In 1967, I used to live in Lahore, Pakistan. As a 9 year old child, 4th grader I visited my uncle in Sialkot, Pakistan where I first heard the song and ever since this became my favorite. The record and the player belonged to my uncle but I could not stop playing it agin and again. 57 years later while living as a retired physician in Dallas, TX with my wife, daughter, her husband and 2 beautiful grand children, while surfing the KZbin, at 11:49 pm I suddenly came across the Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood "Summer wine". I do not know where those 57 years went but the sweet and refreshing taste of "Summer Wine" is still the same!

The million people who purchased "Sugar Town" in late 1966/early 1967 must have been very pleased to turn the single over and hear this gorgeous song. So amazing that the song ended up getting enough airplay to chart as a B side at #49 before being set aside by Nancy & Frank's monster duet "Something Stupid" (produced by Hazelwood), which had just been released. But Nancy & Lee would continue to release duets & hit the top 40 three times. Must have been very gratifying for Lee, who until then, had been behind the scenes writing and producing Nancy's hits.

@@buckjohnson1119 Frank had nothing to do with it at all. Mo Ostin had put Nancy together with Jimmy Bowen and they recorded “In The Wee Small Hours” and “True Love,” which were not hits. Jimmy was friends with Lee who told him he knew how to record her. Lee then pitched himself to Mo who was about to drop Nancy from Reprise. He told Mo he would get Nancy a chart record their first time out. Mo gave her another shot and they recorded “So Long, Babe” which charted and they offered her a new deal.

I am also 74. I went to an all-girl private school. Before holidays our teachers would let us have some fun. My best friend and I would sing this song, she sang as Lee Hazelwood, and I as Nancy Sinatra. I sang solo These Boots Are Made For Walkin, and Bang Bang. Love the songs back then.

Nancy is the first Sinatra that I knew, but as I got older her dad became one of my all time favorite singers. The Ed Sullivan Show vaults are a national treasure.

I purchased a Nancy Greatest Hits double CD in the 90s, mainly for " Boots" and "Sugar Town." I was astounded at the other 25 or so tracks, they were outstanding. Most written and produced by Lee. Nancy & Lee, a terrific combination.

Very classy video that does the song justice. Nice that Ed mentions Lee being the songwriter of Nancy's hits in the introduction & even gave him solo billing at the end of the introduction. Ed always had a tough time letting Nancy go at the end of her performances & who could blame him. She was breathtaking. The usual, "Say hello to your mother & Frank".

As I see the posted version of the video, this channel edited out the intro by Ed that I reference in my prior post. Not sure why it was edited, but hopefully the information I provided will let you know how Ed introduced the performance.

Heard this song in Sky original film The Hanging Sun (2022) I was so impressed with the females voice couldn’t place it so I Googled it I was shocked to learn if was Nancy Sinatra!! I never thought of her as a great singer before this I knew her from her past hits like These boots are made for walking and Something Stupid but her voice was always average but with Summer Wine her voice is absolutely beautiful! and I love how their voices compliment each other , great song!
