Florida Rule - Never hit mud slowly. As a lifelong Jeep owner (7 now), I am utterly blown away by how that HMMWV just absolutely REFUSED to quit moving, even though every experience I've ever had in my life said it should have bogged to the ground in the holes the driver dug it into. The HMMV was not built/designed to be great at any one thing, instead they were built/designed to do everything good. Some of the design features that make it capable are but not limited to how wide the vehicle is, it is built that way too make it more stable on and off road. Another feature is it's independent suspension front and rear. They choose independent suspension so they could give the vehicle as much ground clearance as possible without changing the vehicles center of balance. Then they optimizer the ground clearance by adding portal axles which greatly improved the overall ground clearance and gave more wheel well clearance so they could fit a 38" tire which again helps increase the ground clearance. The other great thing about portal axle is that it lowers the gear ratio which makes it easier to turn the larger wheels and tires and helps reduce stress on the transmission and helps the transmission alot once they add armor to the vehicle (base hmmv weights 5,200lbs and the up-armored hmmv weights (gross) 12,000lbs i loved being a 63B (all wheeled Diesel mechanic) in the military cause i got to drive all the different military vehicles i did it for 8 years.

Then the humvee part we all looked at how deep it was and was like nope, then he said well i dont think ill make it but lets give it a go. We do to, it just depends on the area. This was a off road park so there is no knowing how deep that hole was just by looking. If it was in a field with clear water and we can see the bottom then yes we would have hit it like that. But this was in summer and the hole was still full of water, in Texas this isnt a common thing. So standing water with clay at a off road park we were taking it easy, being able to go to a park and take it easy will teach you how to drive in the real world while in the middle of nowhere. As slow as possible as fast as needed. That is how we learn what the rig can and can not do along with what holes and speed. This was just a fun weekend of playing and testing.

🤣 yeah they were over it after the first minute, the tires would have made all the difference for sure. Thanks for watching 😌

@@JeepTrailsandBarbells tires were only a tiny bit of the problem. Have you guys driven through mud holes before? That is a LOT of resistance to push through. Paddle tires may not have even helped much without momentum. An 8000 lbs vehicle requires some momentum.

@@Power5 yep been off roading my whole life, been out in Tacoma's, jeep, broncos, z71, ram himes, rangers, land rovers, atv, uts, Humvees, 4 runners, frontiers. You name it and from AT to MT and no matter the rig without the right tires your fucked everytime. I dont care what anyone will say on here, there is all kinds of different terrains soil, sand, snow, gray clay, red clay, rock, gravel, shell, if you dont have the rubber even with both diffs locked up your still fucked. MT will get you stuck in sand fast as shot from digging instead of rolling. AT will get you stuck in clay the tread in to tight to clear the sticky clay in the tracks even with high wheel speed, airing down helps yes but all you fucking clowns act like its the end all be all fix and its not there is a lot more at play then airing down. And driving fast? Sure if you want to dive into a hole you dont know how deep it is and just take the chance of breaking shit or flooding out go for it, but ill play it safe with as slow as possible and fast as needed, once this Texas clay gets wet after getting hard all summer and is packed in hard it becomes ice when wet, it will pack your tread and have as mutch traction as driving on glass with oil spilled on it But thanks for watching 👍

That Hummer is unstoppable? That mud hole did a dam good job of stopping it.
@JeepTrailsandBarbells4 жыл бұрын
Well true, but i was meaning how deep it was and could still moves instead of just getting stuck in place. The slick clay and steep incline to get out had its own input on it. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤷♂️

You need to go read the manual on how to drive the humvee in the mud You have to spin the tires fast enough to clean the mud out of the tread you don't know with you have thats not a truck that made me look bad i live in the mountains of Kentucky and I've never been stuck in my humvee remember fast spinning tires = never stuck. And don't forget you have brake lock differential So poor the carbide to it and you'll never look bad again 👍
