The Thompson Twins are bound to make noise in the 2023 Draft but it's only right they get their shine as individuals. Amen Thompson is not only one of the best pre-NBA athletes we've seen but also a naturally gifted playmaker with the tools to be high impact defensively. That combination makes him one of the most heralded '23 prospects heading into the fall.
Correction on the Vitals!!: OTE officials are 6'7" 199 with a 6'9 Wingspan

His playmaking and passing ability is unreal. Like you said, some of those angles are things we almost never see. His creativity reminds me of giddey and they’re similar sized too with awful jump shots haha. I don’t think he’s quite on giddey’s level yet in terms of feel for the game and high level playmaking, but he’s shown flashes and that combined with crazy athleticism can be a deadly combo, especially at his size

The potential is through the roof! Two 6'7 PGs who can pass, dunk on everyone and defend all like 4 positions? crazy! Reminds me of Dejuante Murray but with a stronger, bigger body.

After your first scouting look of the top prospects, I would love to see a video where you mock draft just the top 10 or so and tell us where you would have took them in this years draft if you could have a year early. Most of us know your the best what you do and I personally would love to see how you would stack the incoming class when compared to the draft we just had. Great video as always and I hope you expand your content if you have the time.

Amen is good on this level but his funky, bad shooting mechanics will put a cap on his upside because he's not a good 3-point shooter at this stage which is fine but his horrible FT% really let me know he has a TON of work to do with regards to his shooting.
@HoopIntellect
@HoopIntellect Жыл бұрын
Don't blame you for being skeptical but it is still very early. At this stage I'm still very high on his potential. If he takes some steps in the right direction as a shooter he'll likely stay in that area for me. But you're right, if not, which is a definite possibility (shot needs some real TLC) I'd guess it's more late lottery for him, but they're far from finished products!

@@coreyt1217 You can become a better shooter but I'm looking at his base. It's flawed at his best which isn't as easy to correct as his actual shot mechanics because to change your base you are literally changing your whole balance as a player. It should've been correct a long time ago and any basketball player or pundit will tell you that FT% is the true measure of shooting and touch. If he shot like 73% from the FT line then I'd be like ok, his 3P% is an aberration. But he doesn't make 3's or his FTs. Obviously, he's young and has plenty of time to improve though.

Bro if this kid has the right mentality and drive, he'll be a perennial All-Star in the NBA. He is insanely gifted! He needs to work on his jumpshot (both pullup mid and 3) and on his free throws. Basically his entire shooting mechanic. He just has to put in that work to rise above the rest.

Can’t wait for the Ausar Thompson breakdown to come out. These twins are the real deal. And Ausar, being a 6’8 guard/wing, with a 7’1 wingspan, elite athleticism (44 inch vertical), and more shooting and defensive potential than his brother just shows how he crazy of a prospect he is💯
@mrvk39
@mrvk39 Жыл бұрын
who would you pick between the two? I am not sure I saw any more potential as a shooter in one vs the other OR difference in size. But one is more of a scorer and maybe a shade better defender and the other a passer.
@famousxji1852
@famousxji1852 Жыл бұрын
@@mrvk39 if you want a transcendent point guard, with elite talent in all aspects (apart from shooting), to build around, that could switch to the 2 occasionally, then I would go with Amen. His passing ability and point guards skills slightly outranks Ausar. Yet, The wing is the most important position in basketball today. So, if you a wing with 3-Level Scoring upside, slightly taller and longer, and has the potential to guard almost every position and block a crazy amount of shots. Then I would take Ausar. Nevertheless, you could pick either because they’re both can’t miss talent💯

I really hope the Rockets draft him with the 4th pick, Amen Thompson and Jalen Green in the backcourt would be explosive, I’d love to see them both weaponize their size and athleticism cutting off ball when Sengun is running the show, Jabari Smith spreading the floor.. Amen is a great passer, he can get plenty of on ball reps too and hopefully he keeps working on his jumpshot, let Jalen be more of the scorer he naturally is

my question for him as a defender is how he can deal with bigger defenders and better ball handlers some of the plays he made on defense were assisted on because the players lost the ball and the points and twos in the league aren't going to lose the ball as much and are bigger in the league. I hope these twins do good because they seem like they have the talent

Wow! I was really impressed with Amen, more so than with Scoot. He’s got a unique skill set that I can’t recall seeing from a prospect in some time. I hope it’s not the lower competition making him look better than he is. I worry some of those passes would be picked off in a better league. I would love to hear more about these prospects effort levels overall. Fighting through screens and defensive wise especially. Effort is such a large indicator of these incoming prospects defensive potential. Anyways Great Video!

the ft shooting is concerning i think, but just fixing that shot is all it takes for both of them to be possible two-way stars. also theyll both be 20 at draft day which is the same as cade, evan, scottie, etc.

@@HoopIntellect oh my bad you're right. usually i just look at how old they turn in the draft year, i don't think little differences in months should make much of a difference. just something that irks me about prospect evaluation lol not talking about anything you're saying though, you're doing great.

For me... both of the Thompson twins have the biggest ceiling:floor gap in the draft, and probably the biggest in most recent years. I agree with the athleticism, and playmaking. There's no denying it. However, if you're a team you need to considering: how quickly can we develop him? The offense they run at OTE is pure isolation ball with nothing more except a screen for the PNR or an off-ball screen for the shooter, so it'll take time to learn an NBA offense. On top of that, the majority of his shots come from around the rim, and while his athleticism helps, he hasn't seen quality defensive players or people as big as NBA players, so there's gonna be a learning gap. I think right now... his best bet to immediately impact the league is to come off the bench. He's not ready to be an NBA point guard.

Personally I think amen could possibly go number 1 2or three the reason I say that is because he’s a really good passer Plus already being a scoring first type of player what separates him if his versatility on defense he 67 with elite athleticism think Andrew Wiggins can guard 1-4 Victor and scoot both have a limitation on the defensive ends i’m telling you guys don’t be surprised if he’s the number two pick maybe even 1…

It's a much different concern between him and Scoot. Scoot is an excellent mid range & free throw shooter. Amen is more of a work in progress. But at 18/19 years old it's part of it. We can go down the line of guys who were bad shooters and became servicable and with the other things they bring to the game it's something you're willing to bet on. Now it'll definitely determine whether or not that means top 5 or top 15 based on this year but no one's a finished product! Scottie Barnes just went 4th. Josh Giddey 6th. Dyson Daniels 8th. RJ Barrett 3rd and so on!

I don't like the fact he chose to seek weaker competition. That is a red flag. Twins needed to go to G league, college, or Europe. Already shot is shaky as evidence by 56% FT shooting. I won't say the twins can't be good or even great NBA players but it's a tremendous risk to take either of them in the top 5. I hope the best for both of them. Let's see what happens.
