Our brother was in Korea at the time. Being deaf in one ear we thought he wouldn't get drafted but they took him and sent him to a safe space away from combat. He passed away 5 years ago. This is the best showcase of Famous and June to date!!! They were really rockin' it! But, really, who couldn't given that great tune! @@bignickak There may have been some competition but I am not aware of that. Everyone was supposed to follow the dress code but there were some rule breakers. I didn't witness them getting tossed out on their ear. In a prior clip that Aaron posted about the length of skirts, Don and I spoke to the fact that the clothes we wore to the show where also our school clothes and there were very strict rules about that. I sure didn't have any money to go out and buy fancy clothes. In fact, I made most of my clothes. I am pretty sure that Frank looked across the dance floor as did I and locked eyes and that was that! So agree, AARON & DON: one of the best songs EVER! Fun to sing along to especially with someone else in duet form :---) "Kim Weston" was an absolute talent for Motown. Her big hit record, another one of my favorites, was "Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While)" later remade by the Doobie Brothers. Kim was another victim of "leave Motown and good luck to your singing career." Kim left Motown a few months after "It Takes Two" bravely suing Motown over royalties. (P.S. Wondering why Dick chose to move Famous & June over to his left side?)

Rex Garvin's Sock It To Me JB used at the half way point with the kids in the bleachers. Funny that poor Marvin lip synced It Takes Two with a rag doll! Geez! The record hitting #14 was due to the fact Kim and then-husband Mickey Stevenson (former Motown A&R chief) bolted for MGM (no duet partner for promotional appearances).
@YCDTI5 жыл бұрын
Good explanation @Kevin Goins, but even so, don’t you think it should’ve been a bigger hit? I guess it shows how important promotion was, even for an amazing song like this.
@keithidota5 жыл бұрын
Marvin Gaye was not yet a top-tier hitmaker at that point, having had 4 top-10 hits, no top-5s. This could be a factor in why "It Takes Two" didn't reach its chart potential., radio stations weren't necessarily clamoring to play his new music It would all change for him with his huge #1 hit "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" as he would follow that with 2 top-10 smashes. After a quiet year in 1970 he scored big in 1971 with "What's Going On' and 2 more biggies.

Peggy doesn't seem proud to say she's 16. And speaking of age. has the mystery of Famous Hooks's age been solved here? He said he was 18 here, which would have him near his mid-20s when he ended his Bandstand run in the early '70s. A 1991 L.A. Times article about him gave his then-age as 34. You do the math!
@peggela5 жыл бұрын
I think maybe this age is correct.As I recall he was just a couple of years older than I am. People often told fibs about their age because they had a "rule" that you had to be between the ages of 15 and 18.....dancers made a lot of "fudge" and the production didn't seem to really care that much.
