I often cringe at the way movies portray weed, it’s always exaggerated and pretentious. This movie, however, did it PERFECTLY. As a stoner, I can relate to this so well. The framing of the scene actually is a very strong metaphor. When the two guys are smoking pot outside, it shows the temporary escape for Lester from his own boring and stressed daily life represented by the building with a small door. He then reluctantly obliges to his wife's order to return to the building, showing his return to the routines that he resented so much. Just terrific.

Poor Lester and poor Christy, they both seem so uncomfortable being there for similar reasons. She and Lester are keeping up appearances, while she is going through a divorce and Lester is just is sad at what his life has become. Such a deep and powerful scene filled with subtext we don't even find out till later in the film when it all makes sense. This is why its such an amazing film and ironically both actors were in L.A. Confidential.

I love how Ricky was just trying to get it in good with their daughter. I mean that was his soul purpose. And his reasoning being that he was just curious about her and that he found her interesting. I think that (plus he's looks) is what's so appealing about him. Makes me wonder if when he no longer finds her interesting, would he just leave her? He seems to have a pretty cold side... though I think that side of him can be explained by his 18 year relationship with his father.
