Small correction: Batswana don't call it lobola. That's isiZulu. We call it magadi. Same thing different word, only because it's a different language ❤🎉🎉

They don't mean sniffing coke Fam😂but it's actually a play showing that after having babies you grow old and become a grandmother....in our culture most old grannies usually sniff/smoke Snuff intshu (tobacco leaves used for smoking via nostrils)

Hi guys, i enjoy watching your reaction content on Africa you have come a long way and have learned a lot about Africa and my country South Africa 🇿🇦 the women in blue are from the groom's family or tribe and they are mainly there to show or teach the bride on what is expected of her when she joins her husband's family, the baby gesture symbolizes child bearing and the sniffing gesture symbolizes tobacco for elders also the sweeping gesture for chores etc, the people wearing regular clothes are probably from the bride's family and neighbors and also those who are invited to the celebration, when the groom arrives it symbolizes the acceptance and that he is now permitted to enter the bride's family compound and is recognized as a "son in law". The songs also carry a message like when they are singing facing the door they are asking for the bride to come out so they can see her because she is now fully their "daughter in law", after all the traditional ceremonies are done the couple can now decide if they want to do a western wedding (depending if they have the budget for it) if not the traditional wedding is also recognized as lawful in South Africa. I can't wait to see you guys landing on South African soil 💞

Thank you for explaining to us, Sisi. We find the more things are the same amongst the tribes, the more they are different. That’s the beauty of learning! Soon, soon!❤️

I swear I love the confusion and how yol try make sense of everything but you'd find that not all is as deep as you see it.😄. Dion gets alot of things for some weird reason, which is not to say CeeCee you don't get stuff but you are more connected to African'ess on a more spiritual plane if that makes sense

The first part of the video happened at the brides house. The part with the men sitting in the house, the bride has been taken to the grooms house and she is being welcomed. The women singing and wearing blue are the grooms representatives. Setswana weedings depend on the tribe youre married into. The negotiations are done in private, theyre rarely shown on camera.

Wow this reminds me of my cousin's wedding 2 years back. We took her to her in-laws and they were wearing this and singing the songs. The first song when they go in basically says '' Please tell the uncles that the nephew is getting married''. It's a beautiful song. Setswana wedding are beautiful. Love this reaction Fam ❤

As a person of Tswana descent with not much exposure to my culture I've learned a lot. Also you asked why the grooms family isn't in attire I don't know much but usually is SA people of different tribes get married so its probably because they are giving the bride away to the grooms family rather than the other way around so but like I said I don't know much either. I think the people that weren't wearing attire might be guests not necessarily invited. the nose sniffing gesture is a portrayal of old age as a lot of grannies maybe grandpas too sniff Motsoko/Snurf

The first scenes of the video shows what we call PATLO( The traditional wedding) theres one for men and women respectively usually the men meet around 5 am at the KGOTLA where the groom will be given what is expected of him as a HUSBAND and a married man in his household and the community at large( there are roles that are only meant for married men such as sitting in for MAGADI(lobola) negotiations)...after they are done thats when now the women can start their session(the scenes where they were acting) where the bride also will be told what is expected of her as a WIFE and a married woman in her household and the community at large(also there are roles that are only meant for a married woman) .... The second part of the video is what we call KGOROSO, so now the WIFE's family will now be officially handing her over to the HUSBAND's family. NB:That checked blanket(shawl) is only worn by married women and married men put on a coat

First and foremost I would to thank you family for this awesome reaction video…usually the uncles from both the groom and brides families come together and negotiate how much is required from the grooms family in exchange for the bride…once that part is finalised than the wedding proceedings can begin…usually the negotiations are done in the early hours of the morning so that the gift sharing can also be done in the same day before the bride Is handed over to the grooms family.

You are right. The bride and groom and told their roles in marriage. The roles can be playfully demonstrated on the occasion of the payment of the 'magadi' in Botswana. These roles are passed on my by married men and women. In effect, they are also welcoming the couple into the married people club.

It might be slightly confusing seeing Batswana of South Africa🇿🇦 and Batswana from Botswana 🇧🇼 commenting but same culture different regions. A little history reveals we used to be in one region only extended due to wars with Colonial forces.

8:20 They are officially there to collecting the bride after the value of who & what the bride is, is paid, so in essence the family of the groom was there to state all the T's & C's of the contract

After lobola has been finalized. We do gifting ceremony, where the brides family was seen dramatist the duties the bride is expected to perform at the in laws. She is also given laws or guidance on how to represent the family at the in laws. Once that is done. The groom is coming with his people then the gifting ceremony starts. The grooms family gifts the bride's family then the following day the bride is taken to the groom's family for an official handover. Then it's the bride's family's turn to gift the grooms family. One that is done, then they can do a western wedding. It can be done after a month or a week depends on your financial status.

The first part is at the brides family, the grooms family came to pay the bride price(magadi) then we celebrate. Normally everyone wearing a blanket is married woman, everyone wearing normal clothes is not single. The second part of the video the brides family take the newly wed woman to her inlaws to get dressed in his tribes attire.

Dion is right. When she was brought in she wore her own regalia. But went into the house to be dressed like the rest of wives in the groom's family. Now she's dressed like them and she welcomed as a part of the groom's family. She's officially a part of them. And the lady escorting her out is her relative, handing her over.

The sniff ain't what you think it is but it's whats called traditional tobacco which some people intake through the nose. Not everyone does this but some people do it, especially people whom are or rather have a higher spiritual connection especially with the underground gang/ancestors/Amadlozi.
