I too heard this in Utica, NY with the Utica Symphony Orchestra. Awesome concert, standing room only.....a truly amazing experience to hear them. I hope they play in the area again. I will be there.

They just performed this song at a great concert in Utica NY along with the Utica Symphony Orchestra. Man... they are still outstanding! Sounded great, looked great, and played for 3 hours. What a great band. And this song says it all. Way to go Chicago. Love you guys and can't wait to see you again.

Very Good Song! With Great Lead Vocal By Lou Pardini Good Job Chicago
@gregstegeman710210 жыл бұрын
That's Lou Pardini (Bill Champlin's replacement) singing lead on Lee Loughnane's composition. I assume Pankow wrote the horn chart. Sounds pretty relevant to me, musically and otherwise. What other band this long in the tooth sounds this good?

Nice job Chicago! I love the lyrics and the video. I've been a fan since I was a little girl back in the '70's and in my opinion, you guys get better and better with time. Working and living abroad here in Thailand for the last six months, I am finding that there are many things that I appreciate about our country and, yet at the same time, realizing that the American government is in need of much prayer and many changes. Unfortunately, our country began it's downhill slide long ago when God was removed from government and although it will never be the same America it once was, I still believe it takes all of us to make our country great! :)

Actually, separation of church and state is one of the founding principles of the United States.
@thatMimosaGrove8 жыл бұрын
No, not actually. The phrase "separation of church and state" appears in none of America's official founding documents.
@katemaloney42967 жыл бұрын
Actually, Gabriel, there is nothing in the Constitution regarding the "separation of Church FROM State"; it was mentioned in a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to a friend AFTER the Constitution was ratified. The ONE thing the Founding Fathers did not want, was a state-sponsored religion (i.e. England and the Church of England; Italy and the Vatican; Saudi Arabia and Islam). Here is the FULL quote: "First Amendment - Religion and Expression. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." So, when the ACLU petitions against school prayer or prayer at commencement ceremonies because it violates "the separation of Church and State".... Well, first, they have it WRONG; and second, by shutting down prayer, THEY are violating the First Amendment. Now THAT is the definition of ironic. Now go bitch out your Civics teacher and then go pick up a copy of the Constitution.
@thatMimosaGrove7 жыл бұрын
+Kate Maloney HOW RIGHT YOU ARE! And in his 1802 letter, as well as on numerous other occasions, Jefferson made clear that the "wall of separation" he spoke of was erected not to limit public religious expressions (such as prayer in public schools, governmental meetings, courts, etc.) but rather to make sure the government could NOT INTERFERE with those expressions. The courts frequently cited Jefferson's letter and affirmed this meaning of the First Amendment for the next century and a half. But in 1947 the Supreme Court for the first time interpreted the "separation" phrase as requiring the federal government to remove religious expressions from the public arena-exactly the OPPOSITE of Jefferson's clear intent! This bad ruling started a domino chain of bad rulings that has brought us to the present day.

Once again, Chicago nails it with great timing and a very timely song. The release of this song and video pretty much sums up the insanity happening in DC right now. Nice work and timing Lee Loughnane! Robert Lamm did it in 1971 with "A Song For Richard and His Friends." Within 2 years, Nixon's corrupt world began to crumble and in 3 years, he was out as President. Lee and Robert; do you have crystal balls for predicting the future on your tour bus? Nice timing once again with a great song!

From the very beginnings of Chicago Transit Authority, many of Bobby Lamm's songs were political, especially during the Vietnam era when he was unabashedly anti-war and anti-Nixon. He's used to taking flak like yours.
@thatMimosaGrove8 жыл бұрын
+funch357 Ah, yes. Chicago was indeed a part of the counterculture movement that derailed a U.S. victory in Vietnam. Shameful, as far as I'm concerned. But I like the band they became afterwards in the late '70s and early '80s. And I do like this song. In fact, it's the first song in my 4th of July playlist.

Chicago needs to kiss and make up with Pete Cetera, and Danny Sarphine......and lets get the real SHOW on the road ! ! !
@katemaloney42967 жыл бұрын
It's PETER, not Pete. And for the record, Peter has made it clear that he has NO desire to rejoin---even for one tour (although he did try to rejoin for the RRHOF show, but the guys refused to change the key for 25 or 6 to 4 to accommodate Peter's voice; talks broke down, the group refused to budge, and Peter backed out and went out on a pre-scheduled tour)---the group he left behind 32 years ago. As he has stated many times: "Rejoining [Chicago] is like dating your ex after the divorce has been finalized." As for Danny.... After the way Bobby Lamm bad mouthed Danny and his group California Transit Authority and called them a "cover band" playing oldies because they have no new material, and basically called them average and riding on Chicago's coat-tails, I don't see them getting back together. Peter was the driving force behind Danny and Bill burying the hatchet and touring together--Peter has even joined them a few times. But the blood is bad, and considering they fired Jason Scheff after 30 years.... We might be getting a Chicago reunion, but just not the way we were expecting.

The early part of the guitar on the song could be Terry Kath, Keith Howland is a fine replacement indeed. It's catchy but the lyrics are too broad for the message they are trying to promote. The Tea Party could easily pick this up and make it their anthem which would be horrid.
@thatMimosaGrove9 жыл бұрын
spannamatronic So just what message do you think the band is trying to promote that these lyrics are too broad for, hm? It amazes me how anyone can rag on Tea Partyers. They are precisely the good, decent, peaceful, respectful, fair, law-abiding, hard working, salt-of-the-earth types that make America great.
@spannamatronic9 жыл бұрын
thatMimosaGrove Well I'm British and the Tea Party and Sarah Palin and their ilk are a laughing stock over here. The protection of our NHS was a major issue in the recent elections here - the idea of people from every walk of life not being able to access vital healthcare is baffling to us.
@thatMimosaGrove9 жыл бұрын
spannamatronic You're not suggesting health care is a human right, are you?
@spannamatronic9 жыл бұрын
thatMimosaGrove Pretty much. Universal healthcare is so ingrained into British and European culture that I couldn't imagine it any other way.
@thatMimosaGrove9 жыл бұрын
spannamatronic Well, my friend, I'm afraid that outlook is the source of the problem. Too many Britons and Europeans (and now Americans)have grown accustomed to viewing health care as a human right rather than a good. But health care is logically NOT a human right and to try (however well-intentioned) to make it one is a colossal folly that will ultimately hurt everyone. It will also hasten the demise of free nations, which is the bigger reason certain people favor it. I'm saddened that just today our Supreme Court ruled again in favor of the so-called Affordable Care Act. I'm glad at least that Chicago did not mention this issue specifically in their lyrics. I like this song even though I find it monotonic. I wish more musical artists would write and record original patriotic songs and songs about democracy and freedom.
@jaymorin71319 жыл бұрын
Had the song been produced to have a sound closer to "State of the Union" or "Harry Truman" it would kick-ass. It is missing the brightness of the past and the ebb and flow of the dynamics. It probably sounds 100x better in concert.

Why can't Chicago go back to what they do best: 80'sPower Ballads!
@katemaloney42967 жыл бұрын
Because their egos are so massive that they pretty much alienate every producer they work with. They bad mouthed David Foster (who breathed life back in to them and helped negotiate the MASSIVE record deal with Warner Bros. in 1981) and demanded to know what right he had to think he was "all that". DF replied that the numerous Grammys he's won gave him that right.

I'm a dedicated fan of the early work of Chicago but I'm sorry, this is trite. In fact, It's the very definition of trite. Trite, worn out by use, overused, and consequently of little import; lacking originality or freshness. lacking in freshness or effectiveness because of constant use or excessive repetition; hackneyed; stale. AND they can even be used by the side that is obviously the problem.. And there is one side that is the problem. There's no equivalency. If you're not going to make clear which side of the fight you are on can just stay out of it. "Go all in with no hesitation Let's not shy away from what's right Let's not shy away from the fight" Those words sound like the words being spoken by those inciting the riot on the morning of January 6th.
