In this video, I have discussed Amendment of the Constitution of India (Constitutional Amendment). Indian Polity Laxmikanth Lecture 20.

In total I have covered the following 23 Constitutional Amendments
1st and 7th Amendment;
10th, 12th, 13th and 14th Amendment;
22nd and 24th Amendment;
36th, 38th and 39th Amendment;
42nd and 44th Amendment;
52nd and 61st Amendment;
73rd and 74th Amendment;
86th Amendment
93rd and 99th Amendment;
101st, 102nd and 103rd Amendment.
1st Amendment, 1951: Article 19(2) - Insertion of new restrictions-
Also added the word reasonable. Inserted 9th schedule to advance Abolition of zamindari system. Also added Article 15(4) - to empower the state to make special provisions for the advancement of socially and economically backward class.
7th Amendment, 1956: Reorganising state boundaries on linguistic bases.
24th Amendment, 1971: Added Article 13(4) and Article 368(3) - To provide parliament to amend any part of the constitution expressly. Made it compulsory for President to give his assent to Constitutional Amendment Bill.
38th Amendment and 39th Amendment mainly relates to Emergency Provisions
42nd Amendment - The most Controversial and Debatable Amendment of the Indian Constitution. Added the following words in the Preamble - Socialist, Secular and Integrity.
Added Part IV A - Fundamental Duties and Part XIV A
Added provisions relating to administrative tribunal and tribunal for other matters.
Article 83- Amended, raised the tenure of Lok Sabha from 5 years to 6 years. Article 368(4) also added.
44th Amendment, 1978 - 42nd Amendment- sections 18, 19, 21, 22, 31, 32, 34, 35, 58 and 59 shall be omitted. Article 352- Substituted the term “internal disturbance” by “armed rebellion”.
86th Amendment, 2002 - Article 21A- Added Right to education as a fundamental right. Article 45- Changed the subject matter and imposed responsibility to provide earlier childhood care and education. Article 51A- New fundamental duty added relating to education.
93rd Amendment, 2005 - Article 15(5)- Added, empowers the state to make special provisions for the socially and educationally backward class or the SC/ST in educational institution including unaided private educational institution except for the minority institutions.
103rd Amendment, 2019 - Reservation to General Category - Article 15(6) and Article 16(6)- Inserted to provide 10% reservation in central government jobs and government educational institutions, to economically backward section of General Category.
