All of this is incredibly well observed and articulated by Hilary... per usual. I'm more of a fusion/rock musician but her assessment stands in our genres as well. And I LOVE the Edgar Meyer concerto recorded by her. Going to see Edgar in a few days actually and I'm eager for when Hilary's healed and back to performing.

I am a German musician. When I got to hear church music in the USA, I was "surprised" HOW different it was to what I had been used to. Well, should have been obvious, but I was pretty young then....For me it was somewhat "strange" and difficult to understand. at first. What Hilary talks about, I can agree: feeling of rhythm, the phrasing and the sound of the music of the "New World(and beyond)"have a lot to do with how American musicians play their music and how it sounds with "us" playing it. My teacher in Paris though once said, when I was struggeling with a Mexican piece of music and failed, me saying, that I am not Mexican, he said, but you "are capable of feeling it". Right so

Meyer's vc is the most beautiful vc that she did recorded, along with Elgar's and Sibelius... Spohr's beautiful too.

That’s a fascinating articulation of national “sounds”, as it relates to vowels and consonants in the language or local accents. It’s one of those things that’s so hard to describe and yet you know it when you’re hearing it.

When I listen, more often I hear generational differences especially from historical recordings. New York has always enjoyed an international population of professional musicians. The musical boundaries transcend. Sometimes it is difficult to tell where the "Old World" sound stops and the "New World" sound begins because of training, geographic displacement or phrasing. But always, the best sound is elevated by individual talent and how the soul speaks. It is not bound by geography. It is a matter of listening to how a particular era articulates its message. The greatest music transcends time and geography.

Хилари прекрассный музыкант, музыкан Мира. Мне кажется, она может сыграть любую музыку, любой страны, любого народа таким образом, что представители этого народа будут воспринимать её исполнение, как исполнение своей соотечественницы. Во всяком случае я чувствую именно это, когда она играет произведения русских композиторов. Это сложно сделать. Разница всегда слышна, хотя технически всё может быть исполнено, безупречно .( Согласен с размышлениями Хилари, на сколько я их понял, но она выше этого)
