My goal is to one day have 1/4 of the amount of confidence that Ricky has in this movie. To be able to just introduce myself to my new middle-aged next door neighbor during a crowded business function and then asking them if they want to go get high outside.

Granted I lifted this from IMDB so take that for what you will, but I read that Spacey genuinely broke character there and Wes Bentley was trying hard not to crack as well but it worked for the scene. Like I said it’s the internet so could be false.

I often cringe at the way movies portray weed, it’s always exaggerated and pretentious. This movie, however, did it PERFECTLY. As a stoner, I can relate to this so well. Even little details like the smile on Ricky’s face when Lester loses it. Ricky, being the experienced smoker, can just maintain composure while the other dude is just laughing his ass off. Brilliantly done

The framing of the scene actually is a very strong metaphor. When the two guys are smoking pot outside, it shows the temporary escape for Lester from his own boring and stressed daily life represented by the building with a small door. He then reluctantly obliges to his wife's order to return to the building, showing his return to the routines that he resented so much. Just terrific.

Poor Lester and poor Christy, they both seem so uncomfortable being there for similar reasons. She and Lester are keeping up appearances, while she is going through a divorce and Lester is just is sad at what his life has become. Such a deep and powerful scene filled with subtext we don't even find out till later in the film when it all makes sense. This is why its such an amazing film and ironically both actors were in L.A. Confidential.

I love how Ricky was just trying to get it in good with their daughter. I mean that was his soul purpose. And his reasoning being that he was just curious about her and that he found her interesting. I think that (plus he's looks) is what's so appealing about him. Makes me wonder if when he no longer finds her interesting, would he just leave her? He seems to have a pretty cold side... though I think that side of him can be explained by his 18 year relationship with his father.

great work how ricky says his dad interferes less when he appears to be a upstanding citizen. carolyn immediately interferes and interrupts the two as lester hides the joint, trying to look like an “upstanding citizen”.

This movie has a Fight club quality to it. Characters fed up of putting up with a system thats consumes them.

One of my favorite movies. Too bad if the allegations against Spacey are true because he is a good actor.

Even if they are true I don’t even care, Spacey is a PHENOMENAL talent. Arguably the best actor of the entire 1990s decade.

This scene is so perfect. And it's possibly the best way I've ever seen to quit a job before. I've got serious job security, so I'm mad I'll never get to use it 🤣

I feel like the guy next door can almost see Lester is going through a mid life crisis and he's bored out his fuckin mind, so he indulges him into the life of getting high and being free. Hes a smooth operator.

Most people take life too seriously. Say "fck it" and do what you like. That's the only thing that really matters.
