That hurts. As a 32 year Captain at Delta, I read safety reports from airlines around the world. Us carriers have by far, the best safety record. We don't have culture issues like Asian carriers, or Command issues like Middle Eastern ones, South American ones. We are on par with Western Europe carriers and I believe it's our maintenance that pulls us ahead. So go ahead and fly your Emirates, just hope nothing goes wrong.

If you take away Deltas safety record you are left with bad service, bad catering .Delta is Skyteams american partner and out of its members probably rated against KLM Air France and Korean Delta is Skyteams "poor partner"

I just got updated on NYC - SFO last weekend on American's transcon planes and the food was served significantly better on that flight in business than what you experienced. Decent food, solid plating - no plastic wrap with drinks in glass cups. I know American finally cut some of their cost saving BS over the past month or two, but crazy that my overall service was way better on a 6 hr domestic flight in business vs your experience in first internationally.

I flew BA first class from Miami to London, in a 747. The plane was very old and it looked it. The worst part was that they "forgot" to serve me breakfast!! I was up, had my table out, ready for my meal. Watching everyone around me get their food, I finally asked one "where's my breakfast" and she gave me a bewildered look, and told me that they had stopped serving as we were about to land, etc. I just stared at her and said "so you forgot to serve me breakfast?"....she came later with a biscuit with a piece of bacon in it....

I recently flew United first class and what your describing is much better than what I experienced. The only thing that was better than the economy was the width of the seat. The food was served with plastic utensils and the beverage was served in a small plastic cup filled with ice and about two teaspoons of liquid. It was a sub-economy experience. I haven't flown for eight years (internationally). After 911, flying became a more and more unbearable experience for the peasants and chattle; all the way from the queues and suspicious searches, to the impersonal kiosks, to being herded into our assigned holding pens like livestock, and then finally crammed into those chicken cages they call seats: "Here, have some peanuts and don't let your knees knock your teeth out during turbulance." Flying used to be relaxing even for coach class travellers. And then... there are the fellow travellers who are angry, disrespectful, stressed, sleep-deprived and or drunk. If I cannot fly at least first class on long haul flights, then I'll just stay home. And at those prices, it looks like I'm staying home.

Those are just added perks, not a huge factor in the price of the seat, you're paying for the space a first class seat takes up on the plane, which you could probably fit 2 or 3 rows of economy seats into the same space, then add the perks, luggage included and its 70lb per bag, not the standard 50lb, lounge service, more staff to passenger ratio, etc.

@@MG-ot2yr i think compared to some of the fine dining experiences on first class these days you can hardly say the food is a "perk". @@smalltownsessions2072 Well even comparing it costwise to an expensive meal out, say $300-$400 per person at a top end restaurant, its still is only a small fraction of the $10k ticket. @@MG-ot2yr Let's be honest: AA could make a profit on this seat and flight at approximately $2,500... but they will charge more, much more, if some sucker will pay more. Better food and service is possible but AA's current CEO doesn't care unless it's himself on that flight.
@MG-ot2yr3 жыл бұрын
@@charlesjwin Actually I was curious if that $10k figure was accurate and checked fares for 1st class roundtrip JFK-LHR-JFK in Feb mid week you can fly for $3500 roundtrip, in July it looks like a seasonal increase and costs around $4800 roundtrip. Business class is about $2000 roundtrip. I wouldn't pay for 1st class, you get the flat bed in business class, the pod isn't as big as 1st but it satisfies the purpose of sleeping horizontal.
