I'm impressed, a lot of the civil war youtube videos are very farby but you look great. Also nice to see a frock that actually fits. I've poored over tons of photos, and you're justified wearing a frock for a general impression they were definitely still pretty common in the late war, along with the blouses and various non-descript 9 button jackets.

Great video! 👍 As a Union Civil reenactor here in America I have to say your impression is very good. I also have bought reenactment clothing from the same place as you did. They do indeed make some of the top quality clothing in the hobby. For brogans thy Missouri boot and shoe . He is very good. Also when putting on all your equipment try putting on the canteen last. That way you can drink water without having to take your knapsack off. 😊

a good addition would be instead of a knapsack use a blanket roll in my opinion its more comfortable but its up to individual preference but if you do want to go with a knapsack paint on it it was common for soldiers to paint on there knapsack haversack and canteen it could be something as simple as you initials of as complex as your regiment another thing to add to your impression especially a mid to late war eastern theatre would be a corps badge on your coat or hat the corps badge was a source of pride for the soldier it could be made of fabric or any other material they were often a private purchase with the more expensive options being gold or silver and the cheaper options being fabric

Reading of a Confederate soldier account from the battle of Vicksburg and falling surrendered. "We only heard nothing but heavy guns from Dardanelles upon our fine city, lord knows it cause us nothing but terror and felt like the hammer of god hitting down upon us! After that we were charged by Yankee infantry lead by their officers with their kilijs in the flashing in the sun blinding everyone facing us on that hot day. And the Yankee charge was followed by a loud yell of something strange but likely a insults, they screaming at us through sound of guns screaming 'Dalyarak' with no rest in their mad yells. When the fight was over and we were force to raise the white flag of our defeat towards them, we smell something that we nearly forgotten was food. We found a small strange wagon that clearly cooking of something but no not what it was, we came closer to this wagon with this large hairy waisted man saying 'Kebabıma gel' with a warm yet uncomfortable smile upon his face. After the meals which I must had admit was oddly joyful and filling we granted means to finally clean ourselves and told to go their encampment they were besieging us from to go their tents. Upon which I know not why it was showing signs of steam coming up from some of them, we were finally meant with these largely same gentlemen as the one who given us our first meals but for some odd reason near be a naked almost before us! One of those strange beast of men look to me in a odd way of speech that I think he said 'You come massage' as I was taken to near naked state as he and with strong force clean my person in a manner both put me in a mix of terror and ease. I found myself shortly after that finally witness the general in command of this here Yankee army that fought us, it was no more than General Utku Soner Galip upon his horse looking down from open his mount and gave me a stare that will last with me until my final days."

I got a very cheap union kepi in colonial williamsburg and it is made with very terrible materials, alot of people would like to take the cheap route and buy union “costumes” but my advice for union reenactors spend the money to get high quality uniforms its expensive but it pays off.

He mentions getting the clothes from Wambaugh & White & sewing them together with their garment kits Dirty Billy is also mentioned for the cap, though Goober Grabbed and Kepi Nation are also good options

what the others said. A good example is getting a rubberized blanket (essentially a small canvas tarp that is tarred or rubber coated on one side) A nice quality one form Europe or the US will work perfectly in all intended weather for a long active life. Meanwhile some cheap ones have a texture like when you find really an old rubber toy behind the couch. that sticky goopy catch all the lint and grass kind of texture. same with uniforms losing stitching prematurely... My reenactments actually banned guns from some countries like Pakistan because other places had incidents where they exploded or shot metal fragments due to bad quality steel. Bayonets people often care less for, but ive seen my fair share of L-shaped India bayonets when someone takes a hit on the field.

@@ottoman_reenactor_ct Are you not going to give me a legitimate answer about my pants? I don't understand this animosity towards me. It is smart to have ark collections in other countries in case war or natural disaster happens to destroy an important museum collection. Who's to say the Hisart or Harbiye museums won't have an electrical fire or earthquake consume them in the future? I don't see what is wrong with having original Ottoman pieces in a well-funded, air-controlled American museum where they will be preserved for generations to come.
