The best way to make sure that a horse never becomes difficult to bridle is by ensuring that it won't have negative experiences related to the bit.

My horse had a negative experience when we send het to training as we were beginners. Now 5 years later my horse bridles herself i just have to hold the bit in the right position. She started brideling herself about 3,5 years ago.

My horse literally reaches for the bit, he almost puts his head down too much, but not quite! He’s a really good boy ❤

I absolutely love my horse for this reason. She's completely relaxed when I put the bit in, her head comes right across my chest and she just keeps it there until the bit is in.

my horses always resisted the bit and people told me to just put my whole finger into their mouth but that never worked for me. so, one day I tried putting the bit in front of their mouth and waited a minute and they both started taking to the bit much better. this is a great video but if this doesn't work for you and your horse try letting them put the bit in themselves.

The horse I work with has become A LOT better at this, but he's very tall and I'm... not lol. So when he was still learning to accept a bridle he would just hold his head up as high as he could and I couldn't reach him. It was a two-person job for a while lol. I would hold his bridle and I needed another person to coax him into lowering his head. He still gives me attitude about it sometimes, but luckily if I put my hand between his ears at the top of his poll, he lowers his head nicely lol

Dang I’m lucky. All I have to do is hold my bridle up to my horse and fix it up at her ears. She takes the bit for me. I think it’s because she knows that if she does it there is farrr less chance of her teeth being bumped. Best girl ever ❤ she’s in my profile pic btw

As my horse is so gentle, I don’t have to do this, she just takes the bit straight away and so gently, we are currently using a new bridle and bit to see how she likes it and so far so good, she’s actually way more relaxed with this new bit then her training bit tbh ^^

Very challenging w lesson horses who throw their head or keep their head high, as they deal w multiple riders who all approach them differently. Don't really have time built in to practice poll release / head drop w them. Any advice on that would be appreciated. Thank you!
@AmeliaNewcombDressage
@AmeliaNewcombDressage Жыл бұрын
Hello, Maybe you can try and fit in the poll release when you are grooming? Brush one side of the horse, ask for the head down a couple times before you go to the other side, brush their other side, ask for poll release again. That might be a good way to fit it in and have them ready for when you tack up. Hope that helps.

my horses tends to giraffe rising his head in the air. I feel like i need a step stool because im so short. The stuggle is my horse when he was a baby they ear twitched him so trying to put a halter on or bridle or anything with his ears. we can touch it and rub it but if we try to get a fly mask/halter/bridle and reins. He jerks his head up thinking it might hurt we have worked on this for 4 years now and he hasn't really over come that. not sure what to do.

How do you teach them?
@RidingWithHope
@RidingWithHope Жыл бұрын
You can teach them how by using pressure and release. Press gently on their poll until they drop, even if it is barely noticeable, and immediately release and maybe even give them a pat or a treat if that is how they learn well. If your horse pulls up against the pressure, just keep that gentle pressure there till they give to it. Don’t add any pressure if they aren’t responding, just be patient and wait. I hope this helps!!

Also I like to focus on not poking their eyes either with the halter or the bridle.... the knotted rope halters are particularly probematic for some ppl to keep away from the eyes especially if they are used on multiple horses or if they arent specifically fitted to that horse. I hate watching halters, ropes and knots in horses eyes!

if you need a step stool to bridle your horse you shouldn’t be riding. go back to basics and work on groundwork/ establishing connection and then mutual respect/understanding. connection before concept

@@AmeliaNewcombDressage i agree, and from my experience when you have a connection and mutual respect with the horse they naturally want to as well because they’re excited for a ride. to me if a horse is evading you tacking them, esp with a bridle there might be another issue, like they don’t enjoy riding with you because you’re harsh on the bit, u just hop on them and treat em like machinery, you don’t make it fun or balance out the work and the play etc.
@younot6921

sometimes they’re just not in the mood too and that’s okay. sometimes i come out with the intention to ride but their vibe is just not about it, it’s a much needed lazy day and that’s okay too *
