I am from Mombasa and ill clarify on the matter of Kenya having segregated communities. 1. Indians have always had that lifestyle of having big families around where they live at. Sometimes even have friends and colleagues renting out the same spaces just to be closer to each other and bring the back at home Indian vibe to where they stay. 2. Many of them like that privacy because I believe like this keeps whatever they got going on to themselves like. Having like refugees staying in the country illegally as they find ways of getting the right paper works done. Same as Africans trying to get to Europe and America, its just that they have far extensive ways of making that a big huddle for anyone trying to pull that out. 3.Being honest we have prominent Indian dudes who got money here in Mombasa and even all over Kenya. I have reason to believe that there might be someone somewhere in Mombasa has entire apartments rented out for the Indian ethnicity to settle in. Its just is a preferable choice for them. 4.These Indians are like a minority group in Kenya and they have like that Arab mindset of preserving their culture and religion and so by having their own gated community and not having to be worried of a person coming over and have a different lifestyle that they believe with time it may start influencing them and there families too. To avoid that hustle of having to talk to someone like yo we do not behave this way or do not do this around here , they just shut themselves away. They do not have an issue because outside they talk to and work with every people of color. Kenya is an amazing place and is just getting better by the day and years to come. so find an apartment buy it for travelling sake and have a place to stay at when coming to Kenya, because you never know you might just need it one day you know, with these movements going on all over the word and African Americans retracing there roots and coming back to Africa. It would be great to have a place to stay at than rent out a whole place because its expensive and its gonna keep on going up in price. Id recommend the apartments at Buxton area they go for a reasonable price on them and just in the middle of Mombasa, efficient for anyone trying to settle in, for quick movement within Mombasa and getting your daily amenities too. I can also hook you up with one if interested, so reach out to me for more info.

I see you are getting the hang of things in Kenya ... Furnished apartments ALWAYS cost WAY MORE sometimes more than double what an unfurnished apartment would You did great and got the prices in Shillings ... Avoid any place that quotes the price in dollars I'm sure you've seen the house tour video by the 'Residential Tourists' and those prices were just ridiculous!

The last one is better. Watching from the US, planning to visit Kenya for three months with intention to relocate but after hearing the guy mentioned that one of the building "no African allowed" that is a BIG turnoff for me. If this is true what is the Kenya leaders doing about such situations. Is Kenya segregated, seems there are areas blacks cannot go. I FIND THIS EXTREMELY DISTURBING. PLEASE CLARIFY.
@safiprince Жыл бұрын
Someone from here would probably explain it better than me but I think Mombasa has places where certain ethnic groups live. I really don’t know if they would deny me if I tried to seriously move in🤷🏾♂️. But please don’t let that discourage you from visiting this beautiful country.

No we have been on high alert there is a group trying that race card and trust me it's not invited here even a club had to close down because they created 2 lines for black and whites and it's was not taken lightly by Kenyans so we don't accept such behaviour and the discrimination comes from a section of the community doing dirt for example Nigerian are not allowed in some part of Kenya because of their behaviour

@@safiprince I grew up in a neighborhood in Nairobi that had lots of Indians. The Indians always lived in their own secluded gated compounds. We locals really didn’t care - they had their spaces, we had ours. I came to learn that this compounds were mainly composed of families and close relatives. I also attended Primary school (Americans you call it elementary school) and High school with them. Being very observant, I learned a lot about their culture and ways. I came to learn of their differences there are Indians originally from Pakistan, some from India, Bangladesh etc. Among them were Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus etc. I was surprised that these different groups did not see each other eye to eye and some even went to the extent of discriminating each other according to caste. Many Kenyans don’t realize this, they assume all ‘Indians’ are the same - they are not. They come from very diverse backgrounds. Some of their cultural practices are very alien, I was shocked to learn that some (not sure which group) are allowed to marry their first cousins. In African cultures that is an unfathomable taboo! One thing I respect though about them, they will go all out to retain and preserve their culture. The Indians in Kenya were brought by the British in the 1800’s to build the railway. Some are now in the 4th and 5th generation and still retain every bit of their culture (religion, language, foods etc) despite having never stepped in the India or Pakistan. This is something that has been observed about them in Britain, Canada and America. The Indians retain their culture for generations. Africans (those in Europe and America) on the other hand, will lose their culture in one generation. I have a colleague when it was time to get married, his parents literally flew to India and got him a bride! They still have arranged marriages even today, majority still do. In Kenya discrimination along race is against the law, and if it was truly the case that the apartment complex does not allow black people, they could be reported and action taken against them. However most of us who’ve lived among them (Indians) understand they have their own secluded spaces, so we really don’t bother as long as they don’t bother us. Hope my explanation gives you a bit of context.

@@kenyanlivingabroad Thank you for your response. Being from the West and hearing such an atrocity in Kenya is extremely disturbing. This is Kenya-Africa this should not be happening in the 21st century much less 2023. Are the leaders aware of this racism? and if so, what are they doing about it. Africa is for African not for the Indians, not for the whites, etc whether Kenya was their place of birth or not. An African can not go to India or other Asian or European countries and practice such behavior so why should such practice tolerated in any African country. This is absurd. Something must be done. The president is making it attractive for blacks from the west to come home or visit but how can we under such upheaval.

Why in the world are mombasa homes or apartments so dirty and full of trash when showing them for home viewing? Geez. Mombasans should learn a few lessons from Nairobians. Whenever you show homes you gotta ensure they have clean interior and exterior too. Omgoodness! I would lose interest so fast if I saw an apartment dirty or trashy. Immeidately. I guess this is different. Sorry, still sold to nairobi homes. Even the low quality ones are still cleaner. But thanks for your content. Now we know. lol

Trust me, Westerners stare directly with no shame, too. Especially in smaller towns or places where they aren't used to people of different races, but even just anywhere. In Asia they'll stop you and ask to take pictures of you or with you.
