1) American didn’t order the E190 they were inherited from the US Airways merger 2) Americans oldest 737 is 25, not 60. 3) Scope clause does not stop the E2 from being operated in the US, it only stops it being operated by regional subsidiaries. The E2, just like the A220-100 and earlier the E190 can be ordered and operated in as many units as an airline chooses as long as it’s on the mainline certificate.

Don't you mean to say that the aircraft's DESIGN is over 20 years old and not what you implied that the aircraft were built 20 years earlier. Yes the 737 design is 60 years old but not the aircraft you are showing. Very misleading!

It is becoming clearer that the Unions “scope clause” is starting to impact US carriers in a negative way. This might be partially related to Boeing’s problems.

Get rid of the scope Clause
@Cactus7325 ай бұрын
Why? The scope clause doesn’t limit aircraft, it limits outsourcing to cheaper labor. American or anyone else can operate as many E175s, including E2s, as they want, they just have to be operated by mainline crews.
@neilpickup2375 ай бұрын
As I see it, there are two options available. Change the SCOPE clause or reduce the weight of the E2. I suspect that the former may face a lot of resistance, and the latter may take some time. The increase in weight is substantially due to the heavier engines, so presumably a SCOPE compatible solution will be through lighter engines. I haven't been able to find full information, although RR are not just highlighting the efficiency of their Ultrafan, but how it is lighter than current engines of comparable power. The Ultrafan has been designed to be scalable, but while you would think that it should be lighter the the E2's engines, will it be light enough for SCOPE compliance? Given that the next generations of engines will be increasing their bypass ratios by developing smaller, lighter, yet more powerful and efficient cores, rather than just increasing the size of the front fan, how long will it take for one of the engine manufacturers to provide something suitable? Roll-on the E3!

When I was at an airport in California, I noticed American was running a lot of small jets, which didn't seem to make sense. It seems like jets would be too fuel-hungry for commuter routes.

The simple fact is that American, just like Delta had/have huge number of 717's (former MD-80 series) that they need to replace and Airbus can only make so many A-220's which is what Delta chose to go with China's jet is about where the Bombardier C was 15 or 20 years ago. It may someday be a major player but not now and not any time soon

Overall I enjoyed the video but one small point. American does have a large Canadian market BUT they are a US carrier with US Piots so they must follow the US association's rules.

AA no longer offers non-stop service on it's LAX/JFK route. all routes now have one stop. cuts down on flying fuel. one route in particular JFK/OMA/LAX uses the E-175 on both segments of the flight(s). this ain't your daddy's airline.

LAX/JFK transcon flights are a major competitive route. AA would never cut their non-stop service especially after confirming plans to introduce A321XLRs to this route featuring new Flagship products.
