Күн бұрын

In this 4x4 video we have two iconic American trucks battle it out at Wheeny Creek aka Gees Arms South Trail. These two beasts of the 4x4 world go head to head choosing the most difficult lines and in some cases opening up new lines.
Both the Hummer H1 and Jeep Wrangler JK are both running Nitto tyres. The Hummer is sporting 40 inch Nitto Trail Grappler tires while the Jeep Wrangler is running 37 inch Nitto Mud Grapplers tyres.
The Hummer H1 is pretty much a standard 1996 model with some Alpha bits and pieces. the 40 inch tyres fit with no lift. Its still running the standard Torsen Diffs. It has a custom made front swing down bar with a Warn high mount winch.
The Jeep Wrangler JK 2 door is sitting on a 3 inch lift and is twin locked with ARB air lockers. The front has a Dana 44 diff and the rear is a Dana 60 high clearance unit.
Both trucks performed exceptionally well. We had a blast of a day and hope you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed the trip. Be sure to subscribe for more 4x4 videos and feel free to comment and share. Dont forget to give us a thumbs up if you liked the video.

Put same tires..... same weight load ratio... and same driver expertise behind the wheel, that would make it a fair competition... otherwise this becomes a dick measuring contest in which no one wins as both are tiny ;) thanks sharing!

@@seanmares2406 The Gleason Torsen, being a limited slip, is great for high speed traction on terrain like dunes and maintaining normal steering/handling characteristics. In more technical terrain where wheels lose contact, it requires constant brake input to manage wheel spin, there's still always going to be some, and not as good as fully locking diffs on rock crawling. The other problem H1s have is the independent suspension, like a Baja racer, it's best for high speed invasion across dunes, not as good as solid axles for this rock crawling terrain. Long wheelbase is good and bad, stability going up a hill, but gets hung up easy

A very good video! Both drivers have a lot of skill and it really shows. This also makes for an awesome comparison between a really-really good off-road vehicle and a hummer h1. At some places, the Hummer driver was driving like he was in the army and the Hummer belonged to his Uncle Sam. Both rigs are great. And I really appreciate you letting us hear the vehicles instead of covering up those wonderful sounds with "music". In the '60s, I thought I'd like to own a 140 mph car. In 1987, we bought our first 4WD rig. Now, the only way I'd buy a 140 mph car is if I could also afford a 4WD rig.

I have personally wheeled my Jeep with a group of Hummers and they are very capable vehicles (the old military ones like shown here). However, since they don’t have any flex in the drivetrain they spent a great deal of time on only three wheels. Also due to low ground clearance and long wheelbase, they became high-centered quite a bit.

Both are awesome off-road vehicles! But let me guess... Hummer had stock suspension and no lift - while Jeep had at least 4 inch lift, upgraded dana and bunch of other aftermarket suspension upgrades...

Humman Off-Road Adventures, that's a very mildly modded jeep. Maybe 3-4" lift and what look to be 35, maybe 37", mud grapplers. The Hummer was on 40" trail grapplers. The mods to the jeep vs the huge 40's on the Hummer actually bring both vehicles into very close comparison when you look at approach, departure, and break over angles. The longer wb of the Hummer had a few more hangups. But the shear traction and torque usually prevailed. The jeep had way more suspension articulation but the lack of travel didn't seem to affect the Hummer much. From a ground clearance perspective, the Hummer wins 10 fold. No low hanging diffs and portal hubs rule for ground clearance.

I would disagree with 'mildly modded'. Aftermarket suspension, lift, upgraded dana and +others upgrades does not make it 'mild' in any book :-). All Hummer needed was proper tires - that was it!. Try to take stock 4-doors Jeep Wrangler with whatever tires you can put on it (33) without any other mods through this trail and see what happens. I have nothing against Jeep - just want to point-out that if you want to compare 2 different vehicles - you need to compare just stock or with equal modifications.

Humman Off-Road Adventures your also trying to compare a vehicle, the Hummer, that cost close to 100k, when they were new. So, even if the jeep had some axle mods and a basic bolt on lift, it's still half the price. I'm not taking anything away from the Hummer, it's sheer size and weight put it at a huge disadvantage. Its extremely advance 4wheel drive system paired with the right size tires makes it just about unstoppable. Mud would be the only place this Hummer may struggle a bit, due to its weight and lack of power. The GM 6.5 turbo diesel is a bit on the lathargic side.

Chad Oakley jeep is a 3 inch lift on 37’s. with original mounting points on all the arms (no long arms)Diffs are upgraded dana units (not sure how that affect suspension accept slowing you down...) Hummers stock suspension (with factory portals etc) and 40’s Hope that clears things up

Nicholas Klapsogiannis danas are more robust, can take a hit, can withstand the necessary rotational force from the engine vs the resistence from the terrain. Doesnt help suspension, but dramatically enhances overall performance

Both did incredibly but I think if they had to do a few circuits, the hummer looks like it would hold up better. Congrats to the drivers.

keeping in mind....the jeep was modified for this....lockers, ect. And the Hummer is an all terrain truck, not only rock crawling, and looked pretty stock. Not to mention one long ass wheel base... I was very impressed with the hummer. I was however, alittle thrown off at the Hummers lack of articulation. I expected more for some reason

Not sure if this is a joke or not, but funny non the less. A hummer is not even close to as capable being that it has independent front suspension. There isn't even a comparison vs a rubicon with disconnect swing arm. Yes jeeps drive like shit dur to the solid front axel but nothing can even come close, and I mean nothing. Not to mention the H1 weighs a lot more, probably double.

@Jason Davis eh. HMMWV was designed with emphasis on fixing jeeps stability and cargo issues. I would probably bet on the H1 in a straight climb. Getting over the top, that i might question.

As someone who has owned and off-roaded a highly modified Jeep and a stock Hummer and have wrenched on them both, I prefer the Hummer. I can get all my camping gear(for 2 weeks and 2 people) and 850lbs of moose meat into the H1. I couldn't dream of that in the Jeep. My usual hunting trip consists of 594miles(956km) highway and 95miles(153km) off road thru mud, sand, rock and rivers. Neither rig is "better" it all depends on what you are using it for, how you drive and where you are driving it. I've found the H1 to be more capable all around. And just because you can't afford something, doesn't make it inferior.
