For a lot of us, people like John McArthur, it’s not about worshiping the man. It’s about appreciating someone who walks in humility and listening to preachers that preach the word as is. It’s refreshing to listen to preachers that recognize they need Jesus just as much as the people in their congregation and these are the preachers that God has exalted because they brought themselves low. We listen to these preachers because they preach truth in humility and we are hungry for God’s word presented in all its glory. It’s about what they say, not about who they are. They are simply messengers.

The fact you would name John MacArthur with this other clowns is unbelievably disrespectful and simply ignorant of who he is
@PastorJeremyCollins5 ай бұрын
This video is not about him, or his theology. It is about the people who make these mega pastors famous. Who some of which border on an unhealthy following of said teacher. He is in the video to show this isn’t just a theology problem, that obsession of these pastors crosses doctrinal lines. And the 3 quotes specifically in the video show that.
@GordonA-Jr5 ай бұрын
@@PastorJeremyCollins there’s a massively significant difference between why he is more “famous” than this others and that needs to be brought out if you’re going to mention his name along with them

@@PastorJeremyCollins for you to high jack comments from Steve Lawson and Justin Peters in regards to MacArthur’s to bolster your point is ridiculous. It is natural and biblical to have a deep love, affection and admiration for a man or men who has been faithful for 55 yrs of public ministry. Who has earned to respect of thousands world wide because of his faithful stand for truth. 1 Thessalonians 5:13- and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Among other passages that indicate the same. To toss MacArthur in with Creflo and Osteen and the like, shame on you!!!

The fact that you’re so mad about it shows that you really needed to watch and rewatch this video. A celebrity pastor is a celebrity pastor, the same issues arise from worship of mere men.

Churches are meant to be led by a plural leadership - Elders supported by Deacons. The idea of a 'Pastor' in the American Baptist scene is totally unbiblical.

This was well done! So many times we can get caught up in the celebrity pastor and have them so high on a pedestal that if anyone criticizes them, they’re defended like they are Christ Himself and they clearly are not (sorry for the run on sentence). The way that we defend them and “glorify” them can be the same way that if they were to do something terrible such as leave the faith, it could possibly affect us negatively as well! Only God deserves that praise. Great video man🙏🏾

they are obsessed with celebrity because the world is obsessed with it; and as carnal believers, if even born again, they follow the world. such persons, and i have been there for i am carnal in my own way, do NOT know the Lord. We may be born again but knowing Him is the mark of the mature believer not the carnal; and these poor people only show their carnality. and as repentance is the way the Lord the Spirit leads us to maturity though this obsession really should stop, it will not for repentance is neither preached nor practised in their churches and even where it is done it is usually the legalistic counterfeit

Also, it is interesting to see this on a smaller scale. This happens all the time in small churches where a long serving Pastor can develop a following. Even if that wasn’t their intention. And on the other side of it, budding large churches that follow the megachurch playbook, where the lead pastor has a minimal relationship with the congregation he is serving. It’s weird. People are weird.

people following pastors? sheep without a shepherd DESPERATE for someone to follow, and this is, well, because we are made to be followers - but only followers of CHRIST the living Person and not the church construct. that they are idolators worshiping their pastors shows that they have already denied Christ by forsaking Him and so are sheep without a shepherd even if some of them might be born again

Not surprised by this. Hollywood culture, the music industry and television stars all swirl around us. North American culture is heavily geared towards a high public culture. Look also at the fame of athletes outside of the sports. This is more of an American problem due to the issue of fame and that it’s considered a highly sought after career path. Some become pastors and then they go to write books that become NYT best sellers(on how to become successful and speak your success into existence lol). I do think you are absolutely right. It’s also a huge issue because it’s seemingly how North American culture is built right now, on us being obsessive over celebrity. Take note of the toxic “fan culture” of musicians. They know more about Ariana grande or Olivia Rodrigo’s personal life than their own families. Idolatry is a bit more of a pressing issue in North America than perhaps other countries right now.

I agree with God being the only thing that needs to be worshipped, but I really don't think John MacArthur should be lumped in with the rest of these "pastors"you've mentioned here. He is nothing like them and they are nothing like him.

Because jmac is not a god, and he is a celebrity pastor in the same vein as others. One of my former pastors was gushing over seeing jmac - “I was close enough to touch his jacket!!” Ok buddy. Check yourself before you wreck yourself, i thought at the time. Welp he did wreck himself. Blew up his church with favouritism, arrogance and narcissistic tendencies, ran away and now lying to others about it. Anyone who closely follows John MacArthur, in my experience, ends up either becoming a sycophant or losing their faith somewhere along the way.
