If I look at the AM5 motherboards, I cry and I remember buying in April 2019 my current ASRock B450 HDV 4.0 for $59.99. During next week I will replace my Ryzen 2 2200G; 16GB (3000MHz) with a Ryzen 5 5600GT; 32GB (3200MHz) and I intend to keep the motherboard at least till 2030. I'm a collector! I have all Windows releases from 1.04 (1987) to 11 Pro (now) in a VM and the same is true for all Ubuntu LTS Releases from 6.06 LTS to 24.04 LTS plus 4.10 (the first); 5.04 (my first) and 24.10 the 20 years remembrance version :) :).
@yescooliotime13 күн бұрын
I picked up the same (16 instead of 32gb) for my living room PC, 5600GT till RX 6600 arrives. It was great value, gets you on the AM4 platform. My main PC has AM5 Motherboard, 7600x for future potential upgrades, but the difference in cost to performance between the two pcs will be like 3 times the cost, twice the performance (if even!). Love a good budget build.

Just built a new system with the 9800x3d. I initially ordered a MSI X670E Tomhawk but then sent it back and got the MSI X870 Tomahawk instead for 30$ more. Several reasons why x870 VS x670e :1) the x870 is newer, possibly longer term support ; 2) more usb ports total; 3) pci quick release for GPU - this alone is worth 30usd if you've ever been really frustrated to get the old gpu out of there; 4) usb 4 ; 5) wifi 7; 6) newer audio I would say to people looking at getting a new motherboard sure maybe there is no one key feature in x870 that alone justifies it over a x670 or similar but as a whole it could make all the difference.

Got a 9700X and an ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-I. Paired with a XFX Merc 7900XTX, this system absolutely blows away my older 5800x3D+ 3090 setup. I might upgrade to 9800x3D but I haven't seen a decent ITX board to go with it, except for that insanely overpriced ASUS X870 board. This is what I was waiting for, but still not completely sure what to go for when upgrading to a 9800x3D (I have a 4090). For context, I almost exclusively play DCS (flight simulator). I have a USB hub which is populated with 13 USBs, but USBs for my USB screens (scripted to show the Multi Function Displays of the F-15, F-16, F-18 and AH-64 Apache) have to go directly into my MOBO. That also goes for the mouse and keyboard, and soon my force feedback stick. My Asus rog strix B550-F gaming mobo is absolutely packed, and I have to change out connections from my simpit hardware to xbox controller when playing other stuff. The game takes up about 1,2TB space, and I allready have two full m.2s in audition to one 4TB m.2 for which the game is stored. What MOBOs do you think are relevant to consider here?

You need to differentiate the M.2 to the CPU vs through the (overloaded) chipset. Direct to the CPU gives 4 dedicated PCIe lanes per drive. Via the chipset makes umpteen devices share 4 lanes.
@EonymiaАй бұрын
I decided to be a little dumb and grab a X670E board instead of a more reasonable chipset. I got the Asrock X670E Pro RS because it had more than 4 SATA ports (I have 5 SATA drives still) and it also happened to be literally the cheapest X670E board available. It cost me 240€ at the time which was about the same price as an expensive B650 board and I figured since basically every X670 motherboard has good VRMs unlike some other generations and the cheaper B650 boards can vary, I figured it'd be a decent option that's still expensive, but not horribly expensive and gives me everything I need. I am gambling a little bit on the PCIE5 slot being useful in the future, but I figured this would set me up for the next 6 years at least in terms of support for anything. Time will tell, it's always a bit of a gamble. I don't use the onboard audio, so I don't mind too much that it doesn't have a great codec and the wifi chip is easily accessible for any future upgrades or if something goes wrong with it.

For perspective, every other X670E besides the PG lightning (270€) and MSI gaming (230€) boards were over 300 or 400 euros.

I'm getting the MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WI-FI just because I can saturate all three M.2 slots without sacrificing x16 on PCI_E1, and it has 6 SATA 6G slots. It also has two 5V RGB headers xd

Carfull on the ASRRock B550M and the B550 Phantom! If you use a tower cooler your GPU has a high chance of touching yourCPU cooler since they had the brilliant idea of placing the PCIe on the 1th Slot. Personaly ran into this problem when I upgraded a year ago from a GB X370 to an ASRock Elite X570 that had the same configuration ans spacing. the GPU was pressing against my Noctua DH15 which is very very bad indead. That is why they ASRock has very good value on the spec side but did a little wopsy on the design side. Thermaltake Assasin and Phantom coolers also run into this problem and they are budged compared to the DH15.

I swiped a Gigabyte B650 Eagle Ax and few weeks ago and finally received my last component of my computer the other day. Sadly the mobo ended up being faulty (tried every possible fix until I took it to a computer shop and they said the same) and I’m hesitant to try another Gigabyte board but want to believe it was just bad luck. 😅

Hi all, I am thinking about buying Asrock B650 Steel Legend Wifi or Asrock B650E Steel Legend Wifi (right now they are at same price somehow). Which category this Motherboard fit (mid or premium)? And do you think one of them is objectively better than the other? Thank You in advance
@francescodogna6467Ай бұрын
I forgot to add that the goal is to keep room for possible future upgrades in terms of CPU (right now it will be Ryzen 7 7500F) and GPU (probably a 4070S). Other options for Motherboard are really welcome. Thanks
@jackie2-g8lАй бұрын
I've watched Hardware Unboxed's review of the Steel Legend WiFi and the Aorus Elite AX V2, and they both perform as well as, or even better than, the premium B650 boards. However, the Steel Legend has very limited stock, so if it's available in your area, don't hesitate to grab it. Don't buy the B650E Steel Legend the B650 somehow is better which is really strange.
