want them pixel perfect. you don't need AI to reduce filesize by 70%, they could simply store textures as a jpg. but to be fair, jpg are pretty bad. hopefully the AI compression looks better than jpg

Exactly why I have a 1600-watt EVGA and a 1000-watt EVGA PSU if I want to power it I can! Even if it has to be run on a secondary system!

The thing about macs is they have drop dead beautiful hardware. Windows machines just can’t keep up, and not all PC consumers are autistic enough to be happy with a super minimal linux build on an 80 dollar refurb laptop.

Finally, smaller game sizes. Nvidia demonstrated this before, but it hasn't gone anywhere. Now AMD has their own version. Ray-tracing, AI, and upscaling are all nice but useless if I can't download the game in the first place.

People want privacy when using their personal computers. AI will freak anyone out because let's face it, most PCs have some kind of torrents on them. Whether you torrent games, software or movies/tv series - the addition of AI will make anyone nervous of it snitching on us.

lol that Crucial P3 1TB Nvme "on sale" now for 60$ sold for 40$ on Amazon last year, thank god I bought a few drives when the prices were good, no chance in hell I'm paying this over inflated prices for storage.

The mistreatment towards AMD gpu users was wild in my region. I have 2 systems one with GTX1650 and other with 6950XT. I'm not even 20 and people who are less my age shit talk just cause I like AMD gpus and cpus. I mean like nvidia is straight up robbing us with gpu prices and if it weren't for AMD most of us would be running 1080Ti to this day not able to afford 4060. Nvidia prices are going to be crazier on 6000 series cards. For me AMD is a hero. They genuinely make everyone's gaming experience better. Hope AMD sales go up.

I remember this channel and Gamers Nexus in 2017 laughing at AMD saying Ryzen SUCKS FOR GAMEs and it needs 8 cores to compete with Intel 4 cores SUX. Man, have times have changed now as Intel is laughed at in the comment sections these days. AMD had a long way to go to earn the trust and slowly take on Intel more and more.

I’m the techie guy in my friend group and I have zero use for AI in my day to day life. There’s simply not enough useful AI programs yet for the average consumer. Someday certainly, but it’s going to be a far more gradual adoption than all these companies seem to realize.
