America's Test Kitchen is a real 2,500 square foot test kitchen located just outside of Boston that is home to more than three dozen full-time cooks and product testers. Our mission is simple: to develop the absolute best recipes for all of your favorite foods. To do this, we test each recipe 30, 40, sometimes as many as 70 times, until we arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most-foolproof recipe.
Each week, the cast of America's Test Kitchen brings the recipes, testings, and tastings from Cook's Illustrated magazine to life on our public television series. With more than 2 million viewers per episode, we are the most-watched cooking show on public television.

More than 1.3 million home cooks rely on Cook's Illustrated and Cook's Country magazines to provide trusted recipes that work, honest ratings of equipment and supermarket ingredients, and kitchen tips.

These are so much better than the cardboard tasting store-bought - unless you want to spend a fortune. Thanks so much for the great demonstration of making the cone 'coolers'. I'm sure to break at least the first one...

You can also use a cup to shape the cookie for a more rustic look. The cookie goes inside the cup and you fold it gently so that it fits.

Also, you can use a smaller cookie on the underside of a slightly greased muffin tin to form bowls.

Took 5 mins to make the batter, then used a waffle iron to cook them. Didn't bother with the cone shape. Anyone saying that it's to time consuming is full of crap. If you have time to watch youtube videos you have 10 mins to make these. Lazy people these days

Amanda Coello; yes to gluten free version. Use Google to find a recipe but the technique is the same. Most recipes will use almond flour which tastes miles better anyway!Good luck! X

I always love the idea of skipping the grocery store and being able to make things myself but I didn't hear you mention anything about pinching the tip of the come to avoid leakage. Is this a necessary step or does it get rolled tight enough so there will be no leaks?

Wouldn't it make sense to crimp the bottoms before they set so nothing drips out? Or would that not work?

correct me if I am wrong but if you made these just a long rectangle and cut kind of a zig zag down the length of it, the cones would have a slightly flatter top to them.

If the cookies harden after taking them out of the oven then use two trays. Take one tray out, fold the cookies, then take out the next tray and fold those cookies.

Excellent advice to someone who is allergic to gluten. If you can't be helpful, why not just not reply? I have bought gluten-free ice cream cones, before. They're expensive and I'd prefer a home-made version. Really, there was no reason to be so rude. It was a reasonable question, I'm not the only person who is allergic to gluten in this world, can't be the only person who has wondered. No reason to reply if you can't be kind.

it might work better to spread the regular cookie dough on parchment lines cones and bake it that way. Then just pull the parchment and the cone will release.

No help, non-gluten flour has a different absorption rate for liquids, you can't just plug in non-GF stuff. Thanks, though.

I made this recipe today and used my waffle cone maker. Every single one of them burned. I think the high sugar content is the problem. It's a very tasty and crispy cookie batter but it just didn't work in my machine. :(

Both have their purpose. For cooking, especially baking, unsalted lets you totally control the salt content. For normal use (toast, popcorn, etc), salted is the way to go for flavor.
