Sadly that's what they did last time as well. But then I don't get why they would even bother to release new cards or complain about their poor market share. If they wanted to change, pull a Ryzen move and be crazy aggressive with margins. E.g. release the 7800 XT at 399, 7700 XT at 299 and 7600 XT at 199 where they rightfully belong. I don't think they strictly have to follow Nvidia pricing scheme they just do it, because they got no intentions for being a real option.

@@fabiusmaximuscunctator7390 7800 XT at 399? You must be stupid, that pricing only makes sense when they release the 9070. 6800 was 580 bucks MSRP and XT variant was 650 bucks, 7800XT at 499 is more than fair, it competes with the 4070, which comes in at 599. 6800XT was competing with rtx 3080 back then, which came at 699. 6800XT, 7800XT, 3080, 4070, all 4 of these are in the same performance range, difference is generation technology improvements. 399 is for the 7700XT, the 50 bucks difference between that GPU and 7800XT is too small to justify buying 7700XT. Then we have 7900 GRE at 550 bucks, 50 bucks more expensive than the 7800XT, these 50 bucks are less valuable than jumping from 7700XT to 7800XT. This makes 7800XT the GOAT card from AMD this generation. The GRE is the second goat card from AMD, everything else is garbage. 7900XT came out too expensive. XTX samething. XT price should have been XTX price at launch, and then the XT should have been 50 to 100 bucks cheaper. So 900 bucks for XTX and 800 or 850 for XT. So all AMD has to do is to aim for 7800XT or 7900GRE performance, it is the sweet spot for most gamers willing to put in some cash but not excessively into an upgrade. This is why the 9070XT has great potential to be an amazing product, it all depends on the pricing really. Since it matches the GRE in raster and has much better RT overall (better than the XTX it seems), then the pricing needs to be either 400 bucks or 550 bucks. While the older cards crash down in value as they get replaced, making them even better last second deals. If they price the 9070 XT at 550, then its easy for them to drop down value on GRE and 7800XT, if they were to make the card 450, then the GRE would suffer a massive drop and the 7800XT would have to drop even further now making it even better for the consumer. This is why they made a 9070 and a 9070 XT, the twitter leak stated price range to be 450 and 650 for both of these cards, the 9070 is meant to replace the 7800XT and the 9070 XT is meant to replace the GRE, same raster performance but improved technology (RT, FSR 4 and the likes). So the 9070 is most likely going to cost 450 or 500. The XT variant will cost 500 or 550. I don't think they will go for 599+ as it would be too risky. The final pricing will be impacted by who releases first, nvidia or AMD. Nvidia, if they release the 5070 at 599, then it will instantly crush anything AMD has to offer in a perspective of price to performance at over 500 bucks. Now that i think about it, this might be another reason why the 8800XT was canned, as releasing it at 499 again might have been bad for AMD in all ways possible (ruins 7900 xt and xtx and too cheap to make a profit from). I don't think the 8800XT would keep up with the 5070, if we take a look at the specs on the 7800xt, they cut down some stuff from the previous gen equivalent, probably to reduce costs and make it more attractive to consumers. This is why the 6800XT has similar performance to the 7800XT but the new one is much cheaper. AMD is literally f'ed here. I think nvidia will copy paste the 5070 in terms of pricing again, this will force AMD into a corner and sell the GPUs at a much lower price point. If nvidia drops the value by 50 bucks on the 5070, AMD ceases to exist. If nvidia drops it by 100 bucks, then they are literally dancing on AMD's grave at that point and not giving a damn. I feel like AMD will come out first with the cards, and they will overprice them, then nvidia comes out with their stuff and AMD is forced to drop the value. This is how i see it happening. In the end AMD will not sell sh*t because they are too stupid to understand the market they are trying to conquer. Intel on the other hand seems to understand, but they only do so because they are sitting right next to their own grave, so one wrong move and they are royally f'ed. This is probably why intel canned the b700 variants, as they were more expensive to build and the final result was "meh" for the current market, since we have the 7800XT and 7900 GRE, which are already aggressively priced to try and conquer consumers.

AMD said they want to gain a considerable amount of market share with RDNA 4. They proceed to copy the bad things from Nvidia. Radeon needs a new marketing team ASAP. The current Radeon marketing team is a fucking joke. If AMD is really aiming to gain market share and deliver excellent price to performance, their highest-end Navi 48 GPU needs to at least match Navi 31 in raster performance and AD103 in RT performance for $400-$500. Any performance below that and a price above $500, then AMD has gone delusional.

I think the reason they did it is because they already have a CPU lineup with the 9x00 nomenclature. So if youre looking to buy a 9700X/T youd run into problems deciding whether you needed a CPU or the GPU. So you could have a computer with a Ryzen 7 9700X using a graphics card thats an RX 9700 - this is an issue that will convolute the talking points for youtube reviews. So it would be better to have a Ryzen 9700 with a Ryzen 9070 - that way it keeps the conversation cleaner and more succinct. That said, AMD already has a 9000 series graphics cards - they bought out ATi Which had a Radeon 9700 Pro - and that card was a banger. So they might wanna avoid this nomenclature for a multitude of reasons.

Honestly wouldnt put it past them, id rather they 'test the waters' so to speak. Rather, I *hope* thats whats going on because I want to root for AMD here, they are underdogs after all and Nvidia has cornered the market leaving prices as high as they want. I know they said they dont want to compete with flagship cards, but man I was hoping for an RDNA 4 XTX card. That 1k-1.2k price:preformance was attractive to me as it struck a good balance between VRAM for longetivity sake and rasterized preformance for contemporary gaming preformance at 1440p-4K. Id have gladly bought one if not for the fact that new GPUs are around the corner and most 7900XTX cards are bought of the market resulting in much higher prices (where I live atleast).

Well in that case if AMD is reading this F*** this “9070” noise, nothing wrong with it being the 8800XT or 8700XT. For real though I think there’s a nontrivial chance what’s actually going on is Nvidia has threatened to sue if AMD uses “8800” in anything because the 8800GT was one of Nvidia’s greatest generations almost 20 years ago. It was the 1080ti of the time except bigger. So taking “8070” and “9070” in particular would be a good way to stick it back to Nvidia as they’ll have to change their naming schemes in future generations. This might even end up being a negotiating point to prod Nvidia to quit acting like a bunch of little b****es about a product name apparently no one even remembers anymore.

At that price point whatever stock is left will be bought up immediatly leaving most consumers shit out of luck with their next best option being the 7900GRE. And since the GRE wont have FSR4 or 'better RT preformance' the pricing will come down, once more resulting in a lack of availability since the GRE has also stopped production. Within a few months the 9070xt will be all thats left for mid range priced options until the next generation. Most gamers are refusing to shill out 800 on a mid range card that will run out of VRAM in 3 years time, so by going AMD they are hoping for longetivity in extra VRAM and in 4K capable rasterized preformance. Sure, RT, DLSS, and RTX HDR are gone, but compared to high framerates at 4K those features mean very little as they exist mostly as a crutch to help Nvidia customers feel better about spending 800+ on gimped overpriced cards. (Dont get me wrong, those features are great but at the end of the day the most important part of a card is its rasterized preformance, no point in pushing RT if everythings on low settings, no point in using DLSS if your upscaling on 1080p, no point in using Frame gen if you can hit a stable 60.)

If AMD does this and releases a new generation where the new top tier card is at best a 7900XT for almost the same price of a 7900GRE then Intel has enough chance to gain a lot of market share since they will be the new budget GPU king, it will be perfect for them to release their B770 and B780 or other models after this release. Even NVIDIA can be worried if this actually happens.

If the leaks are true worst case scenario I get 13% better performance than my 7800xt I bought for $500 but the new card costs $650. At that price Radeon is dead in the water. Write it off and ignore the products. Best case scenario I get 13% better performance for the same price. At that point it is just a "well that isn't worth buying". For regular computing needs, sure but for PC gaming, Intel is far behind at least 5+ years in performance, stability, drivers etc., but the more competition the better. Maybe just maybe Intel can knock some sense into Nvidia & AMD constantly overpricing their GPUs.
@estacaotech2 күн бұрын
@@nickt6595 You are exaggerating or didn't watch B580 comparisons, the B580 delivers better performance than RX 7600 and 4060 while also having 12GB instead of 8GB, it leagues ahead of AMD in terms of RT and at 1440p its almost a 4060Ti in performance while being just 249$, intel XESS is better than FSR too, if it was 5+y in performance then it would be worse than something like the 5700XT or 3060 but its not.. the only problem now is supporting old games below DX11 but their drivers are getting better every month. An AMD representative literally came out discussing their strategy for pricing after talking about how they were going to change everything about the way they market. What did he say? He said that they would release high and drop as necessary. Literally the same thing they always do. These people are not worth their paychecks man. I mean truly, this is like listening to political analysts in their respective parties. Totally out of touch and can't separate themselves from marketing logic. This is not a garage sale where you start high so you have more room to bargain, this is a massive consumer GPU market. These people are so out of touch that they can't even relate to the logic of their own consumers any more. They'd rather flop an entire release all the way down the stack, rather than potentially lose some money on an MSRP they 'could' have possible successfully sold at that was higher. It's delusional. 'I could have gotten 45 dollars more out of that MSRP if I started high and worked my way down', meanwhile all your good reviews and value analysis in the media and among reviewers, never get to happen. In fact, they will get awful reviews, and none of us will ever take a second look at that GPU the same as we would have if it came out at a reasonable price. Let these rich elites price themselves out of the market, stop buying this utter crap. IT IS CRAP! Nvidia even releasing the 4060 and 4060 Ti that barely beat it's predecessor 3 years later. They tried to sell a 4070 Ti as a 1000 dollar '4080' after already cutting all these dies across the board in the first place. STOP BUYING THIS JUNK! You are throwing your money away for nothing. They aren't good products. Be adults and have some damn consumer solidarity. I'll game on my GTX 1070 with FSR turned up to the highest latency you could imagine before I ever buy this trash at the price they want to sell it for.

AMD has a history of doing this and I don't see any indication that they will change. So, Conner which would you prefer? 1st degree pricing that starts high systematically adjusted down by channel sellers to find the right price balancing supply and demand on the buyer's choice at what price point to purchase? Or 3rd degree pricing that is the 'run end' regulating 'low price cap' that is end buyer unobtainable or very limited available price as no end seller will lose their as selling a card for a run end MSRP at producer's ramp before run end clearance? You know the type of price everyone blames on the so said scalpers, there is no such thing as a scalper, inflating a 3rd degree run end priced card on the few units pulled ahead in the supply schedule to set that run end price. 9070XT so said price range $649 ramp down to $349 past peak rundown works on the TRTC model. So said 9070 at $349 down to $179 is invented or a lower bin SKU and there is no way to offer RDNA 4 desktop dGPU bottom bin at $179 card places the kit to the AIB priced < cost. So, 9070_ is 4080 performance or the 9080_ isn't being talked about on some divergence that may be destructive inter market competitive or some form of corporate spiel? mb

Perhaps they’d lose money but if they take a cue from Intel they might do better to offer a better deal to gain market share and get some positive reviews early on to get sales.
