Amazing! The detailed info you - our "YouCanDanceToIt" author. Following the guidelines of "who's who" in these episodes of American Bandstand sure bring the viewers to a more personal level of appreciation in the people back then. As said before by me: Dick Clark was a master in showmanship during his life time. He obviously like that 1960's collection of youth for the most part. I was seventeen-and-a-half when this March, '68 show was on. Sometimes I wish I had been in that select group of teens for an episode.

By the time you were 15 and 16, you were expected to have a part time job and finish school. After graduation, provide for yourself. Now we have extended childhoods for people past 30 it seems.

I was put in the cotton fields w my bro & parents; all to teach me to stay in school! I was also told, "Don't get pregnant!" No instructions about how not to except, " Avoid every occasion for sin.". Someone should teach kids that people come from either a taking/hating base or a giving/loving base. I didn't learn that until I was 38yrs. old. I must get some help! I keep coming back to this clip to enjoy the music, and the dancers. In 1965, Jean Shrimpton, a British model (AKA "The First Super Model") came Down Under and caused outrage when she wore a skirt 5 inches above her knees to a function in Melbourne. It was Jean who changed womens' fashion for ever. Ever since I saw Peggy (e.g. @3:45), I thought she bore a more than passing resemblance to Jean. Around the time this clip went to air, I met The Light In My Darkness, who I thought (at that time) looked a little like Jean Shrimpton & then I found YCDYI & Peggy, who also looks a little like both of them. Love this video! Could you post anymore of those “throwback” AMB videos? It’s beyond trippy to see kids from ‘67 dancing to Jan and Dean’s single from five years prior. Man how quickly popular music and styles changed in the 60s. Everything from ‘66 onwards seemed light years ahead of the early part of the decade.

The (Young) Rascals' guitarist Gene Cornish was raised in Rochester NY (my hometown!) and played in bands there before making that trip to NYC to join Felix, Eddie and Dino. One of my favorite groups. BTW - would you happen to have the Buckinghams' clip? (Don't You Care is a fave!)
@YCDTI5 жыл бұрын
@Kevin Goins, I love watching the Ed Sullivan Show clips with Gene Cornish out front jamming on his guitar smiling. They were great! The Buckinghams performed “Kind of a Drag” and “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” on today’s episode. Unfortunately I don’t have any clips of them performing or the kids dancing to “Don’t You Care” (another great song). Sorry.

I was listening to a lot of Motown back then when I was 9 years old. My older sister was fun to watch at Band Stand, and then the Soooooul Train became a lot more funky.

I was 10-years old in 1967. I'm 67 now, retired, grandfather. I'm saddened that my 3 grandchildren will never experience my era.
