It likely would cost them money in licensing to use the actual performances, especially since performances were lip-synched to the original records.

Back in the day "I Can't Wait" was The Jam, it was a Hit on The Pop, R & B & Dance Chart where it went to Number One. They also did Solid Gold & were one of the very few White Acts to do Soul Train. They even went to The UK and did Top Of The Pops, England's Number One Music Show. Another Fly White Gal was Ta Mara from Ta Mara & The Seen with "Everybody Dance" (Not The Chic Song). One of her former Bandmates was Oliver Leiber whose Father Jerry was along with Mike Stoller one of the First Successful Songwriting Teams in Music who wrote for Elvis, Drifters, Coasters, Wilbert Harris. They even Produced The "Original" Version of Go Now by Bessie Banks.

Another White duo, The Family, consisted of a man and woman. They were part of the Minneapolis Sound, with a hit song called “High Fashion”, written by Prince, who also recorded his own version of the song. Another hit by The Family was called, “The Screams of Passion”.

I guess Dick didn't get the memo that Valerie Day and John Smith are husband and wife. Nonetheless, I remember when "I Can't Wait" came out in early 1986. I loved that song the first time I heard it and went to the record store to buy the single. I felt the same way about their follow-up song, "Point of No Return." I still have those records to this day.

DC always taped his show in "real time" as if it's a live broadcast. You do four tapings a month on one Saturday and see if it's easy - it ain't. As for him being a "dork" - well if it wasn't for that "dork" many would not have had a shot at network TV.
