We had an American Akita. Brindle and she was so fantastic with me,my son and my 2 very young daughters!!! She was territorial to say the least. Could be extremely aggressive at time with unknown people and unknown dogs. We loved her so much. She was friends with a sheep dog and a puppy sheep dog! They were quite a team!! We miss her still today. Always will. She was a very happy dog!!

Our American Akita passed away at six years of age from diabetes, but he was so sweet. He loved the dogs that he was raised around in our house.

I have 2 Akitas a male and female. This video is SPOT ON. GREAT GUARD dogs...no need to train for protection. Can be VICIOUS w people or other animals but....LOVING w their pack/families. Best all around dog I have owned. The biggest down side is the SHEDDING..arghhh (grins). I have 2 robot vacuums I run DAILY just to keep up w the hair... Also..they don't bark until there is a THREAT. They guard house/ property 24/7. Best to treat them like loaded guns around other animals and people outside of pack/family. Big playful TEDDY BEARS with their families though!

We called them perfect apartment dogs. Females, never needed to go out much, layed around like a cat. Never barked until alerted. Great friend for life. Not great with other females. Males, much bigger, never had one.

I doubt you have ever owned an Akita. Yes they are good with children, BUT only and this is a very serious point, if the Akita had been socialised around children when it was a pup, otherwise do not trust an Akita around children and never leave a child alone or unsupervised with this breed.

Agreed, with an unsocialized dog. I had a female that was amazing with children of all ages. Better with children than some overly aggressive adults for sure.

Oh we owned her alright, and I really don't appreciate your beginning statement. At that we get aggressive as well! Go get you a little ankle biter and one that constantly barks for no reason. Our Akita didn't bark unless we left and put her in her large dog run. Other than that they warn you by growling. Super protectors.

Akitas don't like loud people. Adult or children.

I guess my akita breaks the rules lol, when out shes a social butterfly with strangers as soon as they do the oh look in a nice voice shes straight over for attention but completely different in my car or home, she also lives with my sons female shepard who she was not raised with she was 2 when they first met and she also lives with cats one she was raised with from a pup the other she first met at 2 she loves all my family when they visit including the baby granddaughter , her downside reactive on lead to other dogs but more i wanna say high but she looks aggressive which ive been told by her trainers she is not

I absolutely love Akitas! ♥️ But this video is just parroting nonsense and unfortunately that is the internet for you. Sterilisation does NOT reduce aggression. It's a cash cow for the veterinary industry. The most common method of sterilisation, castration, can result in hormone imbalance and so generate insecurity in the dog and thereby INCREASE the potential for aggression. Further more it increases the likelihood of hip dysplasia if done at an early age. So now you have an insecure dog in pain. There are other, often cheaper, methods of sterilisation that do not involve castration.

So much missing here if you are looking to get an Akita off looks alone do research first. Ask owners in your area "from a safe distance". I did a solid year of research and it served me well this video is a complete joke. Neutering will not quell aggressive behavior for sure its a gamble. Many retain same sex aggression. They also failed to mention the risk for Bloat or their 450 Bite force that will delete you quickly if you run a fowl. This bred is for more experienced owners. If its going to be your first dog treat it like its your first gun. This breed requires full accountability and mutual respect. The dog will absolutely ignore you if they find you to be weak. Fenrir AKITAS has far better content go there

Be patent and enjoy him, sounds like you have an Akita with a good temperament as a owner of 6 2 males and 4 females all have good temperaments (lucky) one of my males 3 years old is just like that 135 pounds of puppy and very high energy my god is he strong he has a very inquisitive nature with strong hunter instincts he was my second Akita and the hardest to train of the 6 and 1 day I made the rare choice of putting him on a 35lb test chain in my front yard while I was cleaning my bike yard had a 2 foot high ranch style fence with some shrubs every now and then I would take a look at him he was enjoying being out there with me then it happened as I polishing my bike I looked over at him and what I saw in him ( look on his face) gave me a hair rising chill that went over my whole body he was at chains end something I had never seen before I turned around real fast to see what put him in such a defense mode and it was a guy walking up the drive behind me I yelled STOP NOT ANOTHER STEP I looked back over at my Akita and thought my god he's going to snap that chain or being down the post supporting my eve, by now the guy saw him told the guy in a calm voice 2 things are going to happen that chain will snap and you will be going to the hospital now back down the drive and state you reason for coming up behind me like that ( he was taking surveys for a news channel ) I said not today your not best be moving on and he agreed, I went to my male Akita and calmed him down and said good boy we were out their for another hour but he never really calmed down to the point of relaxing, pacing and aways looking ,but that day I learned this 135 lb puppy was all business when he sensed I may be in danger so trust your Akitas instincts he will know before you do.

Guard instincts are in their genes, trust me Akitas have a very powerful sense of detecting the good character of a person or evil intent I myself have put this into practice with 2 of my females, say I wanted to do some business with someone or wanted to date a girl, invite them over for a drink or lunch I would have 2 of my females in the house the other 4 outside, the one female is the mother of the pack 4 years very Intune to my voice and movements the other is the youngest at 11 months 1 is a red and white pinto the other black with 2 white socks both are first place winners, the person comes over I invite them in a few things are going to happen (1) they greet the person with a welcome curiosity (2) their approach is reserved no tail wagging like maybe after awhile (3) The mother has no approach keeps her distance and is very much watching every move and listening to the tone of my voice, am I talking calmly or with some Alfa tone (4) they are down right not happy with your presence and you smell of ill intent and if that's the case I just say I don't know what's gotten into them today. This character check as I call it plays a big roll in what I decide, do I want this girl in my life? etc.
