American Couple Reacts: Chatsworth House Tour! England's Grand House & Estate! FIRST TIME REACTION! We have seen some incredible houses in the United Kingdom. Is Chatsworth House in Derbyshire the finest of them all? Chosen several times as Britain's favorite country house, it is a Grade I listed property from the 17th century, altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. Chatsworth House is a stately home in the Derbyshire Dales, 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north-east of Bakewell and 9 miles (14 km) west of Chesterfield, England. The seat of the Duke of Devonshire, it has belonged to the Cavendish family since 1549. It stands on the east bank of the River Derwent, across from hills between the Derwent and Wye valleys, amid parkland backed by wooded hills that rise to heather moorland. The house holds major collections of paintings, furniture, Old Master drawings, neoclassical sculptures and books. Join us as we take a look at this incredible house, grounds and surrounding area! I am from NZ, currently live in England (Salford) Chatsworth was the first stately home I ever visited and even walking through the grounds you can feel the effect of centuries of planned landscaping and gardening. Inside was literally mindblowing. I was vey quickly overwhelmed by the amount of historical detritus collected by a family who has lived here for centuries. On back staircase, dimly lit by a bare bulb, I found a 500 year old Tintoretto painting - not behind glass or velvet rope. There were hundreds of visitors but it was so big I was alone most of the time. At one point I sat down in an empty corridor to rest. It was only after i got up that I realised I had been sitting on King George IIIs coronation throne. (Why was it here?) Oh, this bedroom was where the Duke of. Wellington slept? Oh, this is a 5000 year old Egyptian memory stele? Coming from a country where the very oldest buildings were barely 150 years old, Chatsworth was like a dream.

Michael Nolan. The coronation THRONE would not be at Chatsworth. It is very ancient and use only for the actual crowning of the monarch. It is more likely to be another chair used at George III’s Coronation…

I went to Bible College just nearby and used to walk in the grounds. In the early 80’s 4 of us were walking in the grounds and we came across 2 ladies with dogs we stopped to pass the time of day, imagine our surprise to realise it was the Duchess of Devonshire (Debo one of the Mitford girls) and the Queen, we were blown away, the Queen used to visit occasionally. We were truly blessed.

I once took my mum to Chatsworth, while we were walking round the gardens she told me to watch for someone coming and then proceeded to bend down and steal some seed pods from a pretty flowering plant in the border.😂 When I told her off she said "if the Duke wants to come and steal some of the seed pods from my garden he's more than welcome. 😂 Every spring she would nudge me and tell me her Chatsworth plant was flowering. The house is truly stunning up close, and I really do hope you both get to visit one day.

I did it with my kids too, and can't wait to do it with my Granddaughter as.

My dad was a semi-professional kids entertainer and did the Chatsworth House staff Christmas Party for years. Up to the age of about 10, I was his "stooge" and remember a few great Christmas days there. I know I met the Duke and Duchess (they gave me a present even though Dad did not work for them) but I do not really remember them. My dad said they were lovely, down to earth people with no poncy airs and graces. I live about 20 miles from Chatsworth and spend some happy summers days walking round the grounds and house in my own little "Christmas Party" dream world remembering my dad and the fun we had in that great house. Allegedly, the present Duchess spends a lot of time in the gardens "pottering about", I wonder how many of us have had a pleasant chat with a female gardener without realising we were actually talking to Her Grace!!!

Here's a funny tale about my first visit to Chatsworth House: As an autistic child, my grasp of language was worse back then. In about 1971, my parents told us we were going to visit a stately home (the general term for houses like this that are open to the public). In my ten-year-old, autistic mind, I got this mixed up with 'old people's home'. It didn't help that I had recently visited elderly relatives in a place with 'House' in its title. So I thought to myself, 'Why are they making such a big deal about visiting an old people's home?' Are we going to be walking around just looking at old people?' Needless to say, when we got there, my mind was blown away by what Chatsworth House actually turned out to be

The other wonderful thing about Britain's stately homes is that apart from being open for visitors, they also stage all sorts of outdoor public events, especially during the summer. It is so special to visit on a long summer evening with a picnic and watch a concert. Close to us is Berkeley Castle, one of the oldest continually inhabited castles in the country. We saw a play of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' in the wooded moat, on the 420'th anniversary of the play's creation. We only found out afterwards that in fact the play had been written especially for the wedding of one of the Berkeley family, and was first shown in the exact spot where we saw it 420 years later. Pretty cool.

I know I commented in your video on Eyam that I went on a school trip to Chatsworth House then onto Eyam. I was around 7 or 8 years old at the time and fell in love with Chatsworth and remember clearly the step fountain and all the beautiful grounds as well as the house. I've still got my black and white photos I took of the day some 50 years ago, including a horse and it's foal that were grazing in the grounds. I am surprised she didn't show the Violin and Bow painting which is known as a Trompe l'oeil, an illusion created to make the violin look like it is hanging from the door that was painted around 1723. It took me a few years or more before I returned to visit Chatsworth and was still as in love with the place. If you ever get the chance to go Natasha and Debbie please go, it truly is a beautiful place to visit and explore.

When I lived in Sheffield, Chatsworth was just a short drive away and I always found it to be a popular place for a visit during the warm months. Local people appreciate the opportunity to eat a picnic on the giant lawns and don't abuse the Duke's and Duchess's hospitality by leaving litter. Farm animals wander around the estate, checking out the visitors and posing for pictures, and there is a herd of deer running around the estate too. Of course the house itself is spectacular as this video shows.

It's 30 minutes from where I live so I know it very well. Chatsworth is magnificent, she didn't show many of the rooms, there are so many more that are open for the public. In the warm weather the cascade is filled with children, (of all ages!) all paddling and playing, and the thing which will make it perfect for you two lovely ladies, is that dogs are welcome into the gardens. Yes at Christmas each year the house is decorated beautifully, it's a different theme each year. You would love it!

Its actually lovely to see our Stately Homes and villages through fresh eyes. When I was a child, we visited all the local stately homes with the school on Environmental Studies, which in turn led to me visiting as many as I could, introducing my children to them as a parent. Wherever I go in the country, I try to visit a fresh place. The villages are different because we see them all the time, either driving through or small villages becoming incorporated into towns and cities, although they still keep their charm. Lovely video yet again ladies, thank you 😊

9 minutes and 20 seconds into this reaction video look through the open door and you can see a violin hanging on the back of another door. This violin and door looks real but it is in fact painted on the wall in the room next door, just another example of the quality of the artwork at Chatsworth. When you visit England this is THE stately home to visit. It is as described "the finest country house in England" closely followed by Blenhiem Palace home of the dukes of Marlbourough (Winston Chuchill's family). Sir Winston is laid to rest in the local village churchyard at Bladon.

Great to see you enjoy Chatsworth where my sister works. A must read is the story of the late Dowager Duchess, Deborah Mitford, one of the "Mitford girls". As a child I remember sitting with her on a bale of straw watching a pony show, and my family would visit the gardens where she would be out with a basket collecting some eggs. You may have spotted the gilt paint in the window frames which gives the Windows a golden glow in the afternoons. What was missing from the video was the Emperor Fountain which at one-time reached 300 feet and is gravity powered, a marvel of engineering. The Chatsworth Calendar is full of amazing events including the international horse trials, Country Fair, Royal Horticultural Society Flower show, Christmas Market and especially when the houses length see the Christmas decorations. The treasures throughout the house are breathtaking.

I live an hour away in Nottingham. This is worth the money to go round. We usually just go around the grounds. I was once looking at a portrait of Henry VIII when an American visitor said very loudly "wow is he real .. l thought he was a myth a legend' ., we politely suppressed our giggles😂 . But she did provide me with an anecdote that l've told forever!! It was pre internet and obviously she couldn't educate herself like you lovely ladies! Chatsworth was also used in the film 'The Duchess' .. a true story also with Keira Knightly.

When my kids were small we were having a picnic at the side of the Cascade when an older gentleman wearing Speedos walked up the steps of the Cascade. He got to the top and sat down in the pool, causing some muttering as kids were playing there. Whispers abounded til we heard the kids were OK, the late Duke was just escaping the hot weather and wanted to play with the families enjoying his property. You guys need to visit/stay in Derbyshire and go to the Blue John mines which aren't too far from Chatsworth which has some beautiful vases and ornaments made from this rare form of fluorite. There are loads of shops in the neighbouring villages which sell Blue John in jewellery and maybe some small ornaments but it's not cheap. Love these vids highlighting our glorious landscapes and estates, houses etc. Thanks, girls ❤❤❤❤❤

I usually hit the "like" when I start any of your videos. Some channels just do that. You hit "like" because you know it's going be good; whatever you have posted it's going to be a 'like' or I wouldn't have subscribed to it. There are surprisingly few that fit in that category, though. Which I find a bit surprising. Given how much time I spend online looking at and for such things. But you two definitely deserve a like, and I enjoy every single one of your videos. And you are both beautiful, BTW. I'll just ignore the comments at the start.

Hi Natasha & Debbie just watched your reaction to Chatsworth house which my wife and I visited for the first time in August and as you surmise it blows you away, and yes it dose have winter activities including a light walk in the garden. Also while on holiday in Cambridge this year we visited the only American war cemetery in the UK, worth checking out. It has final resting place of over 3000 American heroes and a memorial wall with the names of over 2000 missing in action personnel including great band leader Glen Miller. P.S. love the show and am subscribed, also one for you Debbie I am ex R.A.F. having served 22 years, going back to your Red Flag video I was at 4 red flags as ground crew between 1992 & 2000. Keep up the great videos. Your fan Steven Hall North Yorkshire.

What I love about Chatsworth is that, although it's been handed down from Duke to Duke, the three people who have been most influential in its history are women. Bess of Hardwick who effectively created it, Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire who was so very influencial in England in the 18th century and Deborah (Debo), Duchess of Devonshire, who took on Chatsworth after her marriage to Andrew Cavendish, a younger son, who never expected to inherit the title. I believe his older brother was killed in WW2. It was in a poor state of repair and there was no money to put it right. Fortunately, Debo, youngest of the Mitford sisters, had what it took to turn the situation around and bring the estate back to what it is now. I live about an hour and a half away from Chatsworth and have visited several times. I love it and regret that I never saw Debo Devonshire there when she was alive - she used to wander around and chat to people. Chatsworth is an amazing place and the nearby Hardwick Hall, where Bess lived whilst she was having Chatsworth built is also a fascinating place. She was an incredible woman!

Girls. We have so many such houses in the UK that it is hard to miss them. Here it's as if one Estate lies next to another, each with it's own great house at the core. This is besides the castles, churches, monastic ruins everywhere. We are so blessed. Such places are regularly busy with visitors, whenever they are open. At the moment Castle Howard, & others are beginning their Christmas 🎄 displays, which are always spectacular.

I really really enjoy your reactions to our beautiful country... however ther is some one in the house doesn't !!! We rescued a parrot whose owners sadly died ...he was a visitor here when his owners went on holiday . Now every time he hears Natasha's voice ...he goes crazy , turns up his volume , runs back and forth along his perches ! When I say loud ...I mean loud ! Neighbours call often checking all is okay !! He is now banished to the office whilst I catch up with you both ! Keep doing what you are doing !!

The hubby and I visit chatsworth often. Especially at Christmas time. It’s rather magical. The Christmas market is fun. We have a caravan (trailer US). There is a Caravan Club site on the grounds of Chatsworth. Situated a short walk from the house and nearby village with a couple of great pubs for a pint and British grub. Great for walking our dog. You should definitely visit ladies should you visit the north of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇬🇧

Since retiring I’ve been volunteering, first at Hardwick Hall the home of Bess of Hardwick who built Chatsworth. Now I’m volunteering at Brodsworth Hall near Doncaster and about to start at Wentworth Woodhouse Rotherham. I speak to visitors and present the history and provide security against people who may damage or steal (but nothing like this has ever happened whilst I’ve been on duty). These properties keep bored retired people like me active and socialising with other volunteers. English Heritage and The National Trust provide us with a comfy room with tea and coffee etc. To sit and chat with friends during break times keeps us old people sane. Then we get to care for some amazing antiques.

I have visited Chatsworth a couple of times. Its around 2 hours from me. Last time we went, my Mum spoke to a guy who was looking after one of the Dining rooms and she commented how lucky he was to work there,, He said he had been there over 25 years and still hasn't seen every room. It really is as spectacular as it looks.

I love about an hour from Chatsworth, as I child we lived closer. It was one of my mum favourite places and is one of mine.. My ex hubby's cousin was head chef for the Duke and Duchess in the 90's, allowing us a chance to visit the staff lodgings in the house. Simply to drive through the Estate is stunning but my favourite time ti visit is coming up. Next week we visit for the first of a 4 week outdoor Chatsworth Christmas market. A few yrs ago and 2 days after mum died, my family scooped me up and took me to the Chatsworth Christmas market. A bitter sweet day because it seemed like we could feel her. Chatsworth means a great deal to many. Only 4 or so moles away is the most stunning house called Hadden Hall. Which is highly recommended. Hadden Hall is older than Chatsworth and used in many movies. The Princess Bride was filmed there. The 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice is by far the best version,.I hope you manage to see it.

If you go to Derbyshire when you come, and visit Bakewell, try the Bakewell Pudding, not the Bakewell Tart. It’s absolutely gorgeous, with custard or cream, but they will give you both if asked, and that’s best.

I live just 5 minutes drive from Grimsthorpe castle in South Lincolnshire and twenty minutes drive from Burghley House stateley home and gardens also in South Lincolnshire which is in Eastern England. Although I drive past them all the time and admire there beauty in passing I have never actually visited either of them. I think we sometimes just take these things for granted.

It's a 40-minute drive from where my parents live. I've visited a couple of times since I was younger with my parents. Now, I live quite far away in Wales and recently went back with my boyfriend. It's still as stunning and gorgeous as I remember it. While walking around, we were watching your video, serving as a free audio guide tour to learn more about the estate. Despite our busy lives, I guess we're lucky to have estates like this in the country to destress and relax. ❤

And the Duke, Duchess and Dowager Duchess of Devonshire (RIP) are/was some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The Duke and Duchess often meet visitors touring the stately home just for a chat and the Duchess is often found at the famous farm shop. They are both 'hands on' with the running of the estate that has become a highly successful business.

40 hours to reset the table consists of polishing the table to retain its sheen, washing and drying the table cloths and napkins, washing and drying the chairs, clean-polish and replce candles in the candelabras, clean polish each individual piece of cutlery and plates etc, glass, cup goblet clean. After everyone is back in place each piece is studied and inspected.

The BBC serialised Pride and Prejudice is by far the best as it is closest to the book, giving full time without missing parts, as a feature film does, of which there have been several versions. I am sure it is obtainable in America now. It is the one with Colin Firth as Mr.Darcy.

We live up the road . God it's soo beautiful ❤️ you should see it at Christmas...it's all trimmed up inside and out. They usually do theme each year at Christmas such as Dickens as so forth.. they also do Christmas Markets on run up to the festive period with carols outside,it is truly magical ❤we don't take it for granted.. although we do have many Stately Houses ..it's getting to see them all..there's so many, but Chatsworth is up there! We always have a picnic every year at the side of the cascade waterfall...it's so peaceful and relaxing..in season though everyone is in the water. So much fun. ❤People also go fresh water swimming most Sundays in the River at the bottom of the house..❤ most people visit here all the time. It's got restaurants, ice cream parlour.. visitor shop.. Chatsworth farm shop on the Estate where you can buy the produce off the land. It's totally Amazing!

I live about half an hour from Chatsworth. We often go for walks on the estate, particularly in winter when it's less busy. However, having lived close by for 64 years, I've only ever been round the house and gardens twice😂 It's always best to avoid at weekends and bank holiday also check to see if any events are going off as you may have to pre book. What she missed is the small farm zoo a must-see with children. Just a couple miles is the Chatsworth farm shop, which sells delicious food, most of which is produced on the estate. There is also a cafe that has to have one the most amazing views of any eatery anywhere

As you how often we visit from the age of 8 when I first got interest in history. My nan would take me all over the country in my summer holidays. To all the stately homes and gardens, museums, places of interest and historic significance. I stopped at about 15 years old. Now 48 years old. I do go to all the places I once visited I pick a couple to visit each year. As I'm now disabled it takes alot more out of me and preparation. I do live in a town that has alot of history Northampton and do travel my county every year through out the year on my good days. I value the history of my whole country so try to visit these places as often as possible.

Chatsworth is maybe 30 minutes from where I live & it's well worth spending a day there. You may also like Hardwich Hall (one of the homes of Bess of Hardwick mentioned in this video with regards to Mary, Queen of Scots), Hadden Hall (films shot there are The Princess Bride, The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe & The Lady & the Highwayman to name but a few. Haddon Hall hasn't been touched in centuries, so it's like stepping back into the 1600's) & Keddlestone Hall.... the Peacock dress worn by Lady Curzon when her husband was Viceroy of India, is particularly stunning & worth seeing. All the aforementioned houses are in Derbyshire. Wentworth Castle & Wentworth Woodhouse in South Yorks which is currently being renovated are also worth taking a look at. I love Pride & Prej, Emma, Sense & Sensibility & Persuasion, as well as Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford & the Barchester Chronicle's by Anthony Trollope. Thanks for sharing your reaction to one of our national treasures ladies. I can honestly say that one never tires of visiting Chatsworth, it's not a place easily forgotten 🌺

I and my partner visited Chatsworth last year on the eay back from a holiday in Yorkshire. It is impressive, beautiful and stunning from a distance. The interior is amazing and the painted ceilings are beautiful. Even the grounds are beautiful and all set against the hills of the Peak District. The waterfall and lake is situated in such a way, that it looks like the house is floating above the lake. We are so blessed in the UK and especially England, with all these beautiful buildings and the history thst goes with it. We really do not at times appreciate what we have abd and sometimes become quite complacement about our history. We are truly lucky.
