That is actually when they are most likely to adopt another infant like this, especially one that is unrelated. They are more likely to do so either near the end of a pregnancy or immediately after giving birth due to the presence of hormones that enable them to bond with a baby and care for it!!

@@colt4t513 lol...well that is really not a consideration for macaques! Just like all wild animals their whole reason for existing biologically is to pass along their genetics by having offspring and successfully rearing them therefore whenever these females are in estrus they are going to mate if possible and it is just nature that often first time young macaque mothers will sometimes abandon their first baby.

This is nature at its most wonderful ..she's a momma who see's an abandoned baby and just looks after it like her own..she is definitely at the right place to get regular food which she is going to need in bulk feeding 2 boys!! The car park troop gets more human contact than monkey hill rd although they obviously have their registered feeders but there are so many troops up there you are less likely to get a lot of food..its just like puppy momma in monkey hill..she is disabled and takes on orphaned or abandoned babies..truly lovely.. she has full pouches so the kids will have banana flavoured milk today..that milk bar looks to be permanently open!! .. i hope we can follow this special family to see them all flourish..thank you for your lovely video..💞🇬🇧😍😎👍👏👏🙊🙈🙉🐵🐒

Yes!! Just an FYI a macaque mother that has just given birth (or is in the very late stages of pregnancy) are almost always the ones that adopt an unrelated newborn orphan due to the hormones that are present that causes them to bond and care for an infant.

It is absolutely incredible that she would adopt an infant in addition to her newborn. She is an amazing monkey very much like that crippled monkey who takes on newborns as her own. We can learn much from these wonderful creatures. It really shows that mothers who abuse their newborns or steal food out of their pouches are exceptions rather than the rule. I can’t help but wonder who his mother is and how she came to adopt him.

We know Ameia has/had two older daughters but the older of the two, the on with Leucism has gone missing and the other one I don't know how old she is. It could be this daughters baby or some other daughter to Ameia we don't know about who's the mama. One positive thing Ameia herself gave birth to a boy it means her milk are suited for boys. After a month the composition is 64.6 % fat, 1.8 % protein and 7.6 % sugar. Breast milk contains of a higher energy density for male infants than for female infants. If Ameia had a girl and the other was a boy it could be a problem. 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪

M L So interesting. How does nature know the sex of the baby? I’ve also wondered if a mum can tell a boy from a girl. It doesn’t seem a mum has the intellectual capacity to think & observe in those terms.
@PrimateProductions
@PrimateProductions 4 жыл бұрын
Though you are correct in that the composition of breast milk is slightly different in mothers who have a boy than for a girl it definitely does not cause any problems at all if are to nurse a female with "male" breast milk or a male with "female" breast milk as the difference is not significant and as far as the research has shown there is no difference in the needs of a male and female infant. Considering that macaque babies can be successfully reared on human infant formula which has a far greater difference in its composition than any type of macaque breast milk it is not a big deal at all and a female would have done perfectly fine if that was what she had adopted!!
@ML_SE
@ML_SE 4 жыл бұрын
@@PrimateProductions The milk fat for the Rhesus Macaque boys are much higher than for the girls but compared with milk for human babies it's just slightly more energetically dense than human milk but much less concentrated than milk from many other mammals. It's one of the reasons why rhesus macaque babies can survive given milk that is for human babies. Milk composition between and even within the same female rhesus macaque is not static. Total milk fat varies by maternal body mass and parity. Less obvious factors can also influence the milk fat. One other factor is the quality of and the amount of food a Rhesus Macaque mum eats. Another thing, hard to measure is the stress level differences monkeys live under because of social ranking can have on the milk. Studies have showed that Infants whose mothers had higher levels of milk energy soon after their birth coped more effectively (moved around more, explored more, ate and drank) and showed greater confidence (were more playful, curious and active). Infants whose mothers had lower milk energy had lower activity levels and were less confident when temporarily separated from their mother. So it's not only to survive the infancy the milk has importance over. So it's a big deal what kind of sex both the own and the adoptive baby have. For a less fed troop of monkeys this could mean survive, survive but starving or death. 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪

I am aware of one documented case of a macaque twin being born 24 hours later and I will look for it and provide a link. I do however think you are correct in that it is more likely that she picked up a baby that was abandoned by another female. It is fairly common for a first time young mom to sometimes do this. It is not super common for an unrelated female to adopt a baby like this but it definitely does happen when the situation is just right. Often it is the result of a mom who has just given birth and still has a lot of the hormones present that causes them to bond with an infant or in the case of a mom who has recently lost her own baby. Just an FYI for anyone who is interested....macaques having twins actually happens at about the same rate as it does for humans however very often the mom is not successful in rearing them both to an age of being independent. Circumstances have to be just right such as an abundance of food, stable living situation, etc. and the higher ranking the mom is the better the chances of the survival of both babies.

Human interférences and troops created of dumped pets with varying levels of trauma who have children of there own, and are harrassed by humans to treat their babies badly. Over time you have troops made up of ex youtube monkeys with trauma and psychological issues, wild born monkeys harassed, drugged the list goes on. Ameia will need all the extra goodies to keep producing enough milk for two-at least a couple hundred calories a day. I hope that her trusting nature does not cause her problems. Do we know what happened to the other Mum? The dark baby is enough smaller and less active that it must be younger. Ameia is pretty low ranking isn’t she? It is not good for Bright Boy to get more milk...if that is what happened. It looks as though Bright Boy is still on Ameia’s right nipple and did not move to the left when pushing for more room. I’m impressed with the car park troop....Ameia isn’t the only one that has adopted babes. Perhaps Pollux and Castor (the Gemini twins, who were half bothers) would be good names?

I believe these monkeys have some compassion. I wish the VOs in Cambodia would stop "rescuing". I think other troop member would eventually go see about a crying baby who's mum can no longer care for them. They'd probably adopt it. I quit watching those videos over 2 years ago because there is too much human interaction. They claim the mom is sick but you can tell she was poisoned because of her foamy mouth. They take the baby home and bath them with soap and do things to make them cry and spaz out. I saw one lady actually hit one on the head that make it cry , just before placing it in the water . They messed up editing that out . One day they they went to bath her and she wasn't crying enough so they took a cold water bottle out of a cooler type thing and poured it on her. It was horrible. Supposedly, WLA came to take her. I wish there was some way to show WLA those videos of her torture.

They used Betadine on her crushrd wrists and it is very drying so blood flow was stopped even more and she lost fingers. Jane had not had Janna yet, but was about to pop. Jane fed Janet and prople kept calling Janet mean because she was hurt snd wanted milk after Janna was born. The saga continues without me. It's obvious that the lighter one is hers. I doubt that she would have picked up the baby before hers was born. Plus watching other videos where this has happened, the adopted baby is more of a parasite and usually crowds out the natural born. Which we are also seeing in this video where it suckling 24/7. If she wasn't with the car park troupe would she have done it with her knowing that food was more scarce is the question.

@PrimateProductions
@PrimateProductions 4 жыл бұрын
I am not sure why you are saying that about the lighter hair baby being the third wheel here!! Though the darker baby seems to be staying on the nipple pretty much throughout the video it is not because the lighter baby is trying and not able to suckle he just seems to be more alert and looking around a lot more which it is completely understandable that the darker baby, after going through whatever trauma he did due to being abandoned, would be more likely to want to be attached and less likely to be looking about. If the lighter baby were trying to get access to the nipple and was unable then i could understand why you would think he was the third wheel but that is not the case at all. Matter of fact he actually pushes the smaller darker baby off the nipple at one point and that is not the case for him (he never has trouble attaching to the nipple when he tries). It is very common in cases of a macaque adopting a newborn while having her own newborn that the one that is her actual child will get the majority of the milk and you are correct in that it can be detrimental to the adopted baby.

It definitely could be that that is the case but it is not unsual for a first time young macaque mom to abandon their first baby.

I understand that they're all probably hungry but, that little monkey that has it's pouches FULL needs to back off. This Mom is eating for 3: herself & for 2 babies. She needs a lot of food to keep her milk up. Stop feeding greedy box & focus on Mom, please.

I haven’t gone back to see the video of Nora’s baby, but could this possibly be hers? That perhaps she put her down & Ameia is now caring for it? Regardless, she’s a good Mom that’s for sure. *EDIT The dates don’t fit. Oh well, it was a thought. LOL Thanks again JW*

I never said it's twins. And don't you agree that newborns need nutrition from milk, just the same way as you need oxygen from air, to survive?
@kiki29073
@kiki29073 2 жыл бұрын
@@JWmonkeyhill The other one takes from her baby. These mom's have a hard time feeding twins. There's only been a couple real ones to ever happen. Macaques are created to make twins. IDK where the other came from but she took it on and now has put her own at risk and not receiving it's full nutrition or care. Also I didn't say you said they were twins. I said the other one was the fake twin. You can always tell with these because the extra will be pushed off by the other and favored by the mother. It's lucky she lets it nurse period.
