When Dewey Bunnell was in 8th grade at Eastcote Elementary School in west London I was in 7th grade. I did not know him, but my older brother did (he was in his class). As these guys got together (at Central High School in Bushey Park, west London) they did not want the folks back home to think they were “just another British group”. They thought and thought, and thought….what can they call themselves and not have everyone think we’re British. OH!! I know! Let’s call ourselves “America”!! True story!

Wow Brother SO sorry for your loss - by Gods grace & strength of Jesus - you can persevere. I also lost my wife Sheri to liver & breast cancer 3 years back - after 32 years of genuine love together - we never saw this chapter coming - but God did. Btw, my wife was Sheri Lynn lol & introduced me to America - I had overlooked them - but we listened long to their CDs - our favs being them, Chicago, Sweet Comfort band & David Meece. (As am aside, did you know Dan Peek - 1/3 of America - did several excellent Christian Solo albums circa 1985-2000-ish ?) This does bring back great memories ! Wishing that gratitude & great memories & expectation of reunion day replace your sorrow, in Jesus name. David in Texas

I was like 6 years old and we were on a road trip cross country in our new station wagon. The back had a partition and a seat that faced backwards and it’s own stereo w 8track player that I had all to myself. We stopped at a record store on the way out of town and I got to buy three 8tracks. I bought America greatest hits because they were like the first ones on the shelf and there were dozens of them and I had no idea what to buy lol. Anyway, I listened to that tape at least a dozen times on that trip and when I got home the couple that lived behind us was over and asked me about how I liked the trip. All I talked about was my new favorite tape and they said “play it for us”. So I did and the guy called Phil was like “ you’ve good taste” and all that and questioned why I liked it - whether the singing or the words or what- and I said the parts where it’s mostly guitar sound. A couple days later there appears a guitar case in my room with a note on it from Phil and it says “this was my first guitar and I want to loan it to you. Please don’t play it until you stop by and I can show you how to care for it and play like America does”. And that is how I got free guitar lessons and learned to play by age 7. We need more Phil’s in the wolrd and bands like America. This is so damn nostalgic for me, I hope no one wasted time with me rambling but if you did, give someone the gift of music if yiu ever have a chance.
