America was a band of three army brats who’s parents were stationed in England, in the late ‘60’s. They were signed by Apple Records and produced by George Martin. So yeah, Ventura Highway has always been one of my favorite songs of all time. In his song, the conversation with “Joe” was a family friend at the time when they lived in the Midwest and his father was being deployed to Southern California. He was trying to talk joe into going with them and moving out to California. Joe, being hit by “purple rain,” was a euphemism for depression or the blues. Most of the lyrics in the song were based on actually events of Dewey’s childhood.

I've loved America, the country, from the day I was born here in 1949, and always loved America, the band, since 1972 when they released their first hit single, "A Horse With No Name". A truly great band worthy of the name, "AMERICA". One of my favorite tunes is: "You Can Do Magic".

I remember seeing America perform live at Disneyland back in the 70's. The best music came out of the 70's with some of the greatest bands. Our kids generation of the 80's and 90's truly missed out on growing up with this music!

I was born in 1961 and I have been playing and singing this magical song since 1978 (I didn't know America before). This is MY SONG, in all its versions. I went to see America in 1985 at the Smeraldo in Milan and I noticed, with great pleasure, that my way of playing it (with the 12 strings) is identical. Even today, my heart trembles when I hear it. I love you!🥰

I had the good fortune to see them in concert back around this time, I also got to see them about five years ago again. They are a timeless band that had so many hits, you just sit their with your jaw dropped as they go from one hit to another, to another.. One of the best groups in the world to see in concert! If they ever come your way, go see them, you won't be disappointed.

@@georgieporgie6103 It was truly a great time for concerts. Those years had problems though, just like today. Gas lines, gas prices through the roof. We were shocked when gas got up to 35 cents a gallon! LOL. Look at us now! Still there was an innocence about those years, and the music was just amazing.

@@kadj1016 Haha! America still sounds great today, I just wish I could've seen them young. I also would've loved to see the Woodstock concert, but that was technically the 60s :)
