My Grandmother took me to the Shedd Aquarium 65 years ago. It has changed, it is still as impressive today as it was 65 years ago. Great video, you do a great professionally personal job.

What I like about Shedd Aquarium is that they've managed to expand and modernize the building while preserving much of its interior space - unlike, say, the Adler Planetarium, which has been gutted on the inside and has lost all of its original charm. My daughter loves going to the Shedd so much that we've started purchasing a yearly membership so we can afford to go several times a year. (An adult single-day ticket can cost about $35 to $45, depending on the date.)

That's awesome! You can tell they've certainly put a lot of hard work into it. If I lived in the area I would totally be purchasing a yearly pass too

Kaity, huge fan here. At 2:15 you say that the fly river turtle is the only type of freshwater turtle that doesn't need to exit the water. There are actually a few other species of fresh water turtles that are like this. The mata mata turtle from South America comes to mind immediately but there are a few other examples as well. Anyway, keep up the great videos please! I look forward to them

Hi Kaity, I live on Lake Michigan and to answer question about sea lamprey. Yes they are common but you would never see them at a beach or river they are mostly found on large salmon and trout that are caught deep in the great lakes. Once they attach, they don’t let go either unless the fish dies so it’s not like there are a lot of them just swimming around.
@Kaityscichlids Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the information!! I was imagining swimming in the lake then having one attach to your leg 😳 So that's good to know they are only in the deep. They are the stuff of nightmares for those fish though!

Its cool to see someone learn about the great lakes since I've lived near 2 of them my entire life. They really are like freshwater beaches! Beautiful in the summer time and you can see all kinds of cool freshwater fish if you know where to look. Speaking of invasive species, there are some strips of beaches that are littered with probably billions of zebra mussel shells. Somehow I've gone my entire life without knowing about the lampreys in the great lakes. I seriously thought they were only saltwater fish so its really interesting to learn something new!

I grew up on Lake Erie, but never saw any Lamprey Eel's. The first time I saw a Lamprey Eel was in northern Germany at a fish market. They were smoked with skin and head still on...3 or 4 old German Men were sitting at a table out front of the market eating them with their fingers like chicken and drinking Beer 🤢. There was a massive amount of Carp in the rivers and streams along the Lake and the local commercial fisheries would catch tons of them which would be sent to New England where most would be pickled and jarred from what I was told. My German Wife told me pickled Carp was delicious🤢, but I mostly ate the Walleye & Perch from the Lake 😃.

As far as I'm aware koi/ghost are essentially line bred king carp which in turn are line bred wild carp. The Japanese bred the koi for its colour and European monks developed common, mirror and eventually leather carp for food, increasing their size, then scale size, then scale density. Culminating in the leather carp a 60lb scale-less mud pig, but essentially the same species as the koi. Some of the European King carp (usually mirrors) get over 100lb, 45kg.
