Most aquarium clubs will have auctions generally at each monthly meeting there might be a few limited items for sale. Additionally most aquarium clubs will have a major auction combined with a fish show on a yearly basis and this is when some great deals can be had on equipment, accessories and fish. The fish that are up for auction will be locally raised so they are already accustomed to the water conditions in your area and often the fish will be something that is quite rare in the hobby.

@@Kaityscichlids peppermints and starlights are both gorgeous fish. Only difference is the starlights keep the white stripe at the end of their tales and fins unlike the peppermints which lose them as they get older, but I believe the starlight’s are a lot more rare and also way more expensive. I need to find a couple more peppermints to go with mine so I have more genetic diversity for when they breed. Also having caves are great even if you aren’t intending on breeding them as they like a place to rest at daytime to hide away from the lights if they are too bright.

Instead we have aquarien exhibitions which last longest a weekend. On those places you can buy mostly things for hardscape not fishes. Selling fish at exhibitions is seen here very critical, because the transportation of fish to those places is really stressful for the animals. i hope you can understand what i mean, i knew, my english is very bad. sincerely Achim

Do you have fish swaps/shows where breeders just set up a table with what they want to sell to the public and people just walk around buying and trading in Australia?

Not that I know of! However someone else might be able to answer that better than me, as I didn't even know about the auctions until recently

@@Kaityscichlids Auctions might bring more money, but going until after midnight is crazy.

We have markets where people do what you describe, but I don’t think I’ve seen people sell fish. I’ve seen people sell plants (aquatic sometimes), chickens, and pet products (mostly dogs/cat). I do think we do, but very rarely because market environment is very stressful, hot, etc… This is my experience, but we probably do have fish swaps/shows - I probably just haven’t seen them yet

How do we find out when and where these auctions are on Kaity?
@Kaityscichlids2 жыл бұрын
There is a page called Qld Cichlid Group Inc on Facebook and I'm pretty sure they post all of their events on there 😊
